If youre gonna plant/grow your best bet is to buy organic seeds, that way you can always harvest the seeds from your plants and grow more.

Very true! In addition, grow in buckets for space reasons. I did this other video on that topic. "20 Foods Preppers Can Grow In Buckets Year Round" ruclips.net/video/q4zpkZnAjZk/видео.html

@@Empath79 Agreed! I lived through the 2000 internet bubble, the 2008 financial crisis and of course the "c" word from 4 years ago. As I grow older, I realize I need to be as self-sufficient as possible. This pretty much prompted me to start the channel. In addition, I learn so much from the research of the videos and the feedback from the community.

To put vegetables in your long-term (20 years) food storage and do so at low cost, you will need a food dehydrator. Buy the pillow-size bags of frozen vegetables from Costco, Sam's Club, Smart & Final or any other source for food that is sold to restaurants. Load up each dehydrator rack with a layer of frozen veggies, place the racks in the dehydrator and let them set for one or two hours until the vegetables are completely thawed. When the veggies are thawed, start the dehydrator following the instructions in the manual that came with the machine for heat level and time. When the veggies are shrunken, hard and crispy, they are done. Now package them in heat-sealed Mylar bags along with an oxygen absorber in each bag. Use some masking tape and a Sharpie marker to label each bag so you will know the contents and the date packaged. Now store the Myar bags in plastic buckets or totes with tight-fitting lids or in sealed cardboard boxes so the Mylar does not get punctured.
Unlike canned veggies, these dehydrated veggies will not be harmed by freezing temperatures, you do not have the added expense of rotating/replacing every few years, they take up much less storage space and are lightweight, so they are easy to move if you have to evacuate. To use some dehydrated veggies, put some in a bowl (about a third of what you would use if you were using fresh or frozen veggies), cover with freshly boiled water and let steep until rehydrated or just drop the dry veggies in to a pot of simmering homemade soup or sauce and cook until rehydrated. My favorite frozen veggies to dehydrate are mixed peas and carrots, green beans, whole kernel corn and chopped broccoli. I recommend against trying to dehydrate diced raw onions because they will stink up your house. Just buy the dried onion flakes in the large plastic canisters from a wholesale club and repackage in Mylar along with oxygen absorbers.
