St Petersburg is truly a beautiful city. I had a chance to visit it 10 years ago. From the video it seems even more magical and beautiful this time of the year. I had a chance years ago to visit Kharkov and Kiev between Dec 24 and Jan 7. It was also very beautiful and magical as St. Petersburg is depicted in the video. Now they face cold and darkness without all the magical light and decorations. Fellow family members are no longer at the New Year’s Eve dinner table if they are even able to have something for dinner. I hope humanity does not loose sight of this.

Christmas has never been a favorite for me, This year, I'll be all alone, after 49 years with the same woman I married when she was 16. I'm 74 now, and not in good health, because I spent the last 13 years taking care of my wife, 24/7, since she had her 1st stroke. But, I kept my promise to her and held her hand as she closed her eyes and vacated her body. Now I need someone to take care of me. LOL MERRY CHRISTMAS TO YOU AND YOURS.

And I already lost 3 years in my life with COVID
Merry Christmas anyway..lot of folks have it very difficult this time of year, sicknesses, politics issues all over the planet etc.. Christmas is the time of year my life caved in on me yrs ago....so it's not easy., but seeing my family's happiness along with the children...then I'm good. Bless you all out there. Pray for those in great difficulties

Being brought up Jewish and having a dad whose Birthday was December 25, Christmas passed me by as a kid. But Christmas in cold climates, like Saint Petersburg, is magical. The snow, ice skating, fairs, mulled wine etc. Like living on your own movie set.
I was out walking in the city center after meeting friends at the Grand Hotel Europe for snacks and thick hot chocolate mixed with rum. It was really good and they hotel always has great decorations. After my friends left I walked around the city and although the decorations are beautiful, almost all the snow was gone except on some grassy parks. Just a few days ago the snow really added a special touch. I had been ill for a week so had not gone to the many events the city has and had not accepted any firm plans for New Years but while walking met two young ladies who I knew very briefly, we go to the same jazz club, and agreed for a party plan for new years. That is so typcial of St Petersburg and Russia in general, anyone can be friends. These girls are late 20s and I am much older but very active. I am a native of California but moved to Russia 24 years ago after a successful career in the music production industry, gave everything away and arrived in St Petersburg in January 2000. It is hard to compare but without a doubt Russia is easier to have a good life in, and have very low stress and 2 orders of magnitude more cultured and friendlier. I have been in 92 countries and when I wanted a better freer life there was St Petersburg on the top of my very short list of placed that suited me best. So now I am so spoiled but the quality of life and quality of friendships, I really can't live in the US again or in Europe.

Даже здесь малоизвестно, что Рождество стало официальным праздником в Шотландии только в 1958 году, но в Англии оно было «праздником общего права» с незапамятных времен (по-видимому)! Утром люди шли на работу. Рождество - это занятие по генерированию денег для компаний и предприятий. Понятно. Новый год - время смотреть вперед и быть оптимистом без каких-либо религиозных осложнений. Присоединиться может каждый. Так что в следующем году скажите всем, что вы «не устраиваете» Рождество и просто наслаждаетесь огнями и украшениями в одном из лучших мест для Рождества в мире. Thanks for sharing the beautiful Christmas and holiday lights, all were just wonderful. The Christian manger scene was impressive...as we all share the same Savior. After all, it's the "reason for the season". The brightly decorated city is impressive and gives one a reason for "hope", as we all pray for an end to the current madness. That would brighten all of our spirits!

The Russian authorities certainly understand the psychology of bread and circuses, and know how to reflect thoughts away from the anxiety of a special military operation taking place in the name of the same authorities who support the war. Residents of the sleeping districts of the city will love it. The lights and trees do all look magnificent, and festive. They make me miss the city where my St Petersburg-born wife and I have a family apartment, but however attractive it may look, and however much I miss my family and friends, I will not be returning to St Petersburg until the war is over and peace has returned

Russia has more and more honest trade pacts with the world while being continuously sanctioned since 2004 with 32,000 sanctions. But Russia is not in need of any trade or dealing with the US because Russia has learned to never believe anything said or signed by the US, which has violated every agreement it ever signed. You have strong opinions because you are very susceptible to propaganda.
I do understand you, even though I'm living in Vienna 🇦🇹 It's the most stressful season, everyone is about partying & not about slowing down & becoming silent towards the end of the year. It's such a relief when Christmas is over - & btw, people are not celebrating Christmas, they are celebrating the economy. The Christmas lights and decor at the Palace was beautiful. In ways, I agree with you. The "Christ - Mas" season was suppose to celebrate the arrival of Christ filled with spiritual peace, hope , and rest. But instead the season seems to have become overly commercialized with materialism and unrest (i.e. filled with stress and anxiousness) instead. Inspite of all this, the True Spirit for the season is still able to shine through and I am glad that you were able to enjoy it in St. Pete and share it with us. You need to be around your nieces more often during this time of year, so that the excitement and grandeur comes alive in you. If your nieces participate in either a Christmas play or choir, you should attend. Christmas hasn't changed, only you have.

My wife and I came to St Petersburg in 2008 on a cruise ship. Not an ideal way to see the city but I enjoyed it. We went to some of the areas in the video. Why we (US) can not work with the Russians is hard to understand. I am retired navy from the Cold War era and always hoped our 2 nations would live in peace after that long struggle was settled. I will not give up on that dream.

I think it's the pressure one has to do the gift giving not necessarily how much it costs, the monetary value is just an added stressor. We have the whole year to give any loved one gifts. The pressure of that one day being the designated day to do so is what I don't like. I feel the same about all other holidays that encourage it. It's a deep rabbit hole, actually not that deep it's called commercialism and most us partake in it willingly, even though we can choose not to😁
