I think the bet bits were actually the merge kills at places like 5:25 - or maybe that's just because I have so much trouble with them lol, but they seem so hard to do!

For cross splits, you'll have to be able to visualize each of your cell's trajectory, and also the factors of distance and rebound. Once you get used to it you'll be able to exploit cross split itself to be used in many different situations. Anyways like what WWS369 mentioned, its important that the cursor needs to be in between two cells, but put it at the back of the front cell; as long as its below the half of the cell nearer to the back cell, it will gain effectivity. Though to keep in mind, cross splits don't work well when you're really big, so you'll have to be careful when chosing to do it.
