- These Cupboards are made from Q-Mark ply & Beech, the shelves are made from pine to keep the price down, the ply was cut with a Makita 36v plunge track saw, put together with drywall screws, a Dewalt biscuit jointer & a Milwaukee M18FNCS18GS-0X M18 FUEL 18v Narrow Crow Stapler,
The face frame & doors are put together with a Festool DF700 Domino, the doors are shaker style with plywood panels hung on Hettich soft close cabinet hinges, the mounting holes cut with a 35mm bit in a Makita router ,
The tops are 30mm Medite MR MDF,
The shelves are 30mm thick pine, housed in grooves in the uprights to help stop warping & bending,
It will all be painted the same colour as the fire breast.

Nice to see the details. I learn something from most if not all of your videos. Keep them coming!
Thanks Jim, yep i tried to keep these to minimum but also keep enough in to show what really goes into making some thing like this 👍
Joinery gold. Thanx again pal.🎖

Shows you don’t need a huge workshop to do quality work
Always informative your videos Gid

Thanks David, i hope they are 👍 Yep i need to move some rubbish but i just about make it work, if i had a bigger place i'd just fil it with crap 🤦♂️😂
holy moly Gid!!! Five videos, we're spoilt !! You must have worked through 'til breakfast...either way that's this evening taken care of which is great. It's good to see you at it again, always looking forward to seeing what you're going to share next, I love it.
Thanks John appreciated 👍 Had these to do for a few days so just sat down n got em done over a few nights, there's more to come but i thought 2hrs was enough for the moment 😁👍

Thanks Rob, I'm glad you do & you're very welcome 👍
Like some other viewer commented. I have pigged out and watched them all after each other. Entertaining and lots to learn in each episode. A friend has just asked me to do exactly the same job, so I have taken yours as a dry run for me 😉😉
Thanks 👍 Good, i hope it helps, i seem to do them exactly the same each time with a very slight difference to each 🤯🤦♂️🤷♂️😂 best of luck with yours 👍
@@Gidjoiner And just 'Paid' for the hints and tips. Paypal would not let me do it last night
Thankyou very much Peter, that's really appreciated, I hope you got your monies worth 👍😊 There's quite a few pics of alsorts on my FB page if you haven't seen them, i used to use Pine in a lot of them, mainly to keep the cost down but the shrinkage n warping isn't worth the cheaper price in the long run so i don't make doors with it anymore, so ignore that bit 👍 facebook.com/gid.joiner/photos_albums
Great video, thanks
Glad you liked it, thanks Michael 👍
great vids, good seeing you back. not my thing, as i do not have any of those machines to build this, but good to watch, learn.
Thanks 👍 Yeah a little hard without the machines, esp with the sawn Beech planing it to size, but i'm glad you still enjoy the vids 👍
Great to have you back Gid! Can I ask why you tend to use biscuit jointer over domino for these?
Hi n thanks, appreciated 👍 the domino , DF700, is too big to handle, min sized cutter for the 700 is 8mm, 5-6mm would be better for 18mm board, (I know there's an adaptor to take smaller cutters but i'm not getting that) the 700 domino depth only goes to 10mm centres so no good for 18mm board that ideally would have 9mm centre, the DF500 would do 18mm with a 5-6mm domino but i don't have that, biscuits are more readily available for me, i can just nip to Screwfix n get 100, they're also wider so give more like a partial T&G type fix rather than a dowel type, if that makes sense, I think even if i had the DF500 i would still use the biscuit jointer for things like this, One day i'll get a DF500, each tool has it's place so we'll see but at the moment i think the biscuit jointer does a v good job, i don't see any reason to change it to using dominos.
I don’t have a biscuit jointer. Recon could use the same method but buy a dowelling jig and just use dowels?
Hi, just glue & pins would prob do, the biscuits are more to help align the edge more than for strength, have you got a router? www.screwfix.com/p/erbauer-biscuit-jointing-kit-47mm-4-pcs/65290
Another cracking video Gid👍 tell me this buddy if you had to do it again would you still splash out on the Feestool mitre saw ? Was it really worth that much extra ??
Thanks David, glad you liked it 👍 I think i would buy it again but it is over rated & a bit more expensive than it deserves, it does cut super accurate, but beyond that there are problems, there's stories of them burning out, the air vent for the motor is on top, dust gets in easily & i do get the occasional spark* so i blow it out regularly, i guess with rough builders using them more often they're going to get some stick, The fence i had to put Ali tape on to stop it wobbling, & the laser line isn't great either, clogs quite quickly n in daylight i can't see it. But i don't regret buying it, If i'd saved a couple of hundred £s & bought a cheaper saw i'd always have wondered if i'd made a mistake. Similar size saws Makita n Dewalt etc are £700+ so for the extra i spent like i say i don't regret it. 👍
Looking good mate, watching this has just reminded me I need to made a new dado jig, just in the process of making a large dvd case at the moment which will require quite a lot of dados, looking forward to seeing it all come together and the install now 👌👌👌👍👍👍🇦🇺
Yeah that's what makes me laugh about some of the YT channels where they beautifully craft their jigs n store them on a little shelf with all the other jigs they'll use once every five yrs, even if you do use them often these don't last long & need to be knocked up as n when needed, that n this job reminded me my router table is completely knackered. 😒😂 Sounds like fun making that case but if all goes well it should all lock together n feel quite solid, best of luck, i'll get the rest of this job edited soon 👍👍
Very nice thus far Gid, looking forward to the install as I'm just about to start a similar project for my daughter; probably wouldn't be taking it on if I didn't have access to Guru 😉
Thanks Howard 👍 I'm glad my vids are helpful, go for it & i hope they work out well 😁👍🤸♂️
Loved the videos Gid. Just a quick question on the plywood. I did a bit of Googling to see if I could find the particular kind that looked like what you used, but wasn’t confident I managed to find it. Was it a good one side / construction grade one side spec?
Thanks Rory 👍 It's Q-Mark ply, it's WBP & most ply's do have one good face but they're not always sold or advertised as such, I buy it because it is just one step better than the cheap crap you get from the builders suppliers, as you do or don't know ply is made of alternating layers with a thin veneer on the face, that stuff from the builders merchants tends to have a very paper thin, often cracked or folded veneer, & the layers inside can have gaps in them when cut open, This Q Ply is fairy consistent throughout & has a decent clean thick veneer than can be sanded without going through it easily, I get it from here, 12mm £30+vat, 9mm £23.72+vat, & 18mm £45.43+vat. prices are changing all the time www.lawcris.co.uk/products/P1800M
@@Gidjoiner that’s great - thanks very much for that really detailed reply. Very helpful!
