Boot kilties, sometimes referred to as tongue fringes or boot tongues, are additional components found in certain types of boots such as work boots and cowboy boots. Kilties are typically fashioned from leather or a similar durable material and are strategically situated over the tongue of the boot.
Despite their aesthetic appeal, kilties are far more than mere decorative elements. They originated from a very practical purpose - that of keeping unwanted debris, dirt, or small stones from getting into the boots, especially in environments where such inconveniences are common, such as in outdoor work.
While modern boot design has significantly reduced the entry of debris into boots, kilties are still highly relevant. For individuals working in environments where small debris is a concern, such as construction sites, ranches, or outdoor workspaces, the presence of kilties can add an extra layer of protection, enhancing the overall functionality and lifespan of the boots.
Great job explaining the false tongue! I like how you make easy to understand the purpose and design!
I wear them primarily because they increase the comfort on the top of my foot.
Outstanding video, thank you! 👍
Great video. Now tell us why loggers cut their pants off at mid calf. I believe they are called " bobs"
This is so that when running through the bush there’s nothing for the twigs and sticks to get caught on tripping you up and knocking you down. if something were to get into your pant it wouldn’t have much room to get stuck and it would rip right out from under the pant leg. Last thing you want when running from a tree is to get snagged on a little branch haha I’ve gotten lucky a few times.
Thanks !
Funny coincidence, tomorrow I'm getting some 8oz leather for to make my own.
I make them 2"x12" with my 2 holes 1/2" from the edges (old school no scalloping).
Is the zig-zag front of the kiltie functional, or aesthetic?
Finally a skived false tongue
Why is it serrated?
If I order 10 inch set with my new boots will the shorter kilties come with the new boots ? I ask as I will use the 10 inch kilties as from prior experience I prefer full length as my ankles and calves are smaller than my foot
why not with the 300 ?
I will gladly give you the shitty mismatched pair that I received with my bison forefronts. One fit excellent and then things went downhill, my lace snapped and the second kiltie doesn't line up at all. Jk's qc seems to kinda sorta suck imo.
You would think that when you pay 579 dollars for a pair of boots that everything included would be flawless, but this wasn't the case with my first time experience. The boots themselves are fantastic in every way, shape and form. The fit is spot on, the bison leather is quite nice. In fact, I just ordered a 2nd pair in redwood with the composite toe, I haven't received them yet. All in all they make a nice boot, but the kilties and laces suck in my experience.
I cut the zig zag eyelashes off of my false tongue. I did not care for the look.
👉🌷💪👍👍
Wish JK would do an alternative design for these. I take them out because the teeth makes the boots look awful.
Great video
Do you make hunting boots sort of like elk trackers ?
The O.T was built for it.The dual sport design offers an exceptional balance of agility, comfort, and support, making them the perfect choice for mountain terrain.
Anyone else see the black bison kilty in the video?? Or am I just crazy and it’s their standard color. @2:35
Not sure it is bison.
@@frankgonzalez3822 99% sure the one thats in the plastic when they zoom in is shrunken bison
How to keep in place ?
Think of them like having rainbow dyed hair or drinking a Budlight.
Or think of them like something that will get 10 yrs out of your over priced boots instead of 5
I'm actually using Viberg false tongue with your boots they are what is been used on the West Coast of BC for 40 years they extend farther of the vamp . The false tongue provides protection from the laces. I've always used them in the 24 years wearing hand made loggers.
