I truly loved Athens. Been there 3 times. It's heaven for many reasons. Many reasons most people don't know, but which I have always loved that makes Athens special and unable to find elsewhere in Europe and the vast vast majority of the world. First of all Athens has lots of wonderful areas with distinct beautiful atmospheric architectural styles. Like Anafiotika, Psyrri, Plaka, Kolonaki. but Then the Monuments are incredible and Acropolis out of this world. You know. Acropolis is INside the city and it seen from every part of the city always at the top. In the evening its lit and it's grandeur affects in the most wonderful way. Also. the many other wonderful monuments are also not only incredible too, but because you see the Acropolis on the background, you have an incredible feeling of being transported to 2500 years ago as if you're right there. 2). *Then Athens city energy is unmatched in Europe. It's so vibrant, so alive, so full with atmosphere, so food intensive, so culinary, and then the sunsets of the light in Greece is in-credible. Not only that. Greece is 80% mountainous. Even in athens, it has mountains around, and hills inside the city.* Like Lycabettus. When you have sunsets or sunrises, with the mountains around, with wonderful views from the hills inside the city of the sity, and THEN the sea in front of the city with then layers of islands on the sea and layers of mountains after that, it's just an incredible thing you have in Athens you hardly have in any other city in Europe. Also Athens is not the only city in Greece like that. Many more. As no country in europe combines sea and mountains as Greece does. Thessaloniki has the sea in the front, Mountain in the back and richt side, and then the Mount Olympus rising 3000 straight meters in front of you out of the sea. These are examples of many cities views in Greece 3). We covered Athens perfect sunsets/sunrise sunlight, the mountains around, the sea in the front, the perfect views, the wonderful energy and incredible history, heavenly food, and districts in the city. But it does not end there. *No city in Europe has a national park closer to the city than Athens. The national park on Parnitha mountain lies just at the rim of Athens city.* People therefor can hike in the morning if they wanted to. Just wonderful. 4). *Then Athens has 3 more things that makes it incredible.* *Athens has the Argosaronic islands just infront of them with Hydra, Spetses, Aegina (all heavenly) just within a short ferry ride from the port and you will be transported to a whole other world.* Just watch some videos of Hydra or Spetses. *And also The cycladic islands group* are within 1-3 hours reach and you can be in countless of other heavenly island places with each own unique nature and so on. Pure heaven. And that is absolutely something that makes Athens also incredible. To be able to be in pure island tranquility like you have in Greece. 5). And lastly, as mentioned before Greece has 80% mountains and heavenly landscapes. You can visit big mountain ranges in the Pindus mountains, Mount Parnassos, mount Giona, Mount Vardousia and so on within 1-2 hours drive and also the mountains on the Peloponnese like mount Kyllini and Mount Aroania among many other mountains. Or even mount Dirfi in Evia island. just 1 hour drive.* So many mountains and mountain ranges in every direction all easy accessible. 6). And *Athens has it's own sea riviera* which is truly wonderful, with wonderful seas and vibrancy around. *In conclusion:* *These things are in total what makes Athens heaven. the city is full with beauty, culture, history, monuments, museums, and foodies paradise. It has nature and mountains, sea and islands around combined with perfect climate and radiant sunlight making up for breahtaking views. Then islands just within easy reach of Athens, their own seafront riviera, the hiking oppurtunity just at their own national parkt and the vast mountain ranges all within 1-2 hours drive close enough to Athens*
Hi ptolemy, I’m heading to Greece for 10 days in November with wife and 2 kids. I’ve seen a video saying Athens is dangerous? Is this true? Thanks for any input.
Went to Athens in April with my girlfriend, she came back as my Fiancé. Fell in love with the city and each other. I used to watch this video over and over before we went and it was so surreal to actually stand at the Parthenon. Food was spectacular and the locals were unbelievably friendly! I'd love to come back!
Going to Greece with my wife in September to see family in evia and will be doing Athens before island cruises. We plan to do the Athens Rick Steve’s should be so fun.
I am greek. I left Greece when I was 18 and after 32 years exil in France I decided to move back to Athens this summer. Your video and the comments reenforced my decision. Yes Athens is definitely very special ! It'a all about light and energy. Thank you for your video, you're doing just great 🙂
Congratulations on possibly the best RUclips travel video I've watched (and I've watched a lot). Comprehensive, genuinely informative - I appreciate you taking the trouble to add proper historical context - and delivered in a friendly, relaxed and unpretentious style. Very good job.
I tried hard to escape this city but like so many other people from allover Greece and allover the world it kept assimilating me to its amazing chaos found nowhere else in Europe. Everyone coming to Greece should visit amazing Athens. Congrats for the great tips you give in your video. A true travel video.
Oh my God! I am greek, I am archaelogist, you nailed it! So so accurate about history even details. I also love the Ancient Agora museum. It's the most interesting, really enlightening about everyday life!
Thank you for the video. Visiting Athens soon and gave me a good insight of what to do. Alsoooo the part of lowering the flag. In the United States it’s called “retiring of the colors”. At sunset all national flags are to be lowered and removed from flag poles. And then the next morning at 8am is the “posting of the colors” where they will hoist the national colors to the national anthem. Again not sure if it’s the same military customs and courtesies here but judging by your video it’s a safe bet that’s what was going on. Cheers!
Great video, thoroughly enjoyed your footage and explanations of Modern Athens. I found it to be a very underrated city but I'm pleased more travelers are taking time to explore her a bit more. What I would say though, is I would have liked to have seen more of Glyfada and maybe some of the beaches dotted along the Athenian Riviera. I know there is a lake in southern Athens too...Lake Vouliagmeni (a must they say). Maybe your third trip!! Hahaha
Ohh I almost visited Lake Vouliagmeni but ended up going on that hike instead!! So pleased you enjoyed the video and thanks for sharing your tips - much appreciated ☺️
One thing and only. If you're just another so called amurikan, never bend over in front of a greek in Athens. Hide somewhere and use your pro jelly lubricant
A good vantage point when coming to a new city? I'll have to try that. My favorite first thing to do is grocery shop. Feel like it turns me more into a local rather than a tourist.
I have been looking for “Plato’s Academy Centre” in Athens for days, but couldn’t remember the name. I believe I’ve found it, after lucking back onto this video. It really is a great video. Look for “Plato’s Academy Digital Museum Alkmeonos 1”
Totally agree that Athens is must when visit Greece! So many people suggested we stick to the islands during our trip and that was horrible advice! We loved our two days there and wished we had more time to do everything you listed!
Would you mind sharing the names of the cocktail bars you mentioned in Psyri? I’m going this summer and staying in an Airbnb there and would love to check them out. I really appreciate your channel and found so many of the videos helpful!
Athens is such a wonderful place. What bag did you use for this trip? Have you tried using a duffle bag for your travel? I recommend using the Bento Bag from Nomad Lane.
Hi girl vs globe, I’m heading to Greece for 10 days in November with wife and 2 kids. I’ve seen a video saying Athens is dangerous? Is this true? Thanks for any input.
I had to pull over to write how impressive this video was. You are one of the best female narrators I have seen on RUclips. 1. No annoying repetitions such as “awesome”, “very-very”, “amazing “. 2. No overflow of fake positive energy and fake excitement. Pure and true positive emotions. 3. Even though you are a pretty girl there were no excessive female-style narrating. No sexy pausing voices, breathings, irrelevant smiles, etc. 4. You gave us personal and thoughtful feedback on what to do, not a generic list from the internet. Watching this video was like a breath of fresh air. Thank you.

Come to somaliland
Not time for chit chat then continues to talk about your sponsors until a commercial 🥺
I am pleased you've enjoyed Athens, you're a very attractive girl.
!؟?
That was very good young lady but as a former teacher at times you tend to talk a bit fast and your words run together
