I've been chasing his tone since I picked up a guitar and man, the trick is how his tones can be so meaty/chunky but still retain clarity almost like there is no distortion at all. Absolutely phenomenal.
I was close to getting the tone on a Line 6, and then accidentally replaced the pre-setting.. and I don't remember any of the settings I had it at 😂😂😂
he played lightly also that changed alot
Secret is the middle pickup position.
Depends on the album, but I know Page didn't use much gain or distortion for the early LP albums. BUT, he did crank his amps.
That's the trick. You found it without recognizing it. He barely used much gain or distortion and relied heavily on the tone of his guitar through an amp that has the volume cranked up.
I think its funny that Jimmy Page's Fender Telecaster going into a Vox AC30 has sold a lot of Les Paul's and Marshalls. Just sayin'
Tom Tobin Supro amp but yea i agree
But his live stuff shouldn't be ignored. He had free will to choose his kit.
Your right!
Only for the first album
he used more Les Paul in the studio than currently being recognised I think, however yes, he used a lot more Tele in the studio than the Les Paul sure - a lot more Tele than had once been spoken about en masse
To me the best tone Page used was on Since I've Been Loving You
domcha131 nope. Stairway to heaven.
Which one? he used about 5 different guitars on that song.
Artcore103 yeah stairway live. I know live aid was a disaster but the tone he had then was amazing. Or the song remains the same concert
Oooh but ten years gone?
Yes. I hear the tone on Tea For One on many of his songs too.
Jimmy Page got his tones from other dimensions. He himself came from a different dimension.
came-past tense? he's still alive...
@@martysquire1054 But now he is here, so the process, in which he switched dimensions is in the past
This i believe is true....
Jimmy Page transcends humanity
Simple Joe. Ah, but that's art, right!

Yeah, and a Danelectro ‘59.
Mirror tele is dragon tele maaaan ♥
Thanasis Papadimitriou i was about to say the same thing, thank you
Dragon Tele was just the Mirror Tele repainted lol. And add a danelectro and even more guitars to that list.
dude the crucial element is the rest of the band...... Bonham's cymbals and JPJ's bass make a natural high and low freq sandwich that make Page's tone sound more balanced and centered than it actually probably was in real life
This is really interesting and a great point!
they were really a once in a life time group. They all complemented each other's sound so welll.
@@tazisme5751one of those groups where every single member could be argued to be the best at their respective instrument
I think Jimmy Page was the most creative guitarist of the 70s if not the most creative riff-master of all time. This example maybe a bit clichéd but I have pretty much heard every singe bootleg of Stairway there is on RUclips and I can definitely attest to the fact that he's universally known for is that aside from the signature riffs, I have literally never seen the man improvise on the solo in the same way as before. I can never understand enough that just how gifted this man musically really was. Having been listening to so many guitar players play their songs for years, I strive to hear something that imaginably seems impossible now to play differently, POSSIBLE and much to my great astonishment, Jimmy for one has always delivered on that wish.
I mean I solo over the song in my mind all the time and then when I come here and hear him play, I ask myself "just how in the world does he think of those gorgeous licks so damn quickly?" because I've been playing it in my mind again and again from days to months to years now but could never come up with something so magical. His brain clearly bred music so to speak.
You spoke my mind here. Also I see you borrowed some of my words from my comment on the ARMS Concert video. Well written nevertheless...😂
Exactly what I think whenever I put on a live Zeppelin album. I can definitely however tell that properly knowing the pentatonic and other respective scales makes soloing easier than what you may have come to believe so far. Then again you do have have to think your way into pressing those areas on the fretboard to get the desired magic out. Page knew his way around the fretboard better than anybody else which is even more amazing considering the fact that he never actually practiced guitar in the traditional method.
Vishal Rajput he's the clit master
S-AG-E - yes, Page is the greatest riff and song writer ever. Think of HOW MANY awesome riffs Page has written!! Many tonal variations on his guitar tones, not to mention he pioneered recording also, got Bonhams giant drum tones onto tape and wrote a ton of the lyrics! Page is hands down the greatest EVER!! Nobody comes close!
Jimmy was great in the 70’s. But I have to give Eddie the title of most creative. With Randy Rhoads also up there above Jimmy.

Would be strange in real life, that
Heh
He played a song from their 5th album and everyone keeps talking about the tele on the 1st album??????
Tele was on Led Zeppelin I, some of II, I think maybe III, and on physical graffiti.
Based on a really old interview Page plugged into old Marshall 100 watt heads, that were modified for higher wattage. His used Herco Flex 75 heavy gauge pics and Ernie Ball Super Slinky strings, .008 for the high E. Page set his live rig amp settings on his Marshall Plexi as follows:
Presence = 10
Bass = 9
Mids = 3
Treble = 5
Volume I = 6
Volume II = 6
Hope this helps.
Dedicated Herco Flex 75 an .oo8 gauge string user here!!! I play a strat into a Bassman though!
The Plexi is Part of it albeit Richie Blackmore had 200 Watt KT88 Marshalls as well (as did others) and sounded different .. The Pickups were the main key being an UNBALANCED Set ( low Wind Bridge, high wind neck) Complete opposite of what is considered normal today... I replicate his 1973 live tone on my channel
One of the most perfect examples of Page's tone is the tone throughout "Heartbreaker"...especially the middle part with just the guitar. How the hell does he get that sound? I want it.
Jimmy Pages biggest guitar tone secret: HE DIDNT USE A PRS FFS
Now do habits of Jimmy Page
Big Boss just miss every second note while soloing and you'll be fine
Down a bottle of Jack Daniels, then wear your guitar too low
MoviMakr then make sure that the sweat from your hair puts the cig out
Then do a nod and smile with some ridiculous outfit on (i.e. khakis and dress shirt or leather pants and shirt).
I'm already a demon kaz
*Cough* telecaster.
Lotus Lexa. That's only for studio version. He used the les Paul live
Exactly. But on Immigrant song, it certainly sounds like a Tele...
Most likely it was a tele. The on-stage used guitars more times than not have no relation to the studio guitar. Stage is about the look and presence but artists are in no way obligated to record with any particular instrument. You'll never see Metallica play teles on stage but they too use on many of their records. There's even videos if you look at them recording "Ronnie" for example.
Watch some early live stuff. A really good show is the 1969 one on that Dutch tv show
David Hall not a tele a early les paul 100 % tyler you did a great job as good as page
Best Jimmy Page tone guide on youtube by far. Though the tone for "Immigrant Song" was absolutely spot on
"hmm lets analyze our amp settings. . ." --proceeds to crank everything up to 11
the recording sounds meatier to me. could be because of the bass but not sure.
aman chandra yeah it's probably because of the band, possibly also his picking
100watters vs computer direct recording. Also (digital) speaker choice should be large mag 55hz celestions...or so I have heard. My guess is he has pickups for metal vs PAFs too.
aman chandra hmmm I'm not sure cuz they are correct, of course high watt amps are going to have that loud live punch but honestly I have some really great, punchy, real sounding plugins. I seriously think he might have just added a tiny pinch too much treble and he coulda used a tiny pinch more of mid. And then maybe used an equalizer along with the amp plug in to boost the bass frequencies a bit. And the reverb would have carried the bass frequencies to a good point. Take into account that RUclips streaming might not sound as good as his home studio speakers as well.
aman chandra but tbh he got pretty close regardless.
Not to leave out compression in the recording from Led Zeppelin getting re compressed by RUclips during upload.
Next: Iommi's tone
Kostis. Simple, grab a Gibson SG and a old Orange Amps stack and some overdrive or distortion and hammer out those riffs.
Dexter D Skates He didn't use orange. He used Marshall and Laney. It's just that he rented the orange cabs for a music video.
Uncomfortable penguin true, but it'll be a pricy one to replicate either way
Jedan Covek but like you can't get metal fingertips anymore so
P90 equipped SG or Les Paul with a Laney or Orange amplifier.
One of the cheaper gibson p90 SG's with Iommi's small signature laney amp would probably come close.
I read the title as "Jimmy Page's Guitar Tone Sucks" I clicked on the video in rage ready to write a long-winded hate comment 😂

I think the video is not about the gear that page used, more about his tone secrets as the title shows ;-) also if he would have used a tele everyone would have told him to use a les paul and vice versa ;-)
He actually used a lot of telecaster in the studio. And do you even have a non prs guitar
Logan Walker I Think he has a Strat
Dan122365 nahh he doesn't have a strat
Logan Walker he have ukulele
Logan Walker also used small amps like Supros
In the video he was referencing a live version, in which Jimmy would have a les paul...
I think you were pretty close to his sound

I think most of the gear big musicians had back then was modified by themselves or tone nerd friends. This is why you'll never be able to match the tones of the greats. They didn't just chain pedals together and dial them in. They got into the guts of their guitars and amps and made something new.
As an owner of an Apollo Twin myself, who doesn't currently take advantage of the plug ins feature (I mainly just use it as an interface) this video has REALLY opened my eyes .... Watching you methodically tweaking different plug in settings to ultimately NAIL Jimmy Page's "Ocean" tone was really great to watch .... Thank you for the inspiration. I really enjoy your videos a great deal, it's obvious you are not only a great player but a great instructor as well. Thank you very much.
Well I'm a gear head, only on cars...but I love page....I dont trust anyone who doesn't like LED ZEPPELIN
Jack White said this.
Ziggy Lothbrook - Wow.. exactly same comment I’ve made many times 👌👌
This is cool. I agree that there's little point attempting to emulate others, but Jimmy's SRTS tone is just incredible! I've been searching for that tone for the longest time, and I think you came close with the match to The Ocean from that concert. I'd love to see what you'd do with finding the SRTS tone from songs like Dazed and Confused. The one thing you seemed to miss was his use of the ECHOPLEX! That added the tight little delay and also the preamp brought a warmth to the tone that is crucial.
A lot of that tone comes from the '59 les paul, trust me. Especially songs like Since I've Been Lovin' You from that concert, during the parts where he turns his volume down for quieter riffs. Go watch a video and listen to a '59 LP, it sounds exactly the same.
Old Thread...I recreate those SRTS Pickups on my channel..I was so fortunate to Know Jimmy's Right Hand Man.
Demo of Set #84 was uploaded last night..( the set gets that live No Quarter Solo tone people talk about)
A debate has raged for many years on what electric guitars were used on the first album.
It’s hard for people to believe, but I just used my Fender Telecaster for the entire album, except for one track. Somebody was trying to sell me a Gibson Flying V at the time. I don’t what made them think I could afford it, because I clearly couldn’t, but I asked them if I could just try it out. I brought it into Olympic and used it on “You Shook Me.” With those big humbuckers, it was so powerful you can hear it breaking up the amp in the middle of the song. I could’ve tidied it up, but I really liked hearing the amp really struggle to get the sound out. It’s really fighting through the electronics to get out of that speaker. I’m not sure what happened to the guitar. It might’ve found its way to Keith Richards or something, but I really don’t know.
Typical EQ for his 180 watt MKII was at volume 3-4, bass 6, mid 4, treble 6-7 presence 10 out to 2x4x12 w/Greenbacks. Channels bridged. Good video.
Now all you need is John Bonham,John Paul Jones and Robert Plant to get that *classic zeppelin sound*.Just kidding, your videos are awesome,i even bought a green pick.
Who else shook their hair around and started wailing when he started playing 'Immigrant Song'?
...oh...
just me? 😶
Naw, I'm with you.
It's a pavlovian response by now.
What hair?
Echoplex, tele, old tube mics. Great video.
I've watched most of Jimmy's interviews, read most of his books, he had a collection of 50 different small amplifiers in the early days, he actually cannot remember what gear was used. he knows what gear and pedals he likes, and like us he's always rotating new gear in and out, what worked yesterday is gone and forgotten, he generally remembers what is used on each song. the stories of the recording sessions are insane drug and alcohol fueled sessions, they borrow each other's gear, no ones worrying or remembering what the gear was used. small low watt amps were used in the studio in the early days, if you asked Jimmy page to re-create Jimmy page's tone today, he could not do it either.
later albums, after they are extremely successful they start keeping track of how the music was made. by the way what settings did you use on that RUclips video 5 years ago, remember.?
I was just jamming on my guitar playing different songs, rhcp, tool, then I started playing the stairway to heaven solo for about five minutes and put my guitar down. I picked up my phone and opened up RUclips and this was the first video that popped up.....
Aaron 102 you play rhcp and tool? I found someone I like. They are probably my two favourite bands
Fabien Dolan haha same! That's awesomeeee man, what's your fav song by both bands??
Aaron 102 Aenima is my fav tool song, but the pot and lateralus come close
RedHyphen ooo yes, lateralus is my fav haha, what about your fav red Hot Chili Peppers song??
Any time I tune to drop-D, all my guitar will play is Tool.
Tyler, You're really Good at your Craft.🎸 James Patrick Page is in my Opinion, The Greatest Of All Time.
I started following MIW because of the way Tyler plays guitar (clearly exceptionally talented), but now I find I watch these things because of what he has to say... usually informative and helpful without being heavily opinionated. Thank you Tyler, this is what the internet is for.
59 les Paul with an overwound, Alnico II PAF pickup in the neck and a standard t-top in the bridge. Neck pu is slightly hotter than the bridge. His tone gets a slight boost and tonal change by from running into an echoplex as the preamp tubes are providing this even when the delay is not actively being used. This goes into a Marshall plexi that has been modded with KT88 tubes for more clean head room and some tightening of the lower and lower mid range frequencies. Amp settings: treble usually at 8-10, mid 0-4, bass 0-4, presence around 7 and volume/gain around halfway. There ya go folks.
You do know that Zeppelin I was recorded with his Dragon Telecaster thru a Supro Thunderbolt, yeah?
Except the ocean isn’t off Zep I
For me, the closest I've ever gotten to page's tone was setting my presets to: Lows - 6, Mids - 9 and Highs - 4. Now this could vary depending on the amp you're using, but I think its accurate. Please let me know what you think as well as others that watched this video
Watching him live, he seems really light on his picking hand which is counter intuitive bearing in mind how powerful his riffs are.
His biggest thing was the band
For example people crank their amp's bass all the way and say "not enough bass"
Because they're hearing bass guitar underneath some riffs
How to get a good guitar tone with a line 6 spider!!!
lucky dominguez sell it and buy something else
lucky dominguez Step 1: dont own a line 6
Done
that´s too simple, i want to know if a good tone with that amp is possible, somehow.
lucky dominguez use your ears, try everything, especially the things that don't make sense (because the ones that do make sense, you probably already tried). Try everything
Easy! Have knowledge, have a good guitar and be a GOOD GUITARIST!!!
Sounds good to me. Just subscribed.
Love that PRS. The color is killer. Mu brother has a 10 top 1990 model to die for. Live those guitars.
The slap back was an echoplex set on low ms. Try about 60-70ms on a tape delay plugin to get that echoplex-like slap back effect.
Very helpful... New things to try.
The reverb is wrong. He never used reverb. What you're hearing is the echoplex on slapback and the natural reverb of the stage
the echoplex is a reverb type. 0_0
He uses reverb to simulate the little ambience.
But he uses too much
yes mate your right so many people think its reverb.reverb was a no no on most major recordings and still is.most verb on zepplin is actually the rooms to match up to the drum sound hence making it sound like there all in the one room
Sal Zulli I hate reverb. Set a delay with low repeats and a fast slapback setting and ur golden.
A little closer than the shirt and axe match
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, I believe that tone starts in your hands, your fingers, and your attitude!
The sound your going for initially is the Madison Square Garden live sound. You did good but I think just a little to bright. Awesome video!!!
Excellent video, thanks! And yes, it's very close. There doesn't seem to be quite as much high end in the recording, but it's always hard to say how much of that kind of thing could be attributed more to the recording process than to the guitar/amp sound.
Who cares if you matched the tone!! That sounds awesome! Cheers, Tyler! Hope we see more of these
Great job! Sounds like you're fairly close to me! Jimmy Page was the reason I picked up the guitar and the reason my first guitar was a gold top standard with mini buckers in it back in 1973! Jimmy Page is the epitome of an icon to me. So we both share the love of Jimmy's work
Nice demo. I've almost always played real amps live, but I have used modelers for almost all my recordings of electric guitar and bass since about 2000. First and foremost, they can sound good if you know what you're doing. Without that, there's no point. But also, as someone who made his living by the hour, the flexibility to change sounds, effects, etc. without re-tracking is priceless.
Tony Iommi please!!!
Pretty damn close
I watched an interview show with Jimmy Page (British show I found surfing) and he mentioned he used a small Supro amp for the recording of their 2nd album...held his hands up to show it was @ 15"x15"... and said he didnt think they even made it any longer. He was answering a audience member's question about what his favorite amp was...he didnt want to get into any details and claimed a fuzzy memory...but said that Supro was probably it.
You can get the SRTS tone without all the equipment . It’s all in the pickups . Bryan from Australia. Sells the modified pickups he rewinds pickups one is turned around like Peter green . He has a pedal Marshall sound through a music man amp . He got the mod from Pages guitar tech in the early 70s . I ordered a pair and there awesome. All three settings , he shows what pickup setting he’s using for each song . Watch his Demo on you tube . And it’s affordable and not a one trick pony . You did good on this video . Let me know what you think .
Jimmy Page is the most talented guitarist in history

It's what you've heard. It's an absolutely ludicrous comment. Foolish really. And I'm a fan.
Light gauge .8 strings and Herco .73 holy grail picks. Thank me later.
I Play Guitar since 30 Years ..and Jimmy Page /Led Zeppelin i know Tons of Stuff ..and i go into the details of Pagey´s Style ..He is my Nr 1 because in his songs have ALWAYS something Special..
And his RocK n Roll Influence beneath the Typical Blues scale ..Later the more progressive Stuff (Achilles last Stand" "No Quarter" etc..
All in all i have to say Page was the most versatile and greatest Guitarist of that Golden era
I mean ..."It´s been a long time since i+ve Rock n Roll ...Its been a long time since i´ve did that stroll ...Let me get it back l et me get itback let me get it baaack"This Music is so PERFECT
The Solo of "Rock n Roll" is so OVERDRIVEN Cool (i don´t find the right words )
And .. i mean some may say Overplayed ..but "Stairway to Heaven" is a ANTHEM ..this song which starts with a Music like from Centurys ago and then growth to a 20th Century PEARL ...
Damm .. i say THIS is the best song of All Times ...the Beginning of the drums . then Jonesy´s Tastful 7ender rhoades Piano + the PHANTASTIC Guitars and Plants UNIQUE Voice (there will be NEVER again Such a great voice like Plant with the early LED ZEP) The Guitar Solo ..then the Powerchord riffs with his Marshall Plexi ...This is SUCH a Perfect Song ..could you imagine that they first don´t wanthis on Led Zep IV ??
Led Zep I (the first Record) was the Big Bang of Hard Rock (The Second Record with "Heartbreaker Omg too )
I think you can hear it that i am a Fan :-D,
I think the tone you got was freaking awesome and would love to have it for my personal live tone! Love Jimmy’s tone and you certainly did it some justice, bro. Keep rocking!

YES PLEASE
I'd love to do David Gilmour.
Fender Strat or Telecaster through a Fender Tweed with a Fuzz, Phaser, Delay, Compressor, Reverb, and occasionally a Wah for some effects
I personally liked Jimmy's tone off of Supro from earlier albums
Yeah supros and teles were the early records
Hells yes
I have a replica of the Tone Bender that Page used in the early zeppelin records, and I played around with a Supro Black Magick amplifier and a telecaster.
Fucking beautiful sounds, IDENTICAL to Page in Zeppelin I
for you guys complaining about a telecaster, the ocean is from their fifth album which jimmy used a les paul. and even if you guys are skeptical of that he's comparing a live recording which he almost always used a les paul
Very nice work man. Nailed it imo. Thanks. One of my favorite tone and licks that got me into playing in the first place.
you should ask Jimi page to be on the show i mean never hurts to ask does it?
Jimi is dead. This video is about Jimmy.
habits of marty friedman?
Ko Matsuda He has an amazing video about bending that really opened my eyes to guitar. I would try to find it, just search Marty Friedman Bending Lesson (if you haven't seen it).
Hes a friggin genius in bending
smoking, masturbation and picking his nose.
He played the live “song remains the same” version of it if anyone was wondering
Does your Gibson have the 21 tone wiring that Jimmy Page used? He said in an interview he used the push pull pots to put his pick ups in and out of phase mostly, but you can do other tones. Those may be missing in the reconstruction you did
Jason Sands: Page had 21 sounds only on his #2 Les Paul.. He had those mods done in 1985 by Steve Hoyland.. The #2 was only a backup.. There was no mods in the Zeppelin years bar a T Top installed in mid 1972.. I replicate the sounds on my channel.
Before Zep while he was a studio musician he used a telecasters as well. That telecaster (b-bender i think) also made it into the recording studio while with Led Zeppelin he even mentions not being able to nail the stairway solo with the Less Paul so he plugged in the tele and wrapped up the solo in two takes. Kashmir was a Danelectro and I believe he had several of them in the studio as well.
Page didn't use a Marshall in the ocean,...
He used a HiWatt.
But for the rest, good video!
Elliott T but he used a Marshall live, he was chasing his live sound
Austin Moser Aah k
also HiWatt can be kinda close to Marshall in a way that both has definite presence in midrange
Marshall and strat on studio and Hiwatt live in 1972 and marshall and les paul in 73
And a lespaul...
Another great trick for Page is to put the selector switch in the middle and work the volumes... Even for bridge only if you add like 10% neck you realize why his is less harsh
Live rig: His Marshalls were 100 watt modded to 200 watts I believe. Les Paul, EDS-1275 Double neck, Danelectro, Botswana Brown Tele and a Martin acoustic. Echoplex (with booster), Theremin. Later shows he employed an Eventide Harmonizer too.
Also, following Alestar Crowley's religion helped a bit. Gotta summon those demons on the banks of Loch Ness too...LOL
Cool. Can that thing replicate the tone of a shred wars with Jared Dines?
Clever
That's cute...use a digital interface to sound like Pagey. Should be called "Wanna be sound like Page".
most of the early Zeppelin albums Page didn't even play a Les Paul. he was known to use Strats/Telecasters and some tiny little amps in the studio. his best tones aren't even what people think they are.
The studio version of The Ocean isn't on an early album dude. Besides, as most people noted here, he was seeking the LIVE version tone. Which used a LP.
Zep II was certainly done on the Les Paul and Marshall. Everyone knows he used a tele on the debut and the stairway solo but people over exaggerate like he never recorded w a les Paul lol
Page loved to use small practice combos like Supros and Fender Champs far miced in a small room to get some huge tones. Also had all sorts if out of phase and series sounds wired on his Les Pauls, as well as obviosly using a Tele on many studio recordings.
One of my friends was a roadie for Zeppelin in the 70’s and was able to share some info with me. Jimmy used a Supro Thunderbolt to get a lot of his tones. Most people don’t know this
You can't even buy the tone if you had the money. The tone is lost and gone forever because the old Celestions speakers are gone and lost. It also has to do with other things such as amplifier tubes from back then which are also non existent. The analog magnetic tape is not used anymore and the mixing consoles are gone as well. None of this stuff can be made again and certainly not in any sort of digital way. The real secret of it all was the Celestion speakers made in the 60's. If you ain't got that, you can not make the tone. The reason is, you could distort the heck out of a signal using tube amps and it would never clip (square wave) the signal, and the Celestions would cut out any mid to high frequency noise. If you think about it, its the lack of hi-fidelity of it all that made it all sound so good. As an interesting fact, Celestion speakers were sold for PA intercom systems for boats and ships, and Marshal just kind of by using what was available in England put them into the cabs. I bet you even Page can't make the tone he used to be able to make anymore. I wonder what he has saved from the old equipment because I have not heard a good tone from him in at least some 30 or 40 years. It was all just a happy accident they had the equipment available. Good luck.
in the habits of Steve Vai vídeo Your tone sounds pretty much like Vai ,how do You get that tone?
You're forgetting the *arguably* most important part of his gear, he had an Echoplex EP3 in his circuit, that gave him more of a crunch not making it as nasally as yours is. Try adding a preamp in your series.
Royal Albert Hall 1970 live tone has gotta take the cake in my book

+Nicolás Pacheco I find that using a small maybe crancked 5-10 watt amp with the eq flat and a treble booster also does the job for the Deacy amp
VOX Amp
What software does he use for emulating the amp?
Sounds good.... I read somewhere that page had modified his les paul. It had coil taps....that would definitely make it honkier...???
OK Jimmy Page's Tone Bender looked stock, but Roger Mayer tweaked the internals. Even when Page played clean, you can still hear a bit of dirt on the top end. (Like a Fuzz) The Wah looked stock but was not. The Echoplex was also tweaked internally. Mayer also modified Jimi Hendrix's Fuzz Face and pedals...
I thought he used a small 8 watt supro valco amp with a fender telecaster (that joe Walsh gave him) and two mics, one right on the speaker for that bite and another mic 6feet behind it to pick up the room sound? Plexis and Paul's were his live tone
Sam Winn he's going after the live version of the ocean from HTWWW
Oh I gotcha, he definitely nailed his live tone, no one ever tries to get his studio tone though idk why when there's so many DAW's pedals and amps to get very close
Sam Winn Walsh sold him his 59’ Les Paul. The Telecaster came from The Yardbirds. Get it right Sam !!!!!!!
I’ve always heard Zep used a lot more distance miking to get that big room sound. Not many were doing that kind of thing back then.
slash please!!
LucianSarbu MD2 but not tone secrets, like this video
yup
/
there you go
Have a Mashall simulator have an humbucking guitars and only use the neck pickup
Even if he uses the same amp and guitar like slash's he still won't sound like him.My point is that the tone is in the fingers and it's not only my opinion and that tone in the fingers is different for every guitarist and that's what makes every of them unique. That's what makes slash's guitar playing unique and the chromatic notes in his blues improvisations.
The guitar choice is easy depending on what number and whether you are trying to emulate studio or live tone. You’re looking at either a Les Paul, SG double neck or Tele in many cases. And if you’re specifically looking for that TSRTS Les Paul tone, you will need: 4 wire PAF’s, overwound bridge, a “normal” wound neck, and super circuit wiring scheme are must haves on board the Les Paul. The phase switching, along with series/parallel switching was featured heavily on those recordings. Example: listen to the opening lick of Over The Hills. Neck pup selected, parallel switch, low pup volume, and scooped pup tone. It also would help to have a Les Paul that is from the early 90’s or older. My ‘’89 Heritage Pre-Historic Les Paul does the job for me with the setup I just laid out. This is key because of how mahogany ages, and how that aging affects the guitars tone. As far as the amp goes: Has to be a tube driven Marshall. I specifically use the JVM410H. Have to scoop the presence, mid and bass. Dial back the treble a touch. Definitely a need a bit of the amps onboard reverb. Effects are fuzz box, wah peddle, phaser, chorus and tape echo (each depending on which number being played) and that’s how I’ve achieved that very specific tone. It’s not exactly easy to achieve, but it can be done with the right rig and the patience to toggle all the controls just right.
Its awesome that you picked one of my neighbors guitars!!
For Immigrant Song that sounds like his Telecaster through on Orange amp.
Could you do a full video about how that emulator works?
You did a great job of coming close to his tone. I love Page's guitar work and have followed him since the Yardbirds. In spite of the Snarky comments on here, I really liked this vid. BTW to whoever thinks that was a "live" version of the Ocean is wrong. It was DEFINITELY the studio version that I've been familier with since it's release.
Sounds like you captured The Ocean sound very well. Definitely some slap back sort of thing going on with Jimmy's sound.
well done!
Habits of Nick Jonas plsssss
Swapna Banerjee if you watch the full video performance of his guitar fail, it actually sounded pretty good before the fail
jake schleifer It's a joke man
Swapna Banerjee of course it's a joke
Easy: buy and expensive tele and forget your part
smoking dope, picking his nose and procrastination when it comes to practice.
First album was a Tele and a Supro amp along with a wah and an echoplex. He did a lot of open tuning and a combination of close and distance amp miking.
I think you were spot on. I don't see how you could have been better. Sounded perfect.
First album Telecaster
Too bright
Should of used a Tone Bender. The tone was very close though. Maybe using a les Paul or a Tele with a Supro amp and then plug in the Tone Bender or say a Blue Box for “ Fool in the Rain “ or a Vox Wah for Whole Lotta Love. I guess this was a product plug for UA which could be why you didn’t use all the actual gear he was known to use.
I had a les Paul studio and a cheap line 6 spider and I loved jimmy page so much he was the the reason I started playing and I scoured the internet and found settings that sounded pretty good but this was atleast 10 years ago
