Hey man I appreciate the look at my great uncle he was & still is one of a kind who brought terror to the defense with every run. Hard to find anyone now a days who even has a clue who he is or how a fullback was once utilized. Thank you again!

That was one helluva backfield. Czonka, Kiik, and Mercury Morris. When Czonka needed a breather, Kiik would carry the load and continue the pounding and battering ram fest of the defense. When the defense would load up against them, Morris would burn them with scat back speed. But Czonka's mind bending and body breaking blend of speed and power made it work. And nobody had a better OL than the 72 Dolphins.
Czonka and Dick Butkis were the heart and soul of the NFL in that era. And the way they each dominated their respective positions defined the way football should be played. And this type of play is altogether missing from the modern league.

The Tyler Rose was the epitome of power backs who could run plain over you, or around you but he looked to run over people. Ran the ball consistently 30 to 50 times a game. Bum Phillips and the Oilers ruined his career by never doing anything but running him. His body took so much abuse... truly one of the greatest. Love Csonka though... same style of runner...

You left out one of my favorite plays. When he was with the Giants, a Cardinals' safety hit one of our WR as he was going out of bounds. The WR, Robinson I think, was injured on the play. Csonka told him he'd get the safety if he had the chance. Later in the game Csonka broke through the line and had a full head of steam heading for the endzone. The only man in his way? That safety. I don't think he even tried to tackle Csonka, but Csonka and completely ran him down and pounded him into the dirt, left him knocked out on his way to the TD.

Especially since FB are the eyes and ears of the running backs. Instead of making that one man miss, the RB can get out into open space and do his thing. An unfortunate casualty of the NFL trying to cater to the passing game.

I was just thinking the same when the packers in one drive had a 1st & G on the 8, 2nd & G on the 5, and then a 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th & G on the 1 and went with a pass, pass, pass, pass, pass, pass.
It was just about the saddest display I’ve ever seen lol... such a lack of faith (justifiably) in any semblance of a run game really shows where this league is at right now.

It's become a corporate entity.NASCAR also went corporate.Anytime stuffed pompous soy boys get involved in anything it gets cheapened.Walmart,IBM,Apple and Lockheed or our national space program getting involved in anything is turning it into a freak show where even the nonsensical is rationalized.Football was much different then. Now you can't even watch the super bowl without being preached to about how gay love is beautiful, women can play football too, only better.Gotta be a Berkley or Georgetown study.Harvard studies indicate the same thing. This was a football player tough guy.The real deal.
I can't imagine Csonka pontificating corporate value systems.Which is on its own is totally laughable.

This arrogant generation of NFL professionals can't hold a candle to those who played in the 1960s, 1970s. Today's athletes may be bigger and faster but they are sorely lacking the heart and passion for the game. Czonka was the defination of a true warrior. Believe me, in the open field, he was fun to watch. You had to feel sorry for anyone in the defensive secondary who had to tackle this guy. I'm so glad I had the opportunity to see him play. A true legend of the game.

Actually ...There was a monday night game between the bears and the dolphins....on one play Zonk blew through the line ....Butkis was right in the middle .....there they were ...one on one ....They collided like two freight trains ....all momentum ceased instantly .....they both went down on that spot ....What happens when an unstoppable force meets an immovable object?" Time stands still for a second then they both fall to the ground facing each other. I will never forget that play.
