I’m a 49 year old white liberal veteran. I’m tired of fighting. I’m tired of fighting with conservatives who don’t share my values and I’m tired of fighting with other liberals who tell me I’m not liberal enough. I’ve marched, I’ve designed signs, I’ve tried debating with folks and I’ve cut people from my life who support fascism. It’s never enough. I’m exhausted. No one listens. All these 30 and 20 something talking heads regurgitating all the same talking points we were warning people about in the late 90’s and early 2000’s are coming home to roost, and these kids act like they’ve discovered fire. I wish some of you civilians had some idea what is was like to be a liberal Democrat actively serving in the armed forces during the bush years… I’m just tired. Leopards don’t just eat faces on the right.
Words like liberal, conservative, socialist, democrat, left and right, are just words. I guess we need a constant dialogue without using these words. Because everyone interpretes these words differently. It just creates more confusion. It does not bring us together. Let's talk about our core values. Like fears and hope and belief and wounds and longing.

David, you said something that really turned a light on for me. I hadn't even realized that the thing that bugs me MOST about the traditional news show format is the freakin' INTERVIEWS. The format where the host tells you something, and then you have a whole barrage of other people agreeing with, amplifying, and repeating it. In contrast, shows like yours just have the host saying what he's got to say, and then it's on to a different point or topic. Just at the general, format level, that's a way better way to go, at least for me. So thanks.

I stopped watching corporate news when I dumped cable 14 years ago. Now I'm actually finding out what's happening in the world, instead of the same 3 or 4 stories they run for a week.

As a almost 70 year old, I experienced this mind set on my job. So many people came running to me for the answers. Prior to my retirement, I explained this phenomenon time after time! At my retirement, I had peers thank me for being candit about their situation. The world is more complicated, but the populace is far behind. Look what happened with the recent presidential election.

David, you said something that really turned a light on for me. I hadn't even realized that the thing that bugs me MOST about the traditional news show format is the freakin' INTERVIEWS. The format where the host tells you something, and then you have a whole barrage of other people agreeing with, amplifying, and repeating it. In contrast, shows like yours just have the host saying what he's got to say, and then it's on to a different point or topic. Just at the general, format level, that's a way better way to go, at least for me. So thanks.

The internet has spoiled students! If they cannot find it quickly, they want someone to tell them the answer. The same mind set is found in the job world! Critical thinking has gone bye bye! As a almost 70 year old, I experienced this mind set on my job. So many people came running to me for the answers. Prior to my retirement, I explained this phenomenon time after time! At my retirement, I had peers thank me for being candit about their situation. The world is more complicated, but the populace is far behind. Look what happened with the recent presidential election.
Quite the unfair assumption. Can't tell you how many adults, many of them in their 70s now, would tell me when I asked them a question "just look it up" . I could easily say that people's desire to actually teach has gone "bye bye" since it's so much easier to blame "spoiled kids" nowadays and the Internet! Maybe the problem is the constant complaining and lack of action.

You'll get feedback from the library on who checked out reserve materials. Maybe 50%. If it's not something they can point and click on from their rooms, they don't want it. Research papers? Only online sources; maybe 1 in 12 students actually read a source not available online. Too lazy to walk 2 blocks to the library.

I live in a red state. I see "poor as dirt" ppl having kids they can't afford. Stop at one kid if you must procreate at all. Not having kids you really can't afford, can greatly help/improve one's life and overall situation. I am lower income and I was smart enuff not to have any children. We can't afford 'em. ❤ We have cats. Cats are good and cheap. 😅

To be fair there’s also the lack of access to affordable birth control. Unless you have insurance which a good chunk of working Americans do not have. It’s the lack of sex ed and birth control options.

I love cats, and my family has two pet cats, one of whom is a senior cat. Where my family lives, everything is expensive, especially veterinarian care, and because the healthcare of our furry children is not covered by insurance, even keeping pets is unfortunately expensive... ;(

Min wage in WA is actually over 16 and will go up to $16.66 ph as of Jan 1. Some areas are locally raising min to $20+. Of note: that state min applies to the service industry as well; no lower wage for tipped employees.
