This was such a solid tutorial! Cheers for the insight. I love the clarity of your narration and the way in which you filmed it. I’m certainly no tattoo artist, but some of the original characters that I draw have American traditional style tattoos, and I want to be able to better depict them (since I’ve been cheating by drawing them with clothing that covers said tattoos lol). I also really appreciate you mentioning the Spitshade set by Tattoo Smart! I’d never heard of them prior to this-I must be living under a rock-but I treated myself to the set, and wow, it’s a brilliant toolkit with truly useful brushes. Thanks again for making this video!
thanks for watching! I used to use clip studio paint and I know that tattoo smart makes some brushes for clip studio, but not all of them are compatible. but its worth checking out their site and seeing if they have some stuff you can use!
Hey bro hope you’re well you zapped me back in la a few years ago. Tat heeled up nicely, been drawing flash for fun lately and searched for a tutorial and funny enough yours popped up. Good ish !
I think it's the "Tranesca Ergonomic Grip Holder for Apple Pencil" on Amazon, I bought it a while ago but you should be able to find it there! Thanks for watching!
a long time ago I used to use the "airbrush" brushes that come with procreate and you can do a similar technique where you set one to the smudge tool. I'm not sure of an exact dupe though, I'll look into it!
I think it just looks whiter in the video because I'm not using the best camera. when I wanted to lighten my paper I click the icon in the top left and mess with the brightness and tint until I get something I like
Great video! I have been using procreate for about 4 years and i know a lot about it, it never knew how to get that perfect spit shade gradient. Great job!
Awesome video but damn these brushes and stuff are just breaking my bank. I already spent a lot on the hardware. Been trying with included brushes but it's lacking that texture you've got.
im not sure! I bought mine a long time ago and I think they have recently updated the pack so maybe the stuff I got is a little different than what's included now. if you dont see it maybe send them an email thru their customer support. sorry I couldn't be more helpful!
Hey really enjoyed the video! I just got the spit shade kit and was using the sharpie that you use but the black doesn’t seem as opaque. Is there specific settings your using to make your black not as transparent. Thanks!
I think the palette that comes with it uses a black that isn't 100% black so you can pull up the color wheel and select the darkest black from there. sometimes I color over a section a few times or if I want a quick fix ill just duplicate my layer once I'm done and then combine the two copies and it makes it darker
Thanks for this video, it was super helpful! I've been wondering, is it considered acceptable to trace old school flash? Or should every design be completely hand drawn by the artist? I see that you've traced and then added in your own style. That's what I've been doing.
it's all up to you! some artists stay really true to the original reference and recreate old flash as accurate to the time period as possible. for example, professor york does a great job of this and is really knowledge about tattoo history. he posts a lot of his references next to his interpretations which is a great learning tool to see how he's developed his style and flash and draws on those references. other artists like Bert Krak, Jay Roth, Dan Coy, etc (the list goes on an on) will either trace or redraw a classic piece of flash and maybe take the shape of a skull or panther and embellish it, maybe change the colors or make it more modern looking. and then some people like Mark Cross, Ryan Mettz, Wan Tattooer take those ideas and get really wonky and funky with it. there's no rules just do what looks cool to you! I will say that tracing flash, even if you don't make a final piece of art with it, is a great way to warm up and/or train your hand and eye to the proportions of certain images and helps you get a feel for what goes where and will help your designs get better and better. I know this is a really long explanation but I hope that helps!
@@bigtextutorials Cheers for pointing us in the direction of some artists to look at! I’m not very knowledgeable in the subject matter, but your guidance and having points of research is super useful.

unfortunately you have to buy it from their site. I can't put it up to share on here because you have to pay for it and I wouldn't want to steal tattoo smarts product!

yo! thank you dude!!!!
loved it! have you anything similar to those smart spit shade for free? im from brazil and it got really expensive to buy it
Amazing video dude, think I’ll save up for that spitshade set because standard airbrush is no good on Procreate. cheers!
yeah I think the spit shade is more expensive now but thats because they added some new features from back when I bought it. it's worth every cent!
Whats the cheapest version and pencil ?
I love this! Thank you! My dream its to be tattoo artist and recently got my ipad
Would love to know what grip this is on the pencil, great vid.

Is there alternative dupes for the spit shade technique the brushes are quite pricey

Would be awesome to learn how to make the moving effects for your intro fonts! 👀
thats a great idea! be on the look out ill try to get a video going on that when I can!

UNIQUE
What is the name of the brush that u use to fill and what the brush that look like with the procreate starting kit brushes ?
if I remember correctly I think I used the "no use this to paint" brush from the tattoo smart spit shade kit to do the painting!
@@bigtextutorials Can i have tips of how you Spitshade in procreate because for me hard to fade the ink I always end to mess up 😅🤦🏻
Thank you for your work 🙏🏻
hey thanks!, I like to know how do you change the color of the paper, im using the spotshade set and is not white as yours, how can I do it? thanks!

Was wondering which paper your using from spitshade?
I think it's called "plain"
What setting did you use to imprint the texture onto the artwork? I’ve can’t seem to get it to look the same. Thanks
I usually use a combination of screen and linear burn at 20% opacity. sometimes I use multiply, depending on what looks best
Do you feel the ipad air is more than sufficient for drawing as opposed to the pro?
the iPad Air is great. i updated to the pro because I like having a larger screen but the drawing experience feels about the same to me
Great video! I have been using procreate for about 4 years and i know a lot about it, it never knew how to get that perfect spit shade gradient. Great job!
thank you! it took me so long to really figure out how useful the smudge tool is

yeah it does get pricy. i'm working on trying to find a cheaper/free alternative. if I find anything super helpful ill make a video about it soon!
Is that a snoopy key holder? Or what is it? It’s so cute !
its an AirPods case!
Very good ❤
Hey man, where did you buy this grip for your Apple Pencil?

Hey man, that white texture didn’t come with my spit shade set. just textures labeled 1-32. any tips?
