      Refusing to work with a party ELECTED by the people is a democracy, that sure sounds like autocratic rule resisting democracy.

    For those who don't know, Björn Höcke studied history and worked as a history teacher for years. Combined with his extreme right wing position (and corrolated interest in nazi history) he definitely knew exactly what he was saying.

      For the same reasons one can surmise that he knew what to avoid to say but tripped over overreaching german laws (Gummiparagraph) anyways. "Everything for X" is such a broad and non-offensive patriotic phrase that used literally anywhere else regarding to anything else wouldn't be a problem, those laws there are nonsensical and are borderline newspeak laws. The three first letters of that "problematic phrase" coincide with the party letters "AfD", so that's maybe the reason he chose the phrase in the first place. But of course depending on where one stands on the political spectrum everyone has their own immovable opinion and their own "truth" about these events, so this is just food for thought.

    • @joschmo4497
      @joschmo4497 Месяц назад

      What is really happening is literally everyone from left to right, except HDZ voters want Andrej Plenković dethroned. HDZ can realistically only form government in coalition with DP (Domovinski Pokret/Homeland Movement) BUT on the condition that Andrej Plenković is not prime minister, and some other conditions as well but that one is an absolute.
      What Croatian people clearlly expressed on these elections is they do not want the left wing. DP is the real success story here, they're sovereignists who will not accept the woke, they're clearly against mass migration, they are not against EU cooperation but they do not wish for further integration (federalization). And HDZ will realistically have to respect that if they want to form government. Either way, all this spells the end for Andrej Plenković, we will have to see how that will reflect on the long term popularity of HDZ.

    Croatian here, let me tell you what will happen, couple possible scenarios:
    The ruling party, HDZ(Hrvatska Demokratska Zajednica/Croatian Democratic Party) can only form government if they make a coalition with the DP (Domovinski Pokret/Homeland Movement) who are adamant that they will not accept such a coalition if the current prime minister remains, that is one of their condition, their campaign banked on it. They will also be demanding to have their way in terms of migration and a bit more euroskepticism. Basically they see the prime minister as a traitor because of his concessions to Serb minority which helped him form the government. They would likely accept a coalition where Ivan Anušić, the current vicepresident (who enjoys great political support more broadly in Croatia, through his whole career), is a prime minister.
    The other way that a government is formed is a union of all minority vote parties, which is so incredibly unlikely that it might as well not be an option. They would have to bring in polar opposites who already stated it's not going to happen. DP says under no circumstances will they be a part of any government with Možemo (which is a woke party all about feminism, LGBT and such, socialists). So that is out of question. It would be one Frankeinstein's monster of a government where they can't agree on much.
    Finally, a real possibility is that we go to elections again, and then I don't know what happens. Either way, this is not good for the prime minister Andrej Plenković, the whole opposition from both the left and the right was based around having him gone. Pretty much all of them see as a hurdle, whereas some parties would form a coalition with HDZ (which are only nominally demochristian, in practice they've supported many leftist resolutions which are unacceptable to DP).
    Here's the problem, HDZ recovered its popularity largely on the back of one person, and that's Andrej Plenković, the current prime minister, who already won 2 terms before.
    EDIT: As for steering Croatia away from supporting Ukraine? Not gonna happen, that'd be wildly unpopular, and HDZ will absolutely not form a coalition with SDP. HDZ has no reason to do so, they would have to make much smaller concessions to DP to form a government.

    • @PeoplecallmeLucifer
      @PeoplecallmeLucifer Месяц назад +1

      ther eis a possibility here ... although unlikely (but this is balkans so don't rule it out)
      give DP minsitry of defense, ministry of defenders and maybe something else (agriculture or foreign affairs)
      give možemo Minsitry of health or culture
      Most gets industry and tourism
      ... These are jsut fro mthe top of my head but Milanović is smart. he can offer these parties things they find important which might get them to tolerate each other fora t least a year or two in which they can dismantle HDZ (who, as a criminally convicted organization SHOULD HAVE been dismantled when they were convicted)

      @yourneighbourhooddoomer Месяц назад +4

      One can hope for your first described scenario, also this fearmongering about "abandoning Ukraine" in regards to every party being right of the current overton window is the same nonsense as anywhere else in Europe and should be disregarded.

    • @joschmo4497
      @joschmo4497 Месяц назад

      @@PeoplecallmeLucifer Well, if DP doesn't hold their word, that will be their political demise, and they know it. Everywhere in the world, politicians go back on certain promises, but this is the core of the party, so I don't see it happening.
      As for "This is Balkans", I don't appreciate that sentiment, especially considering we've never had such Frankenstein governments here in Croatia. Negotiations and compromises are normal and necessary in multi-party systems, otherwise you never form a government.
      This is perfectly normal part of democracy people have to learn to be pragmatic. It's a democracy, you can't satisfy everyone, no matter what you said in your election campaign, those are ideals, it's up to the people to say what is an absolute non negotiable core they voted for.
      As for Milanović, he's not a wizard. He would have to get SDP, DP, Možemo and Most in a coalition. There's cynicism, and there's just a next level of not gonna happen. Just DP and Možemo have their hearts set on same issues, expecting radically different outcomes. Basically only SDP wants to work with them.

    • @joschmo4497
      @joschmo4497 Месяц назад +2

      @@yourneighbourhooddoomer Yeah and it's getting tiring. Not everything is about Ukraine, not everything is about Israel, it's just pushing bias for foreigners who are too lazy to think or care.
      I do hope for the first scenario, I voted for DP, and I'm realistic so I always knew this was gonna happen, HDZ winning most mandates, but not enough to form majority. I absolutely won't hold it against them if they form coalition with HDZ, you gotta be pragmatic and say it's better that they get some of what they want than none.
      The last thing I want to see is the Polish scenario where majority of people do not want the left wing, but they win because of the fractured right wing. (Although calling HDZ right wing is so absurd, there's nothing right about them)

    First of all, thanks for covering the Croatian parliamentary elections results, albeit briefly, and for mentioning the monthly wage of €1240, one of the lowest in the EU, the and voting turnout of 60%, way above the 47% in 2020.
    Now, Milanovic is popular indeed, but mostly in an ambiguous way: not only he has behaved poorly towards Ukraine and Finland, but on January he also publicly outed a member of the HDZ - on April, Zagreb Pride outed the very same person along with two more of the same party. Grbin condemed ZP's shameful action, but the damage was already done. This is not a minor event: if the HDZ did the same, the uproar would've been tremendous - as it should be... but it wasn't. Such attitudes speaks volumes of the hypocrisy of the progressivism in Croatia.
    You mention HDZ lost 6 seats, but do not mention that SDP won barely 2 seats -too few for such a big party.
    Anyway, thanks for the video. Cheers.

    From watching this, Slavic politics seems a little bit backwards to how it is over here in Canada. After learning about the Slovakian election, and now the Croatian election, it seems that the right over there is in support of Ukraine, while the left wants back out of the conflict. In Canada, our liberals and NDP tend to back Ukraine, while our conservatives tend to be very hesitant to support Ukraine, especially under Pierre Polivre, our representative of the far right movement sweeping the West. Anyone from a country where the right is more pro Ukraine than the left mind explaining why Eastern Europe seems to have their roles reversed compared to Canada on this issue?

    • @invidusspectator3920

      Its not really the case
      Its just that us Croats at least happen to have a lunatic in the presidential seat
      That enjoys spewing meaningless wank for shock value alone
      And its not so black and white
      I have many more colleagues who are voting right wing but also are extremely pro russia than left wingers
      If you want to go into deep
      technicality...
      I reckon its mostly
      Religion and Relationship with russia for the most part
      Right wing governments from poland to Slovakia to Croatia are often catering to the Catholic majorities of their countries
      And if you know anything about Catholics...
      Youll know a decent chunk of them arent a fan Orthodox Russia and seek to inconvenience it as much as possible
      Theres also a general distain for russia itself present across the east and for good reason
      Since Russia has been a nuisance at best and a genocidal world ender at worst for most of the people of eastern Europe
      In polish and slovak case
      Quite literally
      In the case of Croatia less so directly
      But since they see Russia was(and still is) supporting neighbouring Serbs, Croatia isn't a big fan
      And the Russian invasion of Ukraine in Croatian eyes looks painfully familiar to when the Serbs invaded.
      Dont take my word for it im no expert

    Presenting Croatia as poorest in EU and HDZ as ruling party is fallacy. All graphs show progress in the right direction from GDP to PPP to birth rates and corruption during HDZ rule. Yes we are still one of the poorest but we are growing in the right direction and considering geopolitical situation in the world I would say we are doing amazing. That is why HDZ won with big support. Only reason why they didn't get votes from far right as well is their illegal immigration policy that is similar to (EPP in EU).
