Picked 3~ I agree cotton does use a lot of water, but it's irresponsible farmers that aren't considerate or were ignorant of how it could impact the environment on a mass scale. I'm not surprised the dust bowl happened as a consequence of so many people capitalizing with cash crops like cotton. We're seeing similar effects with California, which years ago decided to capitalize on alfalfa, which actually uses even more water than cotton. Not surprising that fires happened recently due to a drought due to many factors. Such as negligence of over use (LA = sin city = we're using resources in excess to the point of outsourcing it outside of our state= 'nuff said). We can try other alternatives, but when you consider population, costs, etc. you can only do so much until you run into x factor that may not be avoidable. Like even though cotton itself can be a problem growing, when it comes to clothes it's still 100x better than incorporating plastics that can be harmful to, not just the environment, but skin as well. Same with paper where it's still 100x better than your smart phone or computer, which has things like battery acid, and uses power such as nuclear waste. Just didn't appreciate the mild hate on cotton when it's not cottons fault lol and there are worse alternatives despite the idiotic statistics telling us otherwise when they're biased to begin with. I think if we actually are more considerate of regions, what size scale would best fit so we can provide a surplus rather than a detriment, and had the right people with the right mindframe we'd make a significant difference that wouldn't just keep things like cotton in place and better circulated. That's me and my opinion of course, but felt the need to say it nonetheless as there are people around the world making that difference. Even if we don't hear enough, it's there if you look for it. Like people helping to eliminate invasive species, and actually helping old deforested areas grow back to what they were originally were for the ecosystem ❤ Going to the reading, you're most likely accurate about the environmental part 😂 cause I obviously had a moment 🙃 and wouldn't really get along with others who'd clearly feel differently. Not everyone has the gift to grow, but it doesn't mean their heart isn't in the right place. Sometimes, people have a great gift in something in a similar field, but don't have the same opportunities to express it, such as farming with animals which is still an important field of interest for various reasons.
