I’m trying my hand with a red and Yellow Sea fan. You referenced dry powder foods in the video, what would those be (brands or ingredients to look for)? I use both reef roofs and coral feast currently. Would those do the trick? Of course while adding some some other foods as well, such as phyto feast or something like that.
I was watching some lectures where a scientist suggested current thinking is the azooxanthellate octocorals eat marine snow. Perhaps bacteria and phytoplankton too- and I saw a video suggesting bacteria/probiotic dosing was key to keeping colonial ascidians. Probably both bacteria and marine snow since octocorals are found in very deep water where phytoplankton should be sparse. Fortunately it turns out you can buy marine snow! Who would have thought
I want to try one, I have an established filterless, skimmer less, filter feeder set up. I have happy mussels, clams, and coral. If I can keep NPS bivalves do I have a shot?
This is my goal. I want to make a Pacific twilight reef tank with anthias, centropyge, and azooxanthellate gorgonians. Maybe some Porites and christmas tree worms. also it would be my first saltwater tank lol. At least I have a degree in marine microbiology!
I have my first NPS . Not opened yet as it’s only been 1 day. Is Marin Snow enough or do I need to add more different foods. Please help I want to be successful
I have a 14 gallon mixed reef that caters to NPS corals and filter feeders such as gorgonians goniopora (green short tentacle) and electric flame scallops. I use ecosystem miracle mud and a 24/7 lit fuge with caulerpa. The key I think to keeping these creatures is the feeding. I feed reef chilli and dry phyto twice a week and baby brine shrimp for the other organisms (nano fish mandarin goby peppermint shrimp) 3 times a week. Everything does quite well only problems are algae so make sure your clean up crew is strong or run a skimmer (not recommended if catering to NPS organisms)
The bottom of my purple calenabara is like pealing I just got the frag a week ago and some of the frag had coral on it now it’s all a sudden pieces are falling off of the frag does anyone know about this? Please let me know
I use your videos as references for my first reef aquarium. Need to say thank you and keep up the great work
Thanks Than, your the first place I go to research any coral before I buy :)
Keep up the good work, Thanks again
I went snorkeling in Belize. The sea fans were so beautiful
Awesome video Than! Gorgonians are some of our favorite corals. They seem to grow well on our dry jellyfish food, which is interesting.
Great camera work and good advice Than. Thanks for sharing.
Martin
Thanks guys!
Got our first purple whip yesterday, at a petco of all places!
Had a long paragraph, but deleted it and summerized it with thank you! Lol
what would you say is minimal tank size for sea fans? I have a 180litre (about 40gallons I think) 3ft tank with a fairly strong powerhead
Excellent video as usual. very enjoyable. Could you tell me the top three photosynthetic gorgs with the best colour?
Cheers
Simon
NPS gorgs are amazing
They are amazing.
Hi , have you found any decent food for the blue gorgonian ? Thanks . UK based

How about compatibility with other corals? Are they passive or aggressive?
Stunning!
Do i have to dip the non photosynthetic before I put in my tank?

If you get a photosynthetic one and put it in bright light with decent flow you should.
if there are any photosynthetic gorgonians in the pacific, what are they called?
***** yeah! what are they called?specific names?
I really appreciate your videos Than, thank you.

it has been a few years after this video is posted, is this coral still considered impossible to keep?
From what I can tell not any more, photosynthetic gorgonians seem to be kept more and can do very well.
Thank you!
I heard that these are 'aggressive' is that true or just be cautious about sliming?
Bret Crane . Not aggressive. They slime to shed the skins

hey there, how is your tank going recently?

Ha, worlds apart. I like the pun.
0:09 please say "Sea Whips" again 😆
