dude, been a fan of yours since 20 some odd years ago when I saw an obscure little post apocalyptic rock and roll fable called six string samurai. and you're a fan of my childhood game? awesome!
Can't wait for the Infinity and Eternal X ones (use the rain effects version of the WAD for the latter). There's also Liacrow's Marathon Redux (think Brutal Doom Extermination Day and Halo SPV3 for Marathon) Tempus Irae and Tempus Irae 2: The Lost Levels. Personally I like the swimming in this game as it handles better than Build Engine games, but the criticism is still completely valid as it's no Half Life. There also should have been music like the main theme in quality in the levels as well as ambience. The sullen silence is boring, as the ambience isn't like Tomb Raider which has different ambience sounds done a similar way to constant music with the actual music being saved for special occasions. Marathon 2 and Infinity should have done what Eternal does, which is have both ambience and music together. Lia actually gave me a copy of the Windows 95 version WAD for Aleph One with new special effects like fog and it implements fan made music too. Pretty damn good music as well. The downside is that the copy she gave me is protected from sharing which is a shame, but she did say a while ago on a rampancy.net stream that she might release the WAD to everyone else as well. I hope Infinity receives similar treatment, but I didn't ask about that recently. EDIT: Found out I can at least share the link.
Here's the Special Edition version of the Marathon 2 Windows WAD with music and such that Liacrow gave me. drive.google.com/open?id=1RSPYLyc6WZR_q0A0r6z177AZmY1HKQfc Here's the music files for the same WAD: simplici7y.com/items/marathon-2-special-edition-soundtrack-in-mp3-format
Great version I played for hours. You missed the fact that this game had true physical stereo. If you turn you can hear the sound move from one ear to another.
14:37 …both of those computers are Macs. The one on the right has a non-Apple monitor, but it is still a Mac. The IR receiver makes me think it's in the Performa line.
I've had all three games since they were released. While they still ran on Mac Classic OS I found cheats that could enhance weapons, so the first thing I did was MAKE THAT RIFLE ACCURATE! When I go into a firefight I don't want something that couldn't hit a barn door even when I'm INSIDE the frakking barn! I made my missiles fly faster, my pistols got a bit more punch. the fusion pistol bolts fly faster and the grenade launcher - well, let's just say that I make sure that I'm not in the same room when they go off... The good new was when Mac OSX came along and some genius developed Aleph all my cheats made the transfer - except when playing Marathon Infinity and any third party games made for it. Got to take the rough with the smooth, I guess. I've had all three Marathons forever and I still get a kick out of them and all the third party games that are still available.
RUFUS!'s Video Game Graveyard we want Infiniti baby! Great vid btw loved Marathon. Us Mac people didn’t have much to hang our hats on in the mid 90’s, and the Marathon Trilogy was one of the best things we had.
Nope - Bungie did release the source code from the original game back in 2000, but the Aleph One engine was built entirely by dedicated fans (and hats off to them).
What’s curious is that aleph one runs I think at 30 FPS, while the XBLA version runs at 60 iirc. Or at least i remember the XBLA running a lot smoother.
The Marathon engine is entirely based on running at 30fps. I've read that for XBLA they hacked it to handle 60fps, but it caused an insane amount of bugs and crashes. Aleph One never bothered to try boosting the frame rate for that exact reason, so the computer version is stuck at 30fps. Choppy as hell but my brain got over it after a couple of levels.
@@RUFUSsVideoGameGraveyard I know I got used to it myself. Also, wow I didn’t expect you to respond. Quick question, feelings of a fan made marathon remake but it’s a mod for system shock enhanced edition?
@@RUFUSsVideoGameGraveyard to me it would make sense. Maybe redesign the levels too so that they make a little more sense. M1’s level design is... well... at least you don’t have to figure out to wear a red cape in a sealed room to prevent being suffocated. But still, it’s early Bungie.

@The Oklahoma Bachelor No but I'm planning to check them out when I'm done with the OG series.
Legend says if Rufus sees his shadow we have 6 more videos in the year but if he doesn't we only get 1.
I'm so glad you uploaded! I literally just started watching your content and I absolutely love it. Please never stop

I loved your work on the soundtrack in Far Cry 3.
When the theme is hype but the game even exceeds your expectations set by it
When the theme is shit and the game even exceeds your expectations set by it
@@gastroacid1971I wouldn’t say the theme is shit lol it just sounds like something I’d hear in like elementary school PE class
Dude awesome video thanks so much this was my favorite game as a kid lots of great memories here.

Definitely the best game in the trilogy. Has great replay value.
You’re on drugs. The music was one of Marathon’s best features.
Annoyed the piss outta me. But that's just my opinion man.
@@RUFUSsVideoGameGraveyard Options: Am I a joke to you?
Still respect your opinion bro.
Great review, can't wait to see your thoughts on Infinity
REVIEW INFINITY ALREADY!!! And explain all the terminals and shit, you got a GREAT grasp of the story bro.
Thanks! Working on it, stay tuned.
The best part about this game was downloading a physics model editor and giving yourself the most ridiculous, over-powered weapons you could think of.
Recently found your channel and binged your vids. Fucking GEM of a channel dude.

Rufus have you heard the news bungie is making a new marathon game!
I hope your gonna post a marathon: infinite soon. Your channel deserves way more viewers.
Thanks! I'm actually working on Infinity right now.
GREAT review. Love your style, and your treatment of one of my favorite games. Looking forward to more!
"FROG BLAST THE VENT CORE!!!" LOL WTF
I played this when it was released, on my Performa 450 with a whopping 2MB video ram
Durandal had exactly one song and Bungie made sure it went hard as fuck lmao
Good shit. subbed and clicked the bell

so, are you going to talk about infinity?
Eventually, yes.

Yey
I feel the shot gun got it's inspiration from terminator 2
Checks out - T2 1991, M2 1994. The Bungie staff definitely all watched it!

S'pht and former B.O.B. slaves: "You've freed us!"
Durandal: "Oh I wouldn't say 'freed.' More like 'under new management.'"
So why couldn’t Durandal just explain the Pfor threat instead of trying to murder you?
You should play on total carnage
I should. But I am not yet a true Vidmaster. Just a fan.

Spoiler Alert!
Basically all of Marathon 2's story is retconned in Infinity.
