So I have a 2021 Polaris EV and one day had it pointed down hill and needed to backup in 4wd. So I engaged it and backed up, no problem. THEN I switched to forward without disengaging the 4wd and all sorts of noise started coming out of the front diff for 30 seconds as I decended a hill. So I turned off the 4wd and noise subsided. But now the front diff is noiser than it used to be. And after watching your video, I am thinking that with a polaris, each time you change from moving forward to backward, disengaging and then re-engaging the front diff should be done so the sprague control disc that is magnetically attracted to the friction surface, can rotate appropriately to be in forward or reverse engagement of sprague and rollers. I think this is a significant issue not mentioned in the manual anywhere about how the front diff works and why when changing direction it should be disengaged and re-engaged. I should change the oil and look for damage and am sad that I may have not used it correctly and caused myself some costs and now should do some repair work. I'd like to replace plastic parts in the diff and make it robust for a decade, plastic seems like a bad idea in a very high stress mechanical part.
just ordered a harness. I also want to rebuild my front diff, just to beef it up for desert races I do. preventive maintaince. I subscribed and hit like
Great video, I’m bypassing the ground switch on my Ranger right now. I can tap on the ECM and then the awd works.. chassis ground should fix my problem
Your problem is you don't have the springs to hold the rollers out into the slots in the ring gear. only the bottom rollers are engaging due to gravity. That's your popping sound. the rollers are slipping from one slot to the next because not enough are engaged to handle the torque. The spring is there do provide on demand 4 wheel drive. Something my 2008 RZR 800 doesn't have. Good video but your problem is lack of springs. The harness won't help you. I know this is an old video, hopefully you figured it out.
Hi Im having same issue with my front diff. popping when hitting hills. Did HD Extreme Offroad Harness take care of the problem? before I order one for my polaris highlifter 1000xp I Subscribed to your channel and like your video Thanks for subscribing to my channel.
Hey! It did seem to fix the problem so far. He has only been out a few times but hasn’t noticed any more popping. Thanks for subscribing and sorry it’s taken so long to respond back to ya!
@@redneckoutdooradventures4537 did It fix your issues? I also have popping from the front diff on my XP1000 after FULLY upgrading all internals its still happening. was wondering if this might help me as well
Old Man Jeeping and Biking Yes. The HD Extreme Tru Loc Harness fixed my issue with the popping in front diff. I would not even run yours anymore till you can get it and install it. I broke my diff right after first rebuild without the harness. So save your diff till you get it

Ground issues is the awd cause for not engaging ??? I have a 2013 900 and and just stopped working

Great video man! You did to forget at the end to mention to put diff fluid back into it, lol.
Haha thanks!! The oil is more of a guideline then a rule haha
Nice work!

So if one left that spring for the neutral it would stay engaged in 4 wheel down hill on engine break?
Who sells the harness for the on and off switch ??
Thank you
on my rzr, i have to take my foot, off the gas to engage. same to disengage, if under load it will not come out of 4 wheel drive
all by design..
