    "Sylvanas, who hurt you." .... well .... Arthas

    • @SleepyFen
      @SleepyFen 6 лет назад +5

      "Arthas" is exactly right. She wants her revenge on the humans for what their prince did to her and her people. The fact that the Alliance stands in the way of her goal makes them targets as well. The humans (Arthas) made her what she is.

      @@konyadake1602 you dont get it, Arthas chased after the sword and armor of the LK after he was warned on what it will do, he didn't care, and cause he didn't care it lead to millions of deaths. thats her Hate, thats her pain, she protected humans and elves and was betrayed by the human race cause they didn't stand against Arthas and stop him from going after what cursed him.

      People always want to bring up Gilneas, but they forget three important things. First, she was under orders to attack it. Second, she allowed non-combatants to escape. Third, "salting the Earth" aka plaguing the city was the Forsaken's revenge for Gilneas doing nothing and hiding behind their wall when Arthas took Lordaeron. Sylvanas DID NOT attempt to kill every man, woman, and child in Gilneas, she let tons of them escape. This is different... it's like she's gone full crazy/stupid, because there was nothing to really gain from burning the tree. What I do like is that both Saurfang and Baine had words with her about the dishonor of it all... what I dislike is that Lor'themar has said nothing, and frankly he should hate it the most because the exact same thing was done to the blood elves, just by Arthas and later Garithos and even Jaina in the purge of Dalaran.

    • @kylekane3106
      @kylekane3106 6 лет назад +9

      The orcs did worse things to the Alliance during the first and second wars, than Sylvanas has done in her undeath. The orcs pillaged entire villages, burned stormwind and had the intention of taking Lordaeron. When Sylvanas was told to take Gilneas, she subtly told Garrosh that she take it for the Horde, saying it would be a great out post for maritime warfare. Garrosh agreed, tasking her with the siege of Gilneas, but to not use the plague. She did so anyway. But now with Teldrassil, that is the same thing as the plague in Gilneas except the people would be burned to death instead of void of life.

    "Your home..you desecrate that throne wiTH YOUR FILTH!" this part shook me up so much. As a Warcraft player from the beginning, if there is one kingdom that I feel strongly to..its Lordaeron. And the fact that Genn feels that strongly towards the throne of Lordaeron really signals a massive shift in his character. Genn always felt Gilneas was the strongest human nation, and that they were doing Lordaeron and the others a charity for helping when the Orcs invaded, reluctantly. Even further, he sealed his kingdom off while Lordaeron was ravished with undeath, to the screams of civilians shouting for refuge at the Greymane wall. His ego is gone, he is showing regret for his actions, its nice to see him passionate towards a destroyed monument of human civilization, that isn't his own.

    I would like to point out the following.
    Sylvanas: At the start of the battle she evacuated her people even when she was sure they would win. When things went south she was the LAST to leave the UC.
    Tyrande: When the battle of Darkshore started decided that they were so powerful they would win and didn't evacuate anyone. At the first sign of trouble (Malfurion's injury) turned tail and hearthed the Stormwind.
    The Night Elves had plenty of time to evacuate that tree, but decided to let their egos prevent them from thinking they could lose. The people who died in the fire, their blood is on Tyrande's hands.

  • @kristofferstoa8585
    @kristofferstoa8585 6 лет назад +13

    The plot is based on the fact that she predicted the siege of lordaeron when she burned the tree on a whim to snuff out hope (after Saurfang failed his duty). That is why the entire Horde side is basically one big evacuation of the city. The plague trap at the end is not really that horrible, its scorched earth tactics that has been used several times during warfare. She is giving up her home willingly, but she is not going to let anyone else have it either.

    • @SleepyFen
      @SleepyFen 6 лет назад +1

      To be fair, she's also dead-set on getting her revenge on the humans for what their prince did to her and her people. If it means killing a few allies and civillians, she won't think twice. Her end-goal is to put Stormwind to the torch and turn the humans into Forsaken - part of her might even call it a mercy, being reunited with their fallen kin in undeath.

    She's following her character development since Cataclysm. She blighted Gilneas and took much pleasure in it, attempting to find survival and a place for the Forsaken. Same with the Stormheim storyline, where she trapped Eyir was was going to steal what I can only assume was immortality or some form of life. Everything she is doing is to save her people, to find their place in the world.

He never takes initiative when he sees an injustice. he waits for someone else to stand up for what he believes in, then he follows them. he isnt a leader. he is a follower.

    Just a quick recap here. Sylvanas was driven, but not devoid of empathy, while she was seeking to destroy Arthas. She actually cared for the undead as she identified with their plight (as it was the same as hers). She even became obsessed with finding a way to have the undead "procreate". After the fall of Arthas she felt there was no longer any reason to continue her cursed existence. She threw herself off the Frozen Throne and landed on saronite(the blood of the old god made metal). As she died(again) she saw nothing but horror and darkness awaiting her (perhaps a false vision from the old gods). She was approached by Valkyrie who offered to save her before she succumbed completely to death. She is now driven to stay alive at any costs and has become bitter as her existence has become what it is: bleak and pointless beyond staying alive(at least this is what she has come to believe). This has led her to a rather bleak view that the the only purpose to be found is through strife, by creating or overcoming it. How much the old gods play into this whole situation is unclear, but I guarantee they will be making an appearance as the story-line progresses.

  • @LordBloodraven

    I know a lot of people were worried that Jaina was going crazy like Sylvannas.
    Just remember, her youth had been spent abandoning her friends and home by running away from the fight. First she fled to Kalimdor, abandoning Lordaeron and leaving Arthas to continue down the path that led to him becoming the Lich King. Then, when her father's fleet waged war against the Horde, rather than pick a side, she ran again and her father died.
    Now, the doubts of whether or not she could have made a difference give her clarity in with these new battles.
    Now, she's done running away.

    • @valeryivanishin483
      @valeryivanishin483 6 лет назад +6

      First time she "ran away" into fight against the burning legion and protected the world tree. Her father was a ptsd maniak who had to be put down. Theramor was destroyed only because it became an alliance invasion point into the barrens, not because "lol dumb human helped us once - lets screw her over".

    • @Servellion
      @Servellion 6 лет назад +8

      Problem is when it came to her father, she was right. Daelin was consumed by hatred and was willing to grind his forces to dust trying to eradicate them. He outright usurped Theramore from Jaina to do this.

      Dearie, Sylvanas is not crazy. The policy of the alliance is crazy. When they began to attack the mining sites of Azerit. This is very similar to modern politics, when one state intervenes in the affairs of the second, and when the response measures follow, it screams for justice.But Silvana has "balls" to give a hard answer. I'm an alliance player and I'm sick of rats alliance policy. I'll transfer my main caracter for the horde. For the horde! And for the my new queen!

    • @AzoRevan
      @AzoRevan 6 лет назад +4

      Needless to say, you're completely wrong, and contradicted not only by the in-game, but by the written material too. Sylvanas wanted this war. She wanted to capture Teldrassil, but she thought she was too smart for her own good, and thought she could break both the nightelves AND Saurfang AND the Alliance at the same time. Too many traps at once, too many goals, and she accomplished nothing of what she set out to do. Now she's sitting on a barely supressed civil war (Saurfang is keeping the lid on it for now), granted the Alliance a revanchist cassus beli, and severely misjudged even the Horde's willingness to go through with war crimes. Your new queen will be deposed soon. By your own new people. Hope you'll help them, or get blighted by Sylvanas when she gets tired of your uselessness.

    Sylvanas's story is a pretty common story-type, its a cycle of trauma that began with Arthas. Arthas made the same compromises to save his own and that led to his fall. Along the way, Sylvanas was one of his many victims. Her way of overcoming that trauma has tragically led her down the same path as Arthas, it didn't have to, but her path was one of the ways that characters can act in that situation.

      The "morally grey" thing needs to stop. Blizzard never once said Sylvanas or her actions were morally grey. Ion said Warcraft was a world of more greys than absolute black or white. It's the fandom that pinned the whole "morally grey" thing on Sylvanas and claiming Blizzard doesn't know how to do their job.

    Wowhead has a nifty collection of lore bits from the novels, including an argument between her and Saurfang that hints at the motivation being, "Make the world one kingdom, and make it Undead." While I don't do it justice, if that's what they're aiming at here, then I can definitely see the "morally grey" bit.

    • @pwnulater

    • @SleepyFen
      @SleepyFen 6 лет назад +9

      Navhkrin she's 'simply' making the humans pay for what their prince and king did to her and the people she was sworn to protect. Sylvanas's entire existence is practically nothing but torment, and the only afterlife that awaits her is filled with more of the same. Her end goal is more or less to destroy Stormwind and turn its inhabitants into Forsaken. Only when the humans all share her tormented existence will the scales be balanced.
      Sylvanas doesn't really care about the Horde and only allied with it out of convenience and necessity to ensure that she and her Forsaken followers could live in relative peace after the Alliance wanted little or nothing to do with them. She only remotely cares about the Forsaken - who share her existence - and the Blood Elves, her old people. She'll happily sacrifice Horde forces and civilian lives if it hurts the humans and those who would help defend their capital.
      The only reason she has any claim to the position as Warchief is because Vol'jin chose her. This is also pretty much the only reason why the other Horde faction leaders haven't turned against Sylvanas yet - because they respect Vol'jin's decision. But so far, Sylvanas has done nothing but prove everyone's worst doubts and fears, and this to the point where even old soldier Saurfang is starting to doubt his warchief.

    Sylvanas just used some actual war tactic, called 'scorched earth' . If you can't win destroy everything the enemy could somehow use for themself. Her trap failed, but she left the Alliance leaders with nothing but dead people and nothing to gain. I think she played her cards better than in the burning of Teldrasil event^^

  • @SleepyFen
    @SleepyFen 6 лет назад +3

    Sylvanas will do whatever it takes to get her revenge on the humans - and by the extension, the Alliance - for what Arthas did to her and her people. She has no interest in being Warchief save using the Horde army as a means to further her plans of destroying Stormwind. That she was chosen by Vol'jin is extremely interesting since, so far, she has only proven everyone's doubts and fears about her taking the position. Many of the other horde leaders do not like where she is leading them, but they stay loyal solely out of respect for Vol'jin's choice as well as tradition.
    Everything Sylvanas has done so far has been entirely within character. Now that she finally has her revenge within grasping range, she's taking joy in what she does.

The big issue was that Undercity and by extension the horde was right next door and since that's not a problem anymore now would be the perfect time to reclaim it and rebuild it. It's a very good spot with great access to the sea which is more relevant now than ever before since we're going to kul tiras. It would also just be really cool to see the Gilneans now return the favor to the night elves and take them in during their time of need!

    I must say though, replaying WC3 lately Sylvanas is kinda snarky even before she became a banshee :) I think one of Blizzards biggest mistakes with Sylvanas in general is that she didn't have much screen time before now, I hear alot of people calling her cold and calculated yet in all the side media that was never really an image that got portrayed, I for one atleast see no cold calculations in her suicide when she jumps off of Icecrown performing a Saruman dive onto spikes :P I am glad that the direction the story has taken has spurred such hot feelings in the player base, even if I personally would've loved seeing Sylvanas going a different route, all she has done sofar to me atleast feels very much in line of the character she was portrayed as in all the media outside WoW (again that's an issue) love the vid though and am looking forward to BfA :D

    People call her a villain but how often are the undead ever seen as hero’s? What other race can say their existence was originally started purely out of evil? What “good” way is there for us to exist? We cannot have children. Each and every member of the Forsaken had a life amongst a the living at some point and passed on. We were then raised and given a choice to stay within the fold and follow our Dark Lady or venture out on our own into a world that will hate us purely for existing.
    We tried to join the Alliance but were seen as abominations no different than the creatures controlled by the lich king. Amongst the Horde we are allowed to exist, but are often used as front line cannon fodder because we are already dead. Our number are not infinite, we are not immortal, or immune from being wounded. You tell us to do what is honorable but our existence isn’t that simple because no one would choose to exist like this. To keep from extinction we must rip new souls from the grave and put them on the path of damnation. It is not pleasant, it is not joyful, it is a fact of life for us.
    We are the Forsaken. You see our Dark Lady’s action and vile and villainous. We see them as those of a leader who’s grown tired of having hers and her people existence objected too. We are the Forsaken and we will keep moving forward.

    • @Scottoest
      @Scottoest 6 лет назад

      I don't understand the idea that Forsaken even need to "procreate". If the life of the undead is an accursed one of damnation, then why would you put other people unwillingly on that path? Why not just live if you want to live, for as long as you can, and then if your "people" eventually die out, then all the better - because it means no more people have to suffer what you did?
      "We need more of us" isn't an explanation, it's an action. Forsaken are essentially sentient zombies, who already lived lives as other races, then died. There's no reason they need to make more, and no moral justification for doing so. "It's a fact of life for us" is an epic dodge of responsibility for what they are doing to people who have died and are at rest.
      I completely understand why current Forsaken don't want to just kill themselves - go and live for as long as you can live - but it makes no sense why they need to create more. Humans procreate because we age and die.
      If you're a Forsaken of sound mind and moral grounding, you should WANT to see your "race" eventually die out, because it means no one else has to go through what you've gone through. By raising more, you're just expanding the suffering for selfish ends.

    • @Scottoest
      @Scottoest 6 лет назад +1

      This just reinforces the utterly immoral, indefensible position of Sylvanas and the Forsaken. "I need more arrows for my quiver" is not a moral position. Creating more eternally cursed, damned zombies for strategic reasons, is not a moral position. It's evil. You're taking people peacefully at rest, and not only forcefully conscripting them into an army they never chose, but essentially damning their souls for all time in the process. I can think of nothing more evil.

Also, she's not crazy - she planned for every contingency and even when everything went pear shaped due to Jaina's brilliant intro she still had a proper retreat planned. The fact that the retreat was pulled off by risking her life makes it even more commendable.

Compared to the near 1000 civilians Alliance players try to save. I was in the Beta, so I never saw these cinematics until I ran the Scenario today. Not gonna lie, Jaina's entrance was friggin' AWESOME! Like, someone edit it so "Shoot to Thrill" just plays full blast when the ship appears, that needs to be a thing. xD
    The throne room scene I was thinking Sylvanas was giving her bow to Nathanos to snipe Anduin or even Genn, just to give them some reason to retreat; no, blighting the entirety of Lordaeron makes more sense, it forces the Alliance back and denies them a foothold to stage an advance on Quel'Thalas. Whether that was ultimately the plan or not, I have no idea, but it was a smart move in any case. She and Alleria and (Crap, I forgot the third sister's name, I know there were three Windrunner, I can't name the third!) all came from Quel'Thalas, so it'd be no surprise if Sylvanas felt some deep connection to her home city still, even with her resentment for the living dominating her common sense.

    Sylvanas is a mere pawn, the moment she fell of icecrown and was impaled by saronite her mind was not her's anymore saronite the blood of yogg saron not only tears the body apart but corrupts the the soul as well, she constantly gets whispers like "They are coming for you..." and "Kill them all... before they kill you..." the battle for Azeroth is probably between two old gods

  • @badass6300

    IDK, this is totally what Sylvanas should do, this fits here character. And she does enjoy toying with her enemies. In warcraft 3 instead of killing Arthas when she ambushed him, she decided to poison him to give him a slow an painful death such as hers(as she described it) and then she toyed with the dread lord and that human general, I forgot his name.
    To me this is awesome and totally in character for her. She was being still and chill when the world threats were threatening the world, but now without any threats she is back to being herself.

    Are you missing the fact she said she is about the horde and the living she wants a long term peace not some peace cause the boy king wants it now.

    • @cardbutton892
      @cardbutton892 6 лет назад +6

      The "Horde and the Living" ... interesting choice of words. It didn't escape my notice which Horde races she primarily put on the front-lines ... then blighted and rezzed ... Long term peace, even if the Alliance falls, can that really happen within a faction that's held together primarily through a common enemy? I don't think she's so short-sighted as to overlook that issue. "We've payed the price for sharing this world" ... and the Forsaken will not share it with anyone. Down with the Living! For the Forsaken...

    • @OMartinez91
      @OMartinez91 6 лет назад +5

      rj Me i mean if Anduin wants peace now it is because the biggest baddie and the source of like 80% of the bad stuff on Warcraft was just beaten and there is not major reason to fight anymore, aside from the discovery of Azerite, and Anduin has always been about peace, so much so he is the only Alliance member to have been welcomed to Thunder Bluff

      I mean... no. No she doesn’t, she doesn’t care for peace at all, she has said as much and shown as much. I’m not sure if your just blinded by faction love or the love of the ass of an undead elf but either way she’s a genocidal maniac who has proven as much, time and time again, at this point your just fabricating things about her to make her look good.

      Johnathon Raleigh it is a war there is going to be death. She hasn’t burned storm wind down no she burned a tree that is on the same area as the hordes capital. All countries has established borders. The alliance can stay on their side.

      Oh, and his cousin was alive when he made this decision, by the way.

    Also note...including that moment in before the storm, that brief moment of hesitation when she handed him her bow was the third time we've seen Nathanos hesitate over her orders. It would be an interesting parallel...Alleria and Turalyon's relationship is becoming strained, and now it seems Nathanos and Sylvanas aren't quite as perfectly in tune either.
