Great Show and I agree with your points. I am very tired of grading companies altogether. The money grab point is the one reason I don't play the grading game. They have had 9.9 grades that could have been given out but they used that as an ace up their sleeves to get out of trouble with the scammers in and out of their companies. We will see the pendulum swing back to all Raw books, the way comics should have stayed, with a hope that dealers don't become sleazier than they already are by pricing raw books the same as graded books. I personally am collecting gold and silver age keys, and pulps as they are the best era's for comics. Bronze and copper have some gems but prefer the books of Antiquity best.

Last time i checked there is no option for 9.9 prescreen. RUclipsrs have taken a comment of context. Please reach out to CGC and ask. Also the form does not have an option for 9.9

Wow! I was just about to hit pause on the video and add MY main reason, when I heard it! Thanks for the mention. Until I gain a LOT more confidence that my comics won't be damaged during encapsulation, there's no way. And regardless, I think I'm done anyway. Just watch Momo Ono's video on a CGC "grading seminar" done at a convention he attended...it'll make you shudder. I've lost confidence that they take more than maybe 10-15 seconds to grade your comic. And then if it IS awesome, they'll stick it in a banana inner well, $%&! up the spine, and declare victory.
I'll give a pass on the fact that a 9.9 pre-screen may not officially exist yet. Momo Ono's got a LOT of company on RUclips with many other comic "influencers" saying the same stuff over the past several months. So, consider it a legitimate hypothetical--one that I never seriously entertained anyway for myself--for many of the stated points plus my own recent bad experiences--it's all good!

Hulk 180 first cameo of Wolverine
    Hulk 181 first full Wolverine
Hulk 182 second cameo of Wolverine, 1st Hammer & Anvil.
I had 3 comics graded when cgc first started but refuse to send any to them again. I sent them a Spidey 252 they sent it back as an 8.5 when it is much closer to a 9.0. If you're going to use two separate grade systems, they're cheating everybody under 9. Either use the .5 system for everything or .2 system for everything, choose one.

I'm not sending any books in for a 9.9 pre-screen because it doesn't exist. CGC still only pre-screens up to 9.8. The President made an off-hand remark about having a 9.9 pre-screen, but they have not added that as an option.

I just hate how much of a premium cgc cases add to a book, but the over all plastic durability and quality is such crap. There is very little quality control, they can't even bother to get the grade number centered properly within the frame quite often. I have a Lady Death with a scuff, I had a few drop from a small height and the sides busted open. I'm the only one who has a Samuree V2 #1 9.8 and now the case has been cracked open and the embossed cover has some moisture issue now... Secondly why do ALL comics rock around inside the case? Its so cheap! just go with CBCS, same quality and better price....

Ya when Matt Nelson said there could be some 9 9 in the 9 8 cases it definitely felt like it was incentivizing people to resubmit
Even if we ignored the Press & Clean process that whole CGC video of modern books sent directly to them had flaws and then they didn’t open the books
And that Giant Size X-men a lot of book that are $1,000+ are out of my affordability unless I save a long time but there’s so many better books I would’ve bought before that one
It’s getting laughable with these auction prices on books from the 70’s common books lower grade and signed copies that look better than that one
That 9 9 double cover Captain Marvel Jr only went for around $30,000 and it had a double cover and a 9 9 and for a golden age book to be a 9 9 how often do you see near perfect golden age books

I checked this week and there is no 9.9 prescreen option. My last submission I got one 9.9 and three 10s but they were Taylor Swift comic books, rest of the books got 9.8s. CGC is bias towards Taylor Swift and it's obnoxious, and what will I do with all these Lizzo comics? They won't even fit in the magazine sized CGC cases, smh.

Hell no am I resubmitting my 9.8s. 1. I can see the flaws on mine. Heck, I have a Batman Adventures #12 and there are several ticks on it. Shocked it even got the 9.8 and tempted to sell mine and try again for another because one of them is so large. 2. This change of heart for the 9.9s stunt CGC did made me pull the brakes on buying 9.8 keys for now. Saved up for an X-Men 101 or 129 but didn't buy it because if a 9.9 pops up on the census not sure how it will affect the price.
Turns out I used that saved money and bought a Four Color#4 CGC 5.0 that sold on Heritage last Sunday. Overall, I think I got an alright deal but I'd really like your opinion. On the good side, the front cover looks nice and the exact same issue sold for over $2500 more than what I paid for it back in 2018 (Been wanting that issue for a long time and didn't think I was going to win). The bad side is I think its over-graded. The grader notes show 2 out of the 3 staples are detached (Nervous thinking if that third one detaches) and the missing part of the back cover bothers me too. But that book is so rare not sure when I'll get another opportunity like that.
Honest opinion? Solid Deal or think it was an impulse buy?

9.9s are not flooding the market like it's being portrayed. There are more but it should have minimal effect on the 9.8 market. People cracking 9.8s and resubbing are going to be disappointed, 9.9s are arbitrary imo. It seems random from my experience and I have gotten 9.9s and 10s. Modern Marvel books with that cheap paper will probably never get a 9.9. Modern DC cardstock covers, possibly, I'm send some off soon.

Problem is they allow two minor flaws in a 9.8 and no flaws in a Gem Mint 10. So the 9.9 is for 1 minor flaw. They screwed the grading system from the jump.

What about pressing? Very skilled pressers do it, so they can disguise flaws and get higher grades. Would you like to be the owner of a graded book like that? That you know 'needed' to be pressed in order to get that grade? Or would you want to own a book that was actually flawless? There's a 'master presser' on youtube who got a 9.8 out of a book that got smashed in the mail. Everyone uses pressers too, even CGC has its own. So, what percentage of the 9.8 census for every book, is actually a lower grade book that has disguised a flaw through pressing? This inflates the census numbers, and brings down the prices of books. What's more, it shows an overvaluing of goods across the board, which is very much like what happened with the coin bubble (see Karl Jobst's 'Video game grading fraud' video...which shows that the current owners of Heritage were the ones who actually started the coin bubble).

Respect your opinion, but if you in the business are Comic book and you don’t go through CGC , you’re not gonna make any money leave it or not 9.9 if you can beat it join them because every 9.9 that I get that I don’t want to keep I sell for pretty good money and I used our money to get more books. Thanks for the video.

I can answer your title question “why I’m not submitting comics for CGC 9.9 prescreen”. It’s because there is NO 9.9 prescreen! This was based on a one time, off hand comment by the CGC president of a possible future development. But NOTHING ever happened. You made some valid points (at least at the beginning), but you lost a lot of credibility with that obvious misstatement.

I was wondering why so many 9.9s are popping up right now did they just change their grading standards? So momo is just not sending in 9.8s to try to get 9.9s I’m guessing?

    • @omarnagi3489
      @omarnagi3489 4 месяца назад

My guess is just an informal agreement at CGC that they have been treating the 9.8 as too much the default “top grade” all these years and it got too ridiculous why so few modern comics (and a small number of older) were getting higher than 9.8. This simply is a final admission that they have been grading the 9.8 and higher incorrectly. Hard to justify NO 9.9’s of Ultimate Fallout 4 out of 10’s of thousands of copies. My opinion is they were simply lazy and if book is NM+, they automatically defaulted to 9.8. My guess is Momo is not sending ANYTHING to CGC, let alone 9.8’s😛

They changed their grading standards but did it under the table. People are re-subbing after Nelson made a public statement about 9.9s and the GSXM #1 came up for sale. But I've noticed a lot of Gradeflation for comics 9.0 and above as well. 9.4s that should be 9.0s and 9.0s that should be 8.5s Collectors are incentivized to not only re-sub 9.8s but everything 8.0 and above. Great job building a new customer base CGC...😒

There is no such thing as 9.9 prescreen. It’s just people sending 9.8 prescreen now that they are actively looking for 9.9 where previously they would just slap a 9.8 on it.

@@jeffstanley6013 Yes, but people buying comics have no idea what will be valuable. (I mean new) When I bought comics in the 80s, I wasn't thinking long term value. THAT'S WHAT MADE SOME VALUABLE. If everyone hoarded and slabbed them, they would be as common as paper towels
