The Detective Pikachu actually has layers, because not only do the designs of the Sonic and Detective Pikachu movie characters and how they’re animated look similar, but it’s considered by many that the first Sonic movie and Detective Pikachu were the turning points of when live action video game movie adaptations starting becoming good (or at least better)!
@Syiepherze As one fan put it in a video, one reason why fans react that way is because of the status of SA2. We had SA1, SA2 and Shadow with Sonic 06 being dark in some nature. We then had a series of games while good, that felt certain aspects of those games were weirdly gone. It wasn't until this past Sonic symphony and Shadow Generations where elements of Sonic came back. The most weird thing about it is we had no acknowledgement of the moon being broken(pissed on) until 20 years after SA2 irl
It is remarkably subtle. I thought it sounded familiar but for the life of me I couldn’t place it, until Cyyu pointed it out. Don’t get me wrong cuz it slaps, but I never thought we’d get any music from that game into a movie trailer. Incredible times, all because the studio listened and changed from their initial design for the Blue Blur.
I think it's moreso that fans didn't want Paramount to water down how dark SA2's plot got for the sake of family friendliness (like the fact that Shadow's main motivation was Maria's death), and now that just spiraled out of control to the point that we're all excited to see a young girl get killed on screen.
To be fair, fans cheering about Maria being killed onscreen is more due to the fact that most of us were afraid they were going to water down how dark Shadow's backstory is for the sake if being "family friendly" Especially given how "safe" the last 2 movies were in terms of tone.

The only thing that i didn't like was how Sonic referred to the Police guy (i forgot his name) as "dad" at the end of the second movie. Ig i just liked their best friend trope from the first movie, and wanted it to stay that way, but oh well
His name’s Tom and I actually prefer him becoming Sonic’s dad. The only other times Sonic has had parents is the Archie comics and the Sonic Underground cartoon. Let the blue boi have a family. Especially since Movie Sonic is a little younger than Game Sonic.
