**CORRECTION: A couple of people called this out and I want to make sure it's pinned here...I DID NOT roll my 401k over to a ROTH IRA, I misspoke **face palm**. It was a Traditional IRA. So sorry about that. As @moneycoachmalika constructively pointed out below: DO NOT roll your 401k over into a ROTH IRA as you would have to pay taxes on it!***

Just a side note for the future, you CAN ask for a severance package when you quit. My husband told me to ask for a severance package when I gave notice and I was like, ummm....that's not how that works. He was like just ask, told me what to say and I got a HUGE severance and they paid for my wedding as a separate "thank you". I didn't even ask for that. Now, I did have to work there for a few more months and they extended the package, but it allowed me to go after my dreams.

I was able to go to my daughter’s school for events and support her. I was off for 8 months. I still had enough money to stay off for the remainder of the year but my job actually called me back offered me an opportunity to work remotely. I am thinking about talking a sabbatical break like that every few years.

I so relate to this video. I was let go from my corporate job in 7/2020. I was there for 8 years and was paid well, but I think I was too comfortable. I panicked for about 30 minutes and then my mindset shifted from panic and confusion to how I can capitalize on this turn of events. Like you, I knew that I would be fine. I ended up creating my dream job and, ironically, it's centered around my side hustle I have done since 1991. This is a good place to be. I appreciate your story. I’m working towards goals you’ve already achieved. Starting a bit late at close to 47 but I’m determined to get there. I have a job (mainly remote & have been with the company for almost 5 yrs) but I’m homeless. I have up my place in 2022 to travel for a few months to visit family/friends. Then, I took a project with my job that had me living in Phoenix hotels for 1 yr & a quarter. In the midst of that, my dad fell ill so I started taking on a larger role in caring for him and my step mom’s business and medical needs. Though, their health has leveled out after several surgeries, I still take care of their business affairs. Now, I find myself stuck in a state I don’t want to be in because I’ve overextended myself financially and have been priced out of most rental markets. I’ve been searching for side jobs that can fit into my life now. Like you, I know everything will work out but it doesn’t prevent me from being exasperated at times.

this is what I say, I told people many years ago, its an expiration date on the job. This situation is reoccurring and I am startled to hear this over and over again. I started a business in my 30s, used my job income to fund the business, when they let me go, I didn't need to find a new job. People, please work on working yourself out of a job instead of getting comfortable. What defines a winner is a winner is willing to do what losers won't. Hustle, build a business while you working, no vacations, no lattes, no nothing! Just grind!

Such great advice and I feel you! Almost 17 years ago, I was forced out of a job I felt secure in. It was a hard lesson, but I too learned to never be too comfortable in any job.
Fast-forward to now, I keep my skills and resumé up to date (I believe it was you in another video that said: "If you stay ready, you don't have to get ready"). Anyhow, I'm working on starting my side hustle and I'm less complacent than I was back then.
As for side hustles, I recommend people don't tell your boss or coworkers at your 9 to 5 about it if there's no rule saying you must tell them-just gives them an excuse to see you as a threat (been there too).
I'm also aware some companies nowadays require you to disclose your side hustles/second jobs. I'll never tell anyone to break their company's rules, just be aware and don't disclose more than they require you too.😉
Otherwise, great video and keep hustling!👍

Libryia! Sorry about your job loss but you got plan A thru Z so you are beyond prepared. I have been on sabbatical since last October and slowly getting back to myself. Thankful for the Exodus Summit ladies, yall were life changing since I got my Mexican Temp Residency. You guys changed my mindset about time freedom! Forever grateful! Also, HRT changed my life! I hit Perimenopause and I thought I was going crazy. I am sleeping and mood stabilized since getting on a regimen that works for me. Definitely a personal decision. I also have the Estring that increased my sexual health. Gotta love that 🥰 I pray God's blessings upon you 🙏

I've always held you in high regard so I knew there was a more of a back-story than you 'just getting fired'. You're far too smart for that. Not a fan of the 'urbanisms' and 'profanity' so much... I feel like you're more professional and better than that, but I'm so glad you're good. Your journey teaches so much. I would love for you to do the "travel thing where you take people on trips" as I want to travel but I am afraid to do it by myself. Never been anywhere without a reason (funeral, wedding, visiting a "friend" in that town, etc.) I lost my husband 3 years ago and I don't know if that has something to "do with my fear".

  • @TheReduxLife

I was recently watching your IG stories and I remember wondering to myself if you were still employed somewhere. Because it seems like you were just traveling quite a bit and enjoying life. I was thinking that maybe you'd transitioned from the 9-5 into full time entrepreneurship. Getting laid off didn't occur to me, but sometimes that's a blessing in disguise. I'm excited for your future endeavors and will be watching.
I picked up some good tips from this video:
    1) I need to set goals and I'm going to start by using the categories you listed.
    2) I need side hustles!!!
Lastly, anybody who boldly claims to make really good dressing is my friend in my mind cuz babbbbyyyyy!!! Dressing is my favorite holiday food with mac n cheese as a close second. And I don't play about either! 🤣🤣🤣

@@TheReduxLife honestly though I’m not traveling anymore than I was when I was employed! I’ve been traveling like this for a long time. Like if I listed the places I’ve been over the last 3-4 years by month, you’ll see that my travel from Sep (when I got let go) to Nov didn’t increase, it was the same AND I’ve always “just enjoyed life” it’s my personal mission to do so!!! Life is for the LIVING!
It’s definitely a blessing and happened exactly the way I hoped it would 🙌🏾
