This anime will give you a character, tell their story, let you get attached to them and then they rip your heart out the moment you think they will live. I have on multiple occasions cried while watching this.
This is probably the most brilliant anime I have seen in over 35 years of watching anime. The writer of the manga created an entire written language for the characters in this story as one example of attention to detail. The main character is refreshingly different from your typical overconfident cocky male protagonist. I found this whole story very realistic in some odd way despite it being a fantasy setting. Everything about it right down to the music and the cinematography is first class. If you watch only one anime in your entire life this is the one to see.

It's not actually an alien at least in the manga the beginning of the chapter said something about the creator (god) being curious and sending out one of its creation(the ball of mass) to see how it would interact with the world around it ,adapt and see the result
Creator god: "Go my child, become the savior of this world with the power to become anything!" Fushi: *becomes a rock* Creator god: "...well, that backfired much more quickly than i thought it would."
S2 has me about to cry waiting for it because if you really watched the show you know how impactful each character he transformed into was *no spoilers* but please watch it
I forgot if its his power or something but he records every soul he meets and the only way he knows that his friends died is that he can suddenly transform as them. And yes its prolly a soul since at somepoint they have their own personality and memories since birth. And the knockers can also steal those souls away from him, effectively destroying that someones existence. He was depress as fuck at somepoint in the story.
To anyone that enjoys watching/reading the anime/manga, I recommend another beautiful and heartbreaking work by the creator, Yoshitoki Oima, The Silent Voice. It also has a movie that was released in 2016.

This anime made me paranoid. When things seem a little too happy, something messed up is about to happen. One of the few anime I can binge watch without falling asleep halfway through; this might be one of the best I've watched.
Gugu death really hitted me hard, I was hoping that I'd see them fight those knockers together and become excellent duos experiencing the life on the road together
...I might actually check this one out...though the feel reminds me a bit of grave of the fireflies. The type of story that will pull out your heart, stomp on it, put it back in, to then stab it, chop it up, put it through a shredder to then put a bandaid on it to then tear it off because a bandaid is too much to ask for o.o
This anime is incredibly sad. The numerous young lives that tragically & quickly end in front of the alien. It's a bit too much for me. It's up there with Grave of Fireflies, imo.
I've read the manga before, Marge arc got me crying everytime, such an innocent and cheerful child got a bad ending, but that's exactly why the story is so interesting.
You know... I read the manga way before the anime made it debut. I never finished it. To be specific. I was only able to read at most on March's arc, because I have been sobbing countless of times. The manga was just too tragically beautiful. And I cannot handle it that well. Hence, I made a heavy decision of dropping it instead. When it got an anime though, I got hyped because it's a super rare and hidden gem that was never that known (JJK, OPM, MHA, to name a few of the popular ones and the ines dominated the market). I went back to read it again. Well, I still cried a lot, but I can definitely manage my emotions now that I am older.
Honestly? One of the most unique animes out there. Main protagonist isn't overpowered and doesn't always win. Even with immortality. He still loses people and unlike others with the same 'concept' of immortality. He doesn't get to 'try again'. Every lost is real and permanent. This summary is beautiful and i'll be recommending the anime to almost anyone.

I stopped watching the show because i had a feeling the little sunshine girl would die eventually, guess i got my confirmation now. I am a die hard berserk fan but i couldn't take her getting hurt lmao. This guy literally wrote the most lovely kid in the manga universe.
