These Android head units are pretty slick, I have an older model in my E46 as well. At the very least I'd suggest Twilight for auto-dimming via time/sunrise/sunset/GPS, as it really makes a big difference once setup. Obviously Torque is a wonderful addition with the ability to read/clear codes and show live data; the sensor refresh rates over Bluetooth aren't phenomenal but it's plenty usable (the gauge widgets are handy too). A backup camera is also a nice easy upgrade; they make ones that replace the license plate light, and a wireless transmitter that can easily be spliced into the reverse lights. I also use NovaLauncher to clean up the main interface with AudioGlow as a live wallpaper and the PowerAmp Widget fullscreen using translucent album art; it looks really nice but it requires Malaysk's custom rom to auto-start PowerAmp and integrate it with the steering wheel controls. On that note. If the unit supports it, moving to Malaysk's custom rom offers a bunch of convenience features like auto-dimming based on sunsrise/sunset/time/GPS built in, the ability to edit stock functions, improved UI, as well as general bug fixes. Simple programs like HeadUnit are integrated that can automatically lower the volume at startup, increase the volume as speed increases, and reduce volume when the reverse camera is active. He really does great work to bring everything together! In any case, they're plenty functional in stock form, but there's always options if you like to tinker. Hope you enjoy it :)
but how does it work with android auto? right now i have the grom BT and i use android auto on my phone and hands free google assistant on my nexus 6p if you install the android auto app on the head unit and pair an android phone with the android auto app on it via bluetooth does it act like an android auto headunit without plugging it with USB or would you need to sideload a different .apk of android auto or is it not even possible i want to know if i can pair my phone an still use hands free google assistant for navigation ,pandora ,calls, and smart home control through the radio and even get it to run on the radio screen like an android auto headunit
You got pretty lucky... looks like someone had already installed the Navigation/HVAC relocation kit. Or maybe the car had navigation or even another android head unit but was removed before being sold? It's why nothing fit there before and why the HVAC unit fit so well. Might wanna let your viewers know since that bracket is about $100. Otherwise the HVAC unit will be a little loose and have a tiny hole on each bottom corner.
@Alfredo Burbano were you able to find it? I bought a relocation kit but if I can just make it fit like he did in the video then I might not need the relocation kit??
The latest version (android 9.0) has tons more functions. Can't believe it costs under $300. The torque app is dope too. I have reads for speed, revs, coolant temp, air intake temp, throttle/accel, load, MAF, volts, fuel flow, spd diff (gps vs car)
Old video, but it seems to me that the AC unit fits so well because it originally was there, and the loose connectors behind the radio previously probably connected to the original navigation system that this car had already had. The loose antenna cable was probably going to an already installed GPS antenna.
I bought an e46 from the scrap yard and it came with this head unit and a backup camera too. I bought another e46 that’s a manual that I’m gonna swap the head unit into, pretty cool head unit and can play movies lmao
4:57 I think you could actually get a radio with a big screen and gps from factory, so that's why it snaps in well there, because with that radio, it's there from factory.
@@ashleybell5421 Yeah funny enough, more than two years after I commented that I bought an e46 and I literally installed a similar head unit 3 days ago.
I have the Torque App myself. When you scan for codes, it’s pretty good, but doesn’t beat an handheld scan tool for the OBD2 port. Besides scanning for codes, it has awesome gauge setups.
Great video my friend!!!! And dang I just noticed ur over a 100k now lol glad to be one of your first couple 100 subscribers lol!!, enjoyed the install bro it looks factory 😎👍
I wonder were you placed the GPS receiver, i also own a BMW E46 facelift coupe and placed 2 android car headunits by myself in my car. Every time i see such install video, i see people install that gps receiver at the bottom of the side of the pillar behind the air ventilation. There is a much better place to mount that antenna, which is behind the instrument panel, belive it or not, there is a spot that fits the gps antenna and sits very deep in to the dachboard, and because its all from plastic, the reception is very very good. If you want to place it on that spot, just pull your steeringwheel towards you, lower the steeringwheel, than unscrew the 2 screws (i think its a torx T20) gently push the instrument panel so that it tilts a little, grab it and pull it gentle towards you, you can put that instrument panel aside and you will see the spot where you can place the gps antenna with double side tape from 3M. it's super easy. (my apologies if i made grammar and spell errors)
The only thing I don't like about these Android head units is that they're not compatible with Satellite Radio. I've contacted several of them and asked if I can hook up SiriusXM and they all said-negative.
Christian Mastrile Probably one of the best most useful updates you can do on the E46! It literally changes the look of the console making it look very current. I went with the Xtrons model. Installed a year ago & have had ZERO issues!!
sounds like a pretty sweet deal! Haven't had the chance to get mine yet, but by the looks of it, it seems like an awesome addition to the E46! Appreciate your feedback and input! 👍
Evan I’m pretty sure there’s an app it’s like a tuner base studio that you can read the parameters of your motor like boost and all others my friend has it in his car👍😎
Aahh only if this video came a few days earlier! I just ordered a pioneer touch screen. Oh well I just looked and my kit is plug in play too so no biggies. Looks good Evan!!!
Got a very similar head unit in my mk2 Audi TT here in the U.K. but it’s just a different brand fits perfectly works really well very happy with it suits any car they go in as it looks factory! The torque pro app is really good it has my boost afr and everything you need that has a sensor I really recommend getting a OBD 2 Bluetooth connector for it
I have a question. You obviously have Harman Kardon system on your car. Does the surround button on your console work with the android head unit? Do you need different wires?
NutNbutSpeed pumpkin is a good brand, but I dont know about their tech supports. I've been on the backburner with seicane before for months on a head unit that was bad from the factory
Hey so I own a 2000 toyota altezza yes automatic which is shit but it's a car and finding a car in new Zealand in a small ass town is very hard. Any ideas of easy and cheap mods I could do ? Cheers

Just got that same unit, have to say the install was easy, but using the same harness on my 2002 m3 the Xtrons buttons do not illuminate, I can go to the menu and change the buttons colors but they soon turn off. Also can't use my steering wheel volume controls. I assume it is because that the additional 10 pin connector that plugged into the original stereo is not connected ?
is it possible to connect this radio also to e46 which has the radio head unit in the trunk? I have the cassette + navigation combo which has the big connector in the trunk instead of the front unit. Thanks!

Seicane is Horrible dont buy I bought one they have horrible service and when the product stops working they want you to pay for shipping and refuses to replace it without it being returned. Mine barely lasted 3 months

Most aftermarket stereos need an antenna adapter. They’re super cheap & plug and play. Metra makes them for almost every vehicle.

Can the Seicane head unit also control the CD changer at the trunk?
The cars had a Pioneer aftermarket flip out screen with a hide away tuner probably hidden behind the glove box and the BMW antenna lead will be there
Is everything will work on the stair wheel you can use them or the dont work hope you answer
Hello where you able to keep your steering wheel controls ?
The unit is cool and on my upgrade list... Nice one!
How do you hook up subs too it? It has a subwoofer plug (green) and red and white
Did it come with the red cambus box..?
How is the audio quality with this unit? Some of them seem to be hit or miss
did the same sort of thing with my 95 e38, thats a fun install :D looks better in the e46 as a lot more popular so better fit.
Does the control work on the steering wheel ?!
what was previously in the space where the A/C ws before?
the installation video on the product page shows you how to install the radio.
I have one but mines only turns on when I have my lights on. Is that normal ? Maybe I have a faulty one ?
Don’t forget using lossses file formats in your system (flac, wav etc) you will feel the differences from mp3. Have fun engine sound and new system
