Hey Constance. Nice name you have! 2 questions! Does this breathing exercise automatically help me get a more relaxed and deeper breathing? Can it help my singing and how much practice is needed?

Hi Claudia, Yes, if you practice this kind of breathing with extending the exhale, it will deepen and relax your breathing. Hopefully you will notice it clearly. Deep and relaxed breathing can definitely help singing. Try the breath practice before singing something simple, and notice what is different. If you can stay in the easeful mode, and allow the breath to come in as needed, without pulling it in to prepare, you will feel and hear a difference. How much practice depends on your goals, and the condition of your breath and voice now. I can't say without seeing you, but I encourage you to experiment!

Hi Constance, thank you so much for this video! The explanation of how breathing works, really helps a lot correcting mine. Could you please tell me what the model you are holding is called? It helps me visualizing how to breathe correctly..

    Hi Constance ,
I i am very much interested in this i their i had the concept in my head of what your saying, but, when i try it again i cant get it, when i speak i have the most difficult time with air.
When i swim i go down in the water and 4 or more minutes later i come up for air and people say to me, how do you stay underwater so long.. I say i forget to breath.

Hi Cindy, Do you live somewhere that you can get an Alexander Technique teacher to help you? If not, perhaps a Skype session on breathing would be helpful. Without seeing you try out the practice, I can't say much about it. But I do think holding your breath is a very different aspect of coordination than elongating the exhale so as to allow for the in-breath to happen on it's own. If you'd like to "chat" further, please email me at constance@constanceclare.com

Talking over phone or video is difficult for me, most of the time, right now, I am trying to work on videos before I do that Constance, but, thanks much.
PS i will keep that in mind, I am not closed with that idea, thank you
