Such an Incredible Video. Mahalo Lloyd from the Big Island of HI from Kona as I shared your Awesome Video I have high hopes of riding it come 2020. WOW
Reminds me of just how miserable traffic on O'ahu is. The part around where the highways merge... does the LRT go under the highway? Tunnel? I can't believe how much is elevated on the west end. There must be big plans for development that way but I'm not seeing it. What grows out that way? It looks like farmer fields.
I think they should have built it at mostly grade level in order to save money and to allow for future expansion. A rail line can be a simple at grade system which is fairly inexpensive or major above grade lines that cost a bundle and limit future growth or expansion. There's nothing wrong with laying at grade, putting safety fence up around it and then building above grade when required by space issues. Hawaii needs commuter or light rail big time, however, their leaders have given them a massive prized mule. It's as if they had no idea what they were doing, hired a company which took them to the cleaners and are now stuck with it.
Now Mayor Caldwell will raise vehicle tax rate 5 cents per pound 2017 & in 2018 raise it another 6 cents per pound then in 2019 raise it another 7 cents per pound. He also signed for higher parking rates in Waikiki, Chinatown and down town to $3 an hours (come to Hawaii to pay more) . Caldwell also raised the bus fare to $2.75 per ride . Squeezing more $ for the failing RAIL Wonder why there are so many homeless here ........
What a great idea for a series of videos. Well done. Is the start of the video REALLY at the actual start of the route? Does this mass transit system really start in green fields?
Hi Tim, the plan for the route starts there. The park and ride or transit station is yet to be built. The main administration and maintenance facility is being built in Pearl City near the Leeward Community College campus.
Across the evening sky, all the birds are leaving. But how can they know it’s time for them to go? Before the winter fire, I will still be dreaming. I have no thought of time. Sad, deserted shore, your fickle friends are leaving. Ah, but then you know it’s time for them to go. But I will still be here, I have no thought of leaving. I do not count the time. And I am not alone while my love is near me. I know it will be so, until it’s time to go. So come the storms of winter and then the birds in spring again, I have no fear of time, For who knows how my love grows? And who knows where the time goes?
Good vid, recommend you edit out all traffic stops, and maybe include a graphic on the video as to what (future) station you are passing or where you are as you follow the track.
If anybody anticipated the costs doubling, I doubt they would have ever started. But now they are halfway done, and to delay it longer will just make the costs go up even more. So, hopefully they will finish soon - I think the end result will be fantastic for everyone on Oahu.
Thank you for all the comments. Good and bad, there are all different opinions on the rail. I look forward to riding on it one day. I don't like all the traffic and the congestion that construction causes, but I think the engineering is awesome! I'm working on the next video taken in May 2017. The next phase of major construction past the entrances to Pearl Harbor and on to the airport will be very interesting and will cause more congestion I'm sure. Aloha.
I would never ride the rail, most people I talk to wouldn't ether. It's a 15 BILLION dollar novelty. If it beaks down, you have to learn to fly or walk a few miles to get down. It doesn't even go near down town! Pathetic democrats
i can't even see why you don't tell everyone that you are not putting thing to tie everything together for the LT Rail of why some of the tracks start from the starting point and you should give all other to show each start and stop of each station and show how everything starts back up to next leg of the rail and tell why yoy are not doing well with good or bad spot of what or why you have not went over 15 miles Mark and you should show why you are slow for each section of the tracks?. i just don't know why you are slow to build up the tracks?.
Let's finish the rail! It's the same story with all rail and metro systems, everyone screams their head off until it is actually finished, and then they love it. Same shit happened in LA and with the BART in Oakland/Bay Area.
Same things happen not only in Honolulu, also around the world. Most of the whiners later forget about what they have said earlier, and become every day commuters of these rail systems. I live across the Main Train Station in Taipei, Taiwan. Our neighbors all whined about the Taipei Metro System, the first ever of its kind in Taiwan, when its initial construction started right in front of our doors and beneath our houses. My family was the only one supporting the idea, as my father had visited Japan and had taken Tokyo's subways before. Years later, none of my neighbors complained about the MRT(Taipeo metro) again, and all brag about how convenient it is to live right near the MRT station. So there you go, samo samo same stories seen in your city. I am not saying the whole HART is perfect. We can all argue about the cost/budget, the train safety and other issues as well. But it should be better than not having it at ll. Love & peace from Taiwan.
What about in Puerto Rico? The tren urbano was built despite many people's opposition to it, but in the end the project came over budget and underbuilt due to government mismanagement.
Sure didn't look like there are many get on and off the train places in this video ride................. When will our species realize un limited population growth is beginning to drown us all in an ocean of to many people and cars.
The point is to show how far along the rail construction in Honolulu has come. Those who have to deal with the traffic and congestion during construction have an interest in when it will stop. Those who are from Hawaii, have an interest because the rail has changed the whole complexion of the landscape. Those who must drive through the gridlock may have hopes that the rail will help ease the congestion. The point is that the rail will affect everyone in Hawaii to some degree.
Soon people will be driving in passenger drones and using the waters off the coast of south Oahu as their highway. The rail is quickly moving towards obsolescence. Stop the project at the stadium.
It’s now October 2019 and its still not done !
Ray O it is estimated to be completed by 2031 now.

Thanks Brah! I love the Big Island. Lived in Honokaa for 12 years.

Suppose to go near Ewa Beach and that area.
It's cool they are building a metro in honolulu

Thanks for this! I live in Manoa so it's cool to be able to see the progress being made!

Glad this system is finally getting done! They were screaming at Frank Fasi about it in 1979 when I left Hawaii!

But seeing all of the stops on the roads gives more of an idea of what the train is up against.
If anybody anticipated the costs doubling, I doubt they would have ever started. But now they are halfway done, and to delay it longer will just make the costs go up even more. So, hopefully they will finish soon - I think the end result will be fantastic for everyone on Oahu.
next video should be of you stuck in traffic. A video not hard to make on Oahu

What do you mean
AtarashiiSekai22 the bay area has a good metro

This really ruins the look of the island. Looks like San Jose now
Seriously?... I guess a parking lot of cars on a highway looks better.
Sure didn't look like there are many get on and off the train places in this video ride.................

Why you never use drone
And the point of this video is...??? I kept waiting for something to happen. What a waste of time.

cy world only intercity rail is becoming obsolete
Gonna suck that one day when your drone breaks down or gets stolen. Wanna complain the train then?
If it's ever completed, the only people that will ride it are mall-hopping tourists and locals already riding TheBus. #stoptherail
A lot of people will use it who live Ewa & work downtown or around Pearl Harbor.
