amazing review, i looked through many different reviews and videos as well as visiting physical retail stores to try out the noise cancelling but i was rather skeptical because i couldn't bring them out to the real world, i saw this video and after watching it i pulled the trigger to buy the XM4s and i have to say, i am not even BLOWN AWAY, it's something more epic than that, thanks for this video!

bought these a couple days ago and took'em out for a workday doing gig work and they are awesome. music sounds great and the noise canceling is great. had them playing music and content for 11 hours total(10 hours straight) and went home with around 40% battery left(noise canceling always on). doing the math that would probably net me another 9 hours of play time which is well short of what was advertised by more than enough for my own needs.

This is the 1st video I've seen from you & I've got to say it was fantastic!
Not only do you provide great info on the product, but your real life tests are simple and effective.
You provided much more useful info on these headphones than others, who essentially provide details that can be retrieved off the packaging..
On another topic, you have great camera work. Several of the clips you included were beautiful. The combination of appealing imagery and useful information kept my attention until the end.

Great review man. 1 feature upgrade i reckon you missed though, was the ability to link this up to your voice assistants (ie: alexa, google, siri). I use mine with alexa, and I can just ask them to play my music, or what the weather is like, or random history lessons. That feature is a big plus for me.
I got mine for 130 bucks refurbished with a 2 year warranty, got the dark blue with gold accents, super happy with them after a few months using them.
Same but silver. They really shine after a slight eq adjustment

@@Braedon323 I picked them up for my wife and she seems to really enjoy them! I have the Bose QC 35 II and I prefer her Sony’s over mine. Mine don’t have the EQ adjustment that hers have and I love the bass that her’s puts out. The Bose are not the headphones you want if you enjoy bass. The ambient mode is nice too. My Bose don’t have that, just three levels of noise cancelation. When my Bose die I will pick up these Sony’s or whatever equivalent is around at that time.

For the first time I have seen anyone putting a microphone inside the headphones to let us listen to the audio. Thumbs up for that
dual device connection is the #1 reason I got these instead of the 3s. makes a huge difference when working from home
Every thing you did was amazing man, i just wanted to see it with more sensitive mic to see how close the ears might take off about noise cancellation.

I appreciate the comfort increase to the headset. I’m all about comfort and if it’s not great feeling no matter what the product is I can’t keep it. I wasn’t a over ear headphones guy before the xm 4s now I’m good for the next few years of music listening to enjoy with scary good ANC. (Never bought the xm3s)

Encountered your content from Mr. Mobile. After watching 3 videos I started watching all of them. Finally subscribed because it was the right thing to do.
Now I'm catching up on what I have been missing and this video did not disappoint. I especially appreciate your technique using the Rode mic to allow us to sample the features we can't typically get out of videos like these. Genius level.
Great video David. I guess if I were to suggest something, when reviewing headphones, you could add the quality of the audio in both wired and wireless setups. Now, being Sony XM4 headphones, I think that could have been irrelevant since I know they would sound awesome but that's just me
I was almost worried that these would be significantly better than the m3’s that I got only a year ago
They obviously won't be. You keep such headphones for about 3-5 years. So i don't think you should replace them before they release 6th gen or 7th. Rest is your decision.
I got the xm 4s because they didn’t have the xm3s anymore and multiple pair device is nice.
From what i've been hearing there is an improvement in music quality from the xm3 to xm4. If you check out the Aaron is loud and wireless youtube channel he has a video that does a direct comparison between the two and does a full deep analysis. Helped me make my decision on which headset to buy

I returned my XM4s, wasnt worth the price to me. I bought a used XM3 for $200 instead.
You didn't say anything about the audio quality! Is there a noticeable improvement on the previous version? How do they compare to the competition?

Just bought myself a pair of XM4's. Cant get them to last more than 18-20 hours, before running out of battery. Maybe its because i'm connecting 2 usb devices..?

Thank you so so much for this video. I'm needing to get noise cancelling for sensory issues and I couldn't find any videos that showed it like this. I'm absolutely sold can't wait to get them!
I just upgraded from the XM3 and yes the new features are great. BUT I’m seriously considering returning them due to the bad phone call experience. In the XM3s, whenever I would accept a phone call the headphones would automatically let in ambient sound which was nice so you can hear your voice while talking. In the XM4s, however, the noice canceling makes it impossible to hear your own voice while talking so you have no idea how loud you’re actually talking, it’s like you’re deaf (at least how I would imagine it to be...) IF there is a way to change this please let me know, otherwise I’m definitely returning them :(
I returned mine last week, not worth it coming from the XM3.
@Thomas Forssell if you enable the 'focus on voice' and set the ambient level to like 10 it works fine

Nice video. Clever use of the Rode mic. Good use of B roll. I liked the tests and the use of ambient surroundings. I enjoyed taking the tour of NYC while you brought up the headphones better features.
Video nice, thank you! One suggestion, making a phone call in a noisy environment would have been nice specifically including 1) how call sounds to you, and 2) how the person talking to you can hear you but also the external sounds and noise around you.

Great video, need more real life testing for anc like this video. ANC works best with music on, otherwise you can still hear stuff
What happen when you connect phone and laptop, while you work on laptop then there is incoming call in your phone? Does it priorities (automatocally switch) to the incoming call?

I would like to see if you ever do a follow up the adjustable noise cancelling and adaptive. Showcase being able to cancel ambient sound and hear voices and the differences between the levels you choose. So maybe in a next hands on video you can pop that info in. Nice videos anyway. 👏🏾

I wanted to see you stress test the ANC. For example power drilling, construction working sites, not just coffee shops and people. The train was a good thing, but you were inside the train when testing the ANC, you should be outside aswell because thats were the loud noices are.

Even on my old M2's I was able to road trip from Michigan all the way to Missouri on a single charge.
Suggestion: Because the summer 2021 is coming, would love to see a phone call test in a windy environment. I'd love to know which (or other headphones/headsets) are best in a windy and a noisy environment. For example, walking by an air vent from a building or real wind (like Chicago), and the effect on a phone call when a bus or garbage truck drives by and I'm out for a walk.

Last night, I've deliberately turned the auto-off function OFF on my app, and left them on (with Wind Noise cancellation, so effectively ANC on) from 40%, slept through the night. It took about 9 hours to drain 30% and get the 10% warning when I woke up.
I don't have the money for either rn and I'm so far ok with what I have. I'll just wait for the next one when hopefully they add more features

This is so underrated
I've got a few models down from the M4 and the battery life is unreal as well as all the other features. That is where wireless headphones need to be with battery life so we can be ok (ish) with the removal of the headphone jack
I'm getting only 3:30 hours of battery life and i just get them like day before yesterday

Also after watching several review videos your video is my favorite so far.
This was immensely helpful to me in deciding between these and the Bose QC 35/45
Placing myself in the position of a waiter or other service person, I would find it impolite if the customer would not be bothered to take off their headphones when placing an order or to communicate about other matters. It would be asking a bit much too much to expect people to be aware of these newly introduced features. Also, wearing headphones to listen to music over that many hours every day will most likely provide you with some profound hearing loss associated problems in the not too distant future. As for cancelling noise on a ferry or in other loud environment, no objections.
As long as you can hear and respond to the service person and don't give them a hard time. 90 percent of them would not care if you keep your headphones on. It is only rude if you have to keep asking them to repeat themselves or something like that.

@@Hakoa well i use it from 12pm to 4pm with ANC & DSEE Hx Extreme on....so far from 100% im go down to 80%.

Very good review.. I guess I have high expectations on such an expensive set of headphones. One suggestion for you is that for headphones reviews you can comment on sound quality. although it may be subjective you can provide an idea on what to expect when it comes to bass, mid, highs etc. I know many people look for this headphones for the ANC but I think many value sound quality as the most important feature.
Nice video. Wish I would’ve seen this video when I purchased my xm4’s. I was on the fence with these and the xm3’s but settled on the latest model anyway. Wasn’t that much of a price difference for me (paid $269). I love them now and if Sony adds a little water resistance for the xm5’s I’d get them too.
two years later and Apple is charging 200$ more for headphones on par with these lol

I bought the Jabra 85h at $199 ot about half the price of these. Obviously, these are better but for most people a mid range pair of cans will get the job done.
Especially, when you consider most people will use them at home
good video, but quite disapointed that you whenever you tested the ANC, you didn't compare it with ANC off
