I impressed them with my alcohol consumption. Don't take that as advice.
lol
Audience: GOOD ANSWER!!🤣
But sure doesn't hinder
As a infantry squad leader this is what you need to do to make a good impression on your leadership as a private, show up with a fresh haircut, go to parade rest for everyone, move with a sense of purpose. When someone asks for your PT score say 10 points higher, when you get your gear make sure you get with someone who has been there for a couple months another private or SPC and square away your kit and ruck. As for your room keep it it clean but deck it out. Don't have a plain room this is your opportunity to show off a bit of your personality.
Understood!
Tip on being responsible don’t go buy a challenger on a 30% interest rate after AIT
Ouch
but but but its part of my contract .....
"Hey First Sar', when's the next soldier of the whatever board?" Yep, sounds like a privite
I'm so looking forward to joining the Australian SAS, it has been my dream ever since I found out that it was a career wish me luck.
God Bless You
Want to impress my first duty station, kinda nervous....

@DynamicDurge lmao
Hey Matt, do you have any plans to do a video on Army Aviators?
just do your fucking job. it's that simple. do your job and help others do their job.
Can you do an updated “how to get in shape for basic training” video?
A recruiter I talked to said to run for 20 minutes everyday just to get started. After you can handle the 20 minutes with no problems, go 30 then 40.
Domt be eating potatoe chips, playing video games all day in your parents basement
Fear Monger that’s bad advice. You shouldn’t run everyday. You should rest in between run days. 3-4 days a week for 2-3 months should get you in shape for basic. Anywhere from 1.5 to 3 miles should be good. You don’t want an injury because of overuse.
@@fernandofernandez2286 20 minutes isn't that dangerous. And 30-40 is more strenuous, but you work up to that. You listen to your body, if it doesn't feel right, pull back, but I didn't say 20 minutes of hard sprints daily, just running, doesn't have to be fast, it's just designed to get you active. Plus, I said that was what the recruiter I talked to said.
Basic wasn’t that hard. I smoked and drank right up to when I headed to basic. And didn’t exercise before.
This is it, I’m at the airport waiting to get on my plane to Georgia. Thank you so much for the calming advice and words of encouragement. I’m terrified but I’ll try my best.
How was it?
Does being bilingual help with forms and stuff that the hierarchy will look at?
Thank you @Matt Ward. I'm going to enlist in October on my 17th birthday. Your videos really helped me get a grasp on the military. Thank you
lone wolf good luck man!
You always impress by doing your job and doing it better and more efficiently. You try to manipulate and you will fail.
Just do your job better and you will do better than most.
Like I tell my crew its harder to hide from your job than it is to just do your job. Do it better than others and you will axcell rapidly. That aspect has never changed. That also works in the civilian world to believe it or not. And you get a pat on the back only when you go beyond the call of duty your expected to do your job so you don't get an ataboy for doing what's expected of you. Only when you go beyond the call......
Hey Matt, the new PFP is lookin' great!
right time, right place, right uniform
welkr youlsh right everything else will follow
I can only say I wasn't first. Hehe.
Hope everyone is doing well and are all safe during these times!
Hang it Thanks you too!
I wish I could put out for rank lmao
And thanks
hey mr.ward I went to alaska my first duty station 80's it was no joke!!!
I just graduated AIT and Im headed to wheeler air base in Hawaii Im so excited and this video really helps, thanks
I'm just going to focus on not being last off the bus on day zero😂😂
I just want to make sure I'm not asleep when the bus pulls up at basic, and then have to try to figure out what is going on when I get off 🤣😂
i was the first at day zero and it sucked
You got a longggg road ahead of you bro
Same , Benning in June
Can you put a video on how go make the beds because I’m not about to have my bed thrown on the ground lol.
Oh it will regardless. Enjoy
I dont even try to be the first or towards the first
Leaving for Jackson May 27. I hope it's not as bad as people say it is
Good luck!
@Jason C I leave May 26
@@rasheenjames767 Me too.
LonelyCandle fort Jackson?
I graduated March 19th and stayed an extra month for corona, it is honestly not that bad. It was a great experience. Enjoy your time there make new friends and try your best. Time flies when you’re having a good time!
When you do your ta50 Lay-out make sure everything is dress right dress and laid out to make going through it as easy as possible.
Question if you happen to see this: Is it possible to transfer from Active Duty to National Guard and or Reserves BEFORE your contract is up? If so, where can I find information
I’m not sure if you can, but you will probably never be able to go back, military doesn’t like people who quit
Danijel Mornarić “leaving active duty service, which you signed up for and committed to for 4 years, to go to the reserves so you can go home “ sounds a lot like quitting to me. I do have to caviat, he hasn’t quit yet
You should be able to transfer to the reserves with one year left on your active duty service. That means if you signed a 6 year active contract you could go to the reserves after 5years of active service. I do believe however that your mos has to allow you to do so meaning if your mos is in demand you might not be able to transfer. Take this with a grain of salt I’m just a private and am just learning the ropes. Best of luck to ya Hoaah!
"so he can go home", don't remember saying anything about the reason I wanted to switch components, or even if I was the one switching components at all (news flash, I'm not).
@@frankjones43 that’s false asf. You can transfer but it’s never guaranteed. Stop with that you will never get back in bs
Good timing on this vid. I’m on holdover status right now pcs-ing to Ft Hood coming from infantry OSUT
Hey bro how was infantry osut haven't heard anybody talk to much on 22 week osut
Tell us about long OSUT, please
Lmaoooo me too bird man just not Fort Hood
@@davidf3241 where to then
Fort Hood lol you're fukd
National guardsman trying to tell you how to deal with a duty station... makes sense.
Best way you try to impress them.
YOU DONT
Haha. 9. That's a first for me.
Volunteer for Ranger school and EIB
Maintain height and weight with a good PFT
Study!! Especially on subjects your falling behind on
If you really want to be extra, go up to your command, say you ever need bodies for a job let me know. Don’t actually say that, unless you’re willing to accept a consequence of actually having to do something.
Hey Matt! Can you do a video on warrant officers? I’m processing for WOFT and would love to know how enlisted and officers see warrant officers and such.
1. Have 300 PTFT score.
2. Win the board ( soldier of the month or year or platoon board)
3. Best Warrior Competetion ( Win it) ( company lvl or batt: lvl)
4. Know your stuff (Learn about ur MOS and make sure of it)
5. Make sure be eager to learn, volunteer and training
6. Be willing to help leaderships
7. Be responsible (dont get article 15)
8. Right Place, Right Time, Right Uniform (at all times)
9. Introducing yourself. The goal is to let the leaderships to your name.
I been doing my best ever since the army accepts me
But I am bad at pt
Do they got those type of soldier competitions in every branch?
# 10- Don't lock your CO out of his office on your first day
Soldiers allow to carry phone while on duty?
One word - (Ranger school) 🥲 so proud of you 🤭
I impressed them how I fit right in with the e4 mafia as an e2 😂
I did the opposite. Totally destroyed my reputation🤣. Needless to say I didn’t re-enlist 🤣
lol I feel like if you get on the bad side of your higher ups in your unit it can be a difficult hole to climb out of.
Best advice I can give is to go straight to your First Sergeant, shake his hand, and thank him for his service. First sarnts LOVE that.
Freddy T 💚💚💚I dont know about all that now?
ARMYprinncess trust me! I’m an officer. Lol.
@@ARMYprinncess it's a trap, don't fall for it
Your basically saying be a suck up but just not a hard core suck up😂😂
Good content as usual tho have a good one matt.
Mr. unconditional 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Mmmmm kinda. Basically go above and beyond when you can. Don't be a suck up but be willing to help. I promise you it will go a long way in how you are treated and especially when you want to do anything for yourself to benefit your career. It helps to be known as a "high-speed" soldier.
I gotcha I was only kidding but this advice will help me tremendously and as per usual much appreciated
Second 😎 Thanks for the vid Matt
Did you join the military right out of high school, or did you attend college first?
💚💚💚as always another banger
Thanks
Not related to the video, but my dog's name is Oakley :)
So, is my sister's dog. lol
Headed to Fort Polk jan 30th...
Thanks for sharing! Really good stuff!👍🏾
11x shipping july 13th to fort benning
Dalton Brewer good luck for the long weeks at 30th AG, had all of us off our heads
I am in JBER, I got my first coin as the best soldier in the field at JRTC after 2months in my first duty station, I got selected to compete on behalf of my company at the board, also for soldier of the month. However COVID19 came in. I got to JBER as first duty station and had the best run time by a mile from everyone. I got waiver to E-2 in BCT, I got another waiver at my first duty station to PFC at my 8th month mark in the Army. Thanks for your video and it’s very instructive
What's your MOS
G Bell I am an 88M, Motor wheel véhicule operator aka. Truck driver
@@timotheeyappi3641 how do you like it
G Bell i like it, I love driving M915, LMTV, FMTV, I got a lot of time to go to school using army TA and get my Batchelor, it’s chilling being an 88M in a lot of units, however it mostly depend on your unit and what you make of it dayly. It gives you a lot of free time, 88M got deployed a lot too and do a lot of stuffs. It’s sucks sometimes because I am very tall and driving hmmvs isn’t my thing.
I was gonna join but at this point ..
Love how this comes out before I’m going to my own FDS tomorrow.
Good luck!
DaWinfred good luck 🍀 you got this
Matt Ward What would an officer have to do to impress his first duty station?
I showed up and failed my first 2 pt test, not making hieght and weight.... lol
Matty Ice. Appreciate the videos cuz
Matt, With all due respect, I don't think that soldiers "win" boards. They EARN them. There is a world of difference between "winning" something and "earning" it.
Happy Tuesday Matt!
If the Army wants to impress someone, maybe find out why so many Soldiers are being murdered at Fort Hood.
Would you say these also apply to Reserve/Guard Units? Since visibility isn’t as easy given the limited amount of time we’re there?
Yes definitely and I would say that standing out in Reserves/Guard may be easier.
@@MattWard89 easier to stand out positively and negatively.
Fort Jackson in 25 days, then Fort Lee for EOD shits in AIT🤯😬
What I got out of this video is just brown nose lol . Doesn’t matter if you’re private scruffy when you first show up doesn’t matter what you do you’re going to get destroyed
I’m on holiday block leave right now as a 12Bravo in my last 3 weeks of OSUT and I know I have to definitely get additional training, I understand alot of thing but I also don’t understand some things. This is the biggest thing I’m nervous about but we get through it
Leaving for Paris Island June 15 hopefully works out well
Matt, I really like your videos but I think you've got this one all wrong. Well mostly wrong. You hit 5 before I agreed with you. What you want to do is keep "eyes" off your leadership. Be able to pass your PT test. Don't ask to go to any boards as you must be recommended for them. Don't walk up to your 1SG and introduce yourself. You might get drop kicked into the next week. Understand that all the information you learned in Basic was front loaded into your brain. We know that you're not going to remember it all. Just do your best. Do what you're told when you're told to do it. I wouldn't worry too much about being at the wrong place (as a private) as that's a leadership problem. If you want to impress your leaders then show them, don't tell them.
Currently at AIT in ft lee thank you for your videos they help alot ( and here I am still watching your videos good job matt)
Quentin Massey hooah I’m here at Ft. Lee myself
@@TheLadiesman0815 whats your MOS?
Quentin Massey 91B. On the Ordnance side. Wbu?

Quentin Massey ah ok. I’m in 59th Ordnance BN. Hope you guys doing aight over there
i leave from Fort Gordon AIT in couple weeks, going to JBLM 25b mos
I appreciate your videos so much. 25 days or so before I go to bct. I'm excited and nervous. Your videos are very helpful. Thanks.
hi
HOW do you report to your first duty station straight put of osut? As in, where do you report and how do you know where to go or talk to? And how do i get my family to my first duty station?
I ship out to Fort Sill on June first, one month away. A little nervous but your videos help me keep mellow and understand way more then what my recruiter had told me.
Graduated basic today! Ft Wood!🔥 Ready for ait
I've been watching your videos and All I can say is THANK YOU for the advice!🙌
You are so welcome! Thanks for watching!!!
💚💚💚His videos are always on point. I think I might do a reaction video from one of his!
@@ARMYprinncess WORD!
great advice 👍🏼
dont listen to any of that, how to impress your unit is easy. hang out with the guys, get to be friends, go drink with them. they will teach you what they want you to know. befriend the e4s, they will show you the way. everything he said will get you in trouble with the joes. remember hes an officer. dont suck up, just follow the senior guys that arent ncos.
You can do what I said and what you said at the same time. lol They aren't mutually exclusive 😂
Only 1 drop out disliked this video
Watching this on day 2 of week 1 as a hold under at AIT
that 30th ADA patch I see on the wall behind you , the one with the 3 arrows and ring around them . Is upside down , that’s my BDE Matt
Just fixed it, thanks!
Love your videos! You definitely inspired me to want to join the military even more!
When are you going to do another live video?
I was wondering if you get to keep your mustache in basic training or do they just make you shave that off too?
If it were 1985, you could
Take initiative when it comes to tasks.
What should i join? the Marines or The Army? I want to join the marines since that was my dream since a kid and i want to be "the best soldier" but i also want to join the Army because my longtime friend is enlisting in the Army. Which will make me the better soldier?
Do you want to deploy? If no join marines if yes join army
@@user-xo2th7xo4w thanks
Early af
lol Yeah I'm uploading at an odd time
So this might be a stupid question but how would I introduce myself to a Superior just walk up and have a casual conversation? Or would you be more formal? I haven't gone to basic yet so this might just be a stupid question 😂
Short answer is: don't
@@charleslasley5367 so just do a good job and stand out by being a good soldier?
I wouldn't listn to Charles saying don't. It will go a long way to at some point early on introducing yourself. You can do it after a formation when the 1st sgt or whoever isn't busy. Literally just introduce yourself. It's supposed to be a part of the in-processing into a unit but just take initiative. OR you can fly under the radar and then when the time comes for you to ask for a favor to benefit you/your career you get denied because you didn't establish a good relationship with those in charge.
@@MattWard89 this would be the only time I'd disagree with you only because you are assuming I'm telling this man to fly under the radar. On the contrary. But you know what they say about opinions.
Its crazy this is the only time i could get a mention from you man i watch religiously in my own prep for basic. Love the channel bro thanks for the mention
Epic
Or if you get into ranger batt you’re just screwed, sorry bro
👍
Hey Matt, what happens right after BT? How long is the wait period between end of basic and you leaving.
As someone who has BT in August, I too would like to know this.
I got you guys. The day you graduate you immediately go to your duty station, that would be after you visit family and walk the field. "Usally" in some cases but not most you dont have an immediate duty station and you wait a couple weeks as a holdover til you receive one
@@uncletammy5025 I was at fort benning for 14 weeks but got medically discharged a couple weeks before grad. So Ik alot about basic. Ask anything else if u got questions
I’m looking into the Navy.... what’s the highest rank you can reached leaving BT? I
I heard someone say can leave as either an E-3 or E-4
I'm going to try to get an 11x contract with airborne. When would I be able to volunteer for RASP?
Trenton Haynes I’m on my last week of 11b training they came week like 16 and they come on day 3 at airborne plus you can go to the Liaison at any time to sign up.
Thats backwards brother. Get 11x option 40 if your goal is rasp. You have to be super lucky to get rasp without it. I mean win the lottery type of lucky. And with the op 40 airborne is guaranteed.
@@stevenaguilar9597 thank you!
Don't listen to Charles Lasley he doesn't know much about becoming a ranger .Just think about this if getting a opportunity to go to RASP without getting option 40 in your contract and it being like hitting lottery then why do they have RANGER RECRUITERS period. And I'll wait.
