One of the most elusive skills in tennis is timing. During a point, a tennis ball is in constant motion. However, the rate at which it rises and falls remains constant. In fact, so do our bodies; we all rise and fall at the rate of gravity
The secret to timing lies in aligning our dynamic movements (our split step, strides, etc.) with the ball's bounce. We use counting: "1" is our opponent's contact and our split step. "2" is the first bounce of the ball, and "3" is the second bounce. We subdivide the count with "and" at each moment of the ball's peak. We further subdivide with "e" and "uh" to mark the moment's just before and after bouncing.
    The full count: "1 - e - and - uh - 2 - e - and - uh - 3."
For a typical opponent's groundstroke, struck from the baseline and landing medium pace near the service line:
    "1" - [Opponent Contact]
    "1e" - NA
    "1and" - High Volley
    "1uh" - Low Volley
    "2e" - Rising Groundstroke/Half-Volley
    "2and" - High Approach Shot
    "2uh" - Low Groundstroke
    "3" - NA
We can generally decide upon where we should play the ball in between half and 1 count. The amount of time it takes for us to swing varies between a half a count and 1. In learning to count, and allowing our movements to synchronize rhythmically with the count, we significantly reduce the amount of momentum- and timing- killing sudden stops and starts.

But when the ball comes with strong spin, the timing will be different, won’t it?

Great feedback. I'm working on fleshing out this video into something more comprehensive. Stay tuned

but you forget one major component, the speed and the spin of the ball, also it's a terrible idea to start counting in your head when you need your head to focus on the stroke it self

Not so sure if this would help anyone with the timing issue. Its like easier said than done.

0:45 not true, bc of topspin and slice, timing is mor intuitive gained by playing more
