Poor Diamond, such a hard working mother
it's incredible. It looks like a real family scene... mom injured, no money, no food, child crying, but dignity in their eyes. INCREDIBLE

Yurruga nibbled at her feet quite a bit over those few days, Diamond is a very tolerant parent indeed!

Everyone is concerned for the bird but meanwhile I'm trying to wonder why her chick is the equivalent to a 2 year old screaming. I hope her foot gets better.
There's a video of a goshawk (l think it is) pulling its own leg right off trying to subdue a bird in its talons. It's hard to watch. I'm glad this situation turned out better.

OMG, I just found this video. Is she ok? Does anyone know what happend? Are the chick & eggs ok? Does dad help with the feedings? Sorry for all the questions, but if anyone's willing to reply to me I'd truly be greatful!! She was biting at her foot, wonder if she has a thorn in it & if so, how does a bird recover from a thorn????

Unsure, she was away from the box for almost 10 hours one day, and returned injured. Perhaps injured while hunting. But she has made a full recovery 😀

What happened to the mothers foot does anyone know? I presume her mate is catching food for both of them but this my first time watching this site as I have no idea when she injured herself.
This was recorded in November 2021, Diamond made a complete recovery a week or two later. She likely injured herself hunting as they catch prey with their feet - foot injuries are quite common.

they are waiting on the father. the mother isn't the one whose trying to replace the father responsibility. if the father dont come back the chick will die and when that happens she finds another mate.
Not always - several years ago, Diamond's mate Bula disappeared in the middle of breeding season when they had three chicks. A number of suitors turned up in the days after Bula went missing, including Xavier, the current male at this nest.
