  • Increasing demand for hydrogen is spurring the development of lower cost, energy efficient, and carbon-neutral production. While green hydrogen is the most desirable of the color spectrum, costs to produce hydrogen from renewable resources are higher than using natural gas. Blue and grey hydrogen production remain the most common sources at this time.
    Within the process Industries, a good portion of the hydrogen used in refineries, ammonia plants, methanol plants and steel mills is derived from fossil fuels. There is also a push to blend hydrogen with natural gas to increase the calorific value as a fuel source in the generation of electricity. These are industries in which accurate, reliable, and safe measurements are required.
    Most applications do not require custody-transfer level accuracy, and the high total cost of ownership associated with that type of instrumentation. Flow meter technologies such as thermal can provide these measurements without breaking the bank with regard to initial purchase, installation, and maintenance costs. At the end of the workshop, engineers and operators will have a better understanding of thermal flow technology, where the technology is commonly used and pitfalls to avoid when it comes to instrument selection and application.
