I’ve had this match on VHS for about twenty years but not watched it for a long, long time. We have to count ourselves very fortunate that it exists at all. Just a shame they weren’t able to get the fixed camera positioned at the top end - its quite difficult to read the position of the balls around the black spot.
Henry West his Manager, Rufus Robey picking up Jimmy and Johh McClaughlin with the silver hair. Memories of Hounslow Staff Bar from the 70’s and 80’s!!
I think the camera facing from balk down the table is way better and not something I've thought about before ,it shows how difficult the game is from a layman's perspective and reminds me of when I play myself ,makes it more real
Jimmy White, aged just 17, becoming a pro on the spot there. And "the spot" being in Tasmania, of all places! Absolute gold dust - where do you find this stuff?
Jimmy made quite an impression back then - Actually the game was pretty big in Australia in those days. Not so much now. So many snooker halls have closed down due to a lack of interest in the game. Eddie Charton's snooker career did a lot for the game back in the 70s, 80s, & early 90s,. But Neil's success overseas hasn't done much for the sport in Australia - sad to say.
It was 1980. I can forgive the bad camera angles. The commentators - no. Stfu. Yap yap yap yap yap. Predicting the obvious. Stating the obvious. And then stating it again 😴
Clearly never watched any 80's snooker. 50 was a century in 1980. Tables were slower, balls heavier and the attacking game of the 90's that Hendry brought in were unheard of. Enjoy old school skill ffs.
Thanks. Never thought I could watch this in my life. - a Jimmy's fan
Anyone else think that the camera work here is somehow way more dynamic than what we experience today?

Like finding gold in a previously empty room.
Inception, snooker edition.
The pre 1985 Jimmy White was a joy to watch. There was never a smoother snooker player.
Jimmy White Class player,Class Act 👏👏👏
Omfgg!
This is like digging up buried treasure! Many thanks to the people who uploaded this video!!
3rd shot in, you could tell 👌

Oh goodness this match was taken off RUclips a while back- thanks so much for getting it on here again!!! 💛💚🤎💙💖🖤
My goodness. never realised this was even televised. Thanks MJT
Thankyou for this absolutely brilliant
A gem of a find.

And this was what pushed Ron Atkins into football management.
🤣🤣🤣
Your confusing two different people, Ron Atkinson was a football manager
Ron Atkins went on to forge a career as Britain’s first male pole dancer
So he never really hung his snooker cue up
I suppose in the end the balls were kind to him
Wow! Looking forward to this one :-)
What a find. Brilliant

jimmy had already secured his pro status by winning the English amateur the previous year. this is still absolute gold footage though

That was brilliant. Ron Atkins total class too.
Am I alone in enjoying the novelty of the camera work?
Marvellous
I think Ron is influenced by cliff Thorburn who was world champ that year if you look at his mannerisms and cueing action
Love the nets that catch the balls instead of the rails they have now. I reckon they should bring back the nets for the next world championships lol
Just searched for this after reading this chapter of Whites autobiography. Probs playing with a massive hangover 😂
Love the pockets! 😁
Can someone remind me of how many World titles Jimmy won, as a pro? 🤔
Jimmy missed a easy blue there .those kind costed him the world pro championship in later years.
Tony Meo
Jimmy White showing his class but I've seen better refereeing at the local working mens club.
What u want mate?? Blood?
We are all lucky to be able to see this moment in time
Ron never had a chance of winning this match!
these comintators are doing there best , but leave the scoring to the reff

Awful camera work, rubbish snooker. JW was a sick joke in this match and 'happy to lose' Atkins needs a thorough seeing to. Absolute unwatchable crap
Thanks for that contribution.
Still getting anger therapy 😂😂
Same guy on burner account.

@@mark771977 All good points but would qualify to the extent that I think a 70 then is more equivalent to a 100 now.
