    I would love a "day in the life of a Friar" video. My 9 year old son talks of maybe becoming a "brother" some day and I think a video of a typical day would be amazing to have him view. Thanks!!

    I really want to say thank you once again. This morning the Holy Spirit of gratitude welled up in me and rather than just singing under my breathe, I began to sing out loud 'As the deer pantheth for', then when I came to 'to You alone may my spirit yield', I suddenly realised that this is my prayer and meditation and heartfelt appeal to the Lord to take away a mortally sinful desire...that my spirit by His merciful grace and in upholding me, shall no longer yield to it. The Word is alive. Thank you Fr.

    I truly want to develop my prayer life! It's something that's been totally foreign to me growing up unfortunately, even though I come from a devout Catholic family. I'm truly blessed to have God directing me to improve myself in this way! So much fruit can come from the individual devoted to prayer!

    Father, I'm in RCIA and this video, as well as your last one, is so important. I've been trying to improve my prayer life after converting from atheism (and so not praying at all for decades) and doing this daily, as well as what the priest teaching me suggests, will only bear fruit in the long run. Thank you so much.

    Each time I watch Fr, I want to do a Jonah 😅. When he says and infers that God will reveal Himself I know for a fact that He will and fear and trembling besets my heart. I always know that the Lord is asking me to have enough faith to jump off the cliff. Am still struggling to follow the suggestion to ask God directly what He wants me to do on a particular day for the ridiculous reason that I know He will answer. But okay, I guess I stumbled on Father and his brothers not by accident. I can feel the fire already. I already scare myself with stuff that happens to me. Thank you Fr. Okay...let's throw everything to the wind and jump...the Word is God.

    Best thing I ever did was memorize the beatitudes. There's a systemic coherency to it that needs to be swallowed whole, yet each detail shines brighter the more I sit with it and recall it through various episodes in my life. Great tips!

    • @mamaedina1
      @mamaedina1 5 лет назад

      I think I should do this too but there are some of them am yet to fully understand what they actually mean

    • @NeanderdeOliveira
      @NeanderdeOliveira 5 лет назад

      mamaedina1 Here's my personal understanding that helps me:
      Meditating on my animalistic passions, and my material desires help me feel my utter poverty in Spiritual things. I can't sorrow and weep until I comprehend my sinful nature fully. Coming to that moment of repentance, I am aided. But I can't move forward until I comprehend that the kingdom will be inherited from above. So for now I must be humble, gentle, meek, trying to be aware still of my material limitations and weaknesses. So I feed and feast on God's word and living water. That's where true righteousness comes from. If I allow spiritual things to be my source of strength, then I can give AND receive mercy. Discarding feelings of contempt and repentening I am filled with more and more mercy, creating in me a pure heart to see God. A proof of my being a son of God is my works of peace upon this world (that's actually a big differentiator of true discipleship). The world dispises Christ. So now we've come full circle. He promises the Spiritual kingdom to those who suffer and are persecuted in his name. Name meaning more that simply saying his name, but I'm his character. Knowing all parts of the beatitudes is important, because it's self-correcting. Each part depends on the other. It balances itself. It cleans you from the inside out. It asks you to see your poverty, repent, feed on his word, etc... It's so beautiful. I learn more and more every time I meditate on it.

    Thank you for this! I am going to practice asking those questions. Thank you for your explanation of contemplation. I pray lectio divina most days but I've been unsure what to make of the contemplation step. To be honest, I've been kind of cheating... I ask God for the grace of contemplation, then read the Gospel another time looking for an attribute of Jesus that I can praise and I write a sentence like, "Jesus I praise you because you are God's beloved Son." Or whatever I noticed... Then I look for a reason to trust him... "Jesus I trust you because God the Father said to listen to You, He came and said you are trustworthy." Every once in a while I'll read through and feel kind of obsessed with a word or phrase for a while and I think maybe sometimes that is contemplation. Basically all this to say I find the contemplation part of lectio divina intimidating but your explanation has given me new ideas. Thank you!

      Hi Angela, any Catholic Bookstore or on line store such as EWTN religious catalog, Catholic Company, Leaflet Missal..will all have many items will the image of Our Lady of Guadalupe. It's a beautiful story of how she appeared to Juan Diego outside of Mexico City. When Juan told the Bishop Our Lady requested a chapel to be built, the Bishop wanted proof of flowers that did not grow in that area. Our Blessed Mother told Juan where he could find the flowers ...he scooped them into his tilma and brought them to the Bishop. When he let the flowers fall from the tilma the image of Our Lady of Guadalupe appeared on the tilma. The tilma, a cactus cloth which should have disintegrated in about 50 years... is still intact with the image, which can still be viewed at the Shrine today... Millions were converted in Mexico.

      I've had people lead lectio divina in a group. They explained the first step, read the passage slowly, gave us time to ponder, explained the second step, read the passage, gave us more time, then at the end gave us time to discuss it...

    • @kimfleury
      @kimfleury 5 лет назад +1

      What Jessica Barton describes is a modified Lectio Divina -- my parish has one on Friday mornings, led by a spiritual director. He explains that he's leading a modified version, and that ideally each of the participants will pray a solitary Lectio Divina through the rest of the week. It was useful to me to get me jump-started (and it happened to come at the right time in my life, when I had Friday mornings off - "funny that"). I think you very well CAN use Lectio Divina techniques in a Bible Study Group, and encourage participants to make a habit of praying it at least a few days each week. Here are my suggestions/"idears" --
      If you're taking one Book of the Bible to study during a particular time frame, you'll usually "assign homework," where participants read a certain amount of the Book before the next session.
      If it's a Gospel, they can pray Lectio Divina with the assigned passage as their homework.
      If it's an OT Book, take some preparation to point it to the Gospels, and assign a smaller portion of the OT Book, followed by the relevant Gospel passage as Lectio Divina. Remember, the OT foreshadows the NT, and the NT fulfills the OT. You will probably have to look for the connections, but it's so worth it -- it really opened my faith.
      If it's an Epistle, Acts, or Revelation, take the preparation effort to point it back to the Gospels, and do the same as above. The Apostles were given the Tradition orally -- they *heard* the Word proclaimed. There was no New Testament Bible yet, except for one written Gospel that's described in Acts. They taught the oral Tradition, but as clarification was needed, they wrote the Epistles. There is more oral Tradition that was given to and written by the Church Fathers, but that's not in the Bible. Even so, you might bring some of that writing in so as to clarify the Gospels and the Epistles, Acts, and Revelation. All of these point to the Gospels, so you can fit Lectio Divina in as homework.
      Finally, this prayer is for lectors, but you can modify it for your Bible Study Group:
      Begin with a Scripture passage, such as Romans 10:8, Hebrews 4:12, Proverbs 30:5, or 2 Timothy 3:16.
      + In the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
      Come Holy Spirit, into my mind and my heart as I read these Sacred Scriptures. Inspire me with your grace to Proclaim this Living Word with sincerity and reverence. Help me to focus on the word and discern its meaning so that I can communicate it clearly and enthusiastically. Each time I approach the Ambo, remind me that I am on holy ground and that the Ministry of proclaiming the Scripture is a sacred trust. I place all my trust in you, that through your power, the people of god will hear and accept the word into their hearts. Amen.
      +In the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

    This is an interesting scenario. If you believe in traditions more than you believe in the Bible where does it leave you when you say how to pray with scripture. Shouldn't you say we only use the Bible little bit and then we use tradition mostly. And I'm not being critical and I'm not being disrespectful I'm just telling you how it is. In actual fact the 1940 catechism tells it exactly the same and also the great document that the Roman Catholic Church wrote. is called Romes challenge. And Romes challenge states anyone who practices and teachers the Roman catholic doctrine will receive the full wrath of God". The Roman Catholic Church has stated many times that they have change the day from the Sabbath to Sunday. And the book of Daniel states and I quote at the end of time there will be a man standing as the vicar of Christ that will change gods law and time. So if we pray with scripture and if we read scripture shouldn't we have red flags now standing if we look at Sunday. Because what did Daniel do when they had a Sunday law. He refused to obey. He kept the sabbath as scripture taught. If you are an ambassador for Jesus Christ. And ambassador. has an enormous responsibility and commitment. First they must obey the law of the kingdom. Second they must obey the head of the kingdom. Thirdly they must know where the kingdom is. This is the sale of the kingdom. Every kingdom on planet Earth has a legal seal. In the 10 commandments the fourth commandment which is the sabbath commandment has the legal seal. That's why Jesus said if you love me keep my commandments it's only a love response. If you make all the excuses not to keep it then what are you actually saying to Christ.
