The Trinity holds a special memory for me. In 1975 I caught my very first steelhead, an 8 pound native buck. I was fishing near Weitchpec and caught him on a yellow Roostertail spinner. What a thrill!
Fantastic video. My family and I have fished the Trinity river often. Looks like you found a good place to fish. We use to wade in the water during the summer time. We usually caught trout during the summer months. God bless 🙏
This is a great video. I have fished a couple of those spots. It is really nice to see a non fly fishing video on the Trinity. Angler West is becoming one of my favorite RUclips channels.
Hey Fella, how are you doing? I live in Idaho but lived in Redding in the 80's as well and fished the Trinity quite often. My biggest that I remember was about 8lbs. My biggest came from Redwood Creek near Orick, and was 20lb,..My love now is Walleye, Perch, Crappie, Bass and Tiger Muskie on the side...Good Luck with your fishing...
Great job! Your viewers may get a kick out of watching me sink my drift-boat in Weitchpec Falls--on the beautiful Trinity River--28 years ago! Just go to the second Playlist (first video) on my channel.
Promoting unsustainable fishing. This river should be fly fishing only with barbless hook. The limit for Chinook salmon on the Trinity and Klamath is 1 per year. Steelhead should be catch and release. Any fish caught on a spin casting treble hook has a poor chance of survival, if released. I have hooked steelhead over 3' long on a barbless fly; enjoyed the fight and released them on Northern rivers. I don't need to take a dead fish home.
Mono sinks faster than braid is what he was saying. I think the guy in the video needs a left handed reel. He looks pretty ridiculous casting and reeling that thing
I disagree with your weight theory every time I drift my float is pointing heavy downstream I drag the heck out of the bottom and do very well I am not saying your wrong at all just what works for u and me varies
Naturally if a bait was dragging on bottom enough to hold it back the float would be pointing up stream also. Also the current is also faster on the surface than on the bottom so we need to do something to get them to float together in order to get a natural drift... Like you said do whatever works for you.

@adifishing Thanks for the info, Should I use braid? I currently have 10lb spooled. Spare spool has 8lb mono. The mono sinks. Thanks.
Canyon Creek hole. I never did land any out of that hole last year,my pal Frank did though. Downriver one day I had a banner day .
Have you guys ever tried centerpin reels? I'm from British Columbia and they are really popular here, along with level winds like you are using.
I have a question fly floatant stuff you use what type of brand is best use on P-line hydofloat line?

Such an unsatisfying way to catch steelhead. Spey your trout.
