question : is the warden's move where he/she use the guard and stabs it into the shoulder of the adversary ( battle wise ) historically correct cuz i know some duels were fought while holding the sword by the blade but like would it have been used during an all out battle ?
To put it strictly, no. The technique is called half-swording, which is holding the blade with a hand. The technique is done both in war and in duels when you're dealing with an armored adversary. The purpose of half-swording was to get in closer within the gaps of the armor and slip your blade in between. With one hand on the blade, your contact with the point and leverage is accurate enough for a good stab or wrestling. The one that the warden did on the orochi (the samurai) is holding the blade with both hands and hitting him. That's called a mordhau or murder stroke (idk the English translation of that but that's what I know so far). But what the warden did here is different, because when you're using the mordhau you must hit your opponent with the pommel of your sword. Essentially, you're treating it like a club. But the warden hits him with the hilt of his longsword. Even if it wasn't historically accurate, I think that anyone can hit with the hilt and cause some damage. In a battle, you gotta work with what you have with your weapon, so why not use the hilt to poke his eyeball. I hope this helps
