Fall of 76. I was a freshman. Played trombone. Went from playing quarter and half notes at Floyd Middle School to the fugue in Britten Young Persons Guide to the Orchestra in 3/2 time. Remember hearing the judges tapes from Dalton Music Festival-they were flabbergasted! Played first year with Spirit of Atlanta. Later, I played bone under David Walters at JSU with the Marching Southerners. Another southerner told me how his older brother had played with Southerners as the exhibition band at Dalton during this time and South Cobb High School Blue Eagle Band blew them away. Will always remember these times. What a great experience. Thanks Freddy!

Definitely the fall of 76 show. I was a sophomore (76/77). Learned to love Wagner that year. Also remember forming the star during "Chava" giving me chills.

David - The only time we (Christian County High School Marching Colonels) ever beat South Cobb was in 1976 at Dalton Georgia with both of our bands playing drum corps style music / marching and our uniforms were Caballero clone while South Cobb had uniforms modeled after the Muchachos but in Blue to match their mascot and were always so fantastic. Its amazing that we considered South Cobb our only real competition even though we were from Kentucky. The further south we went, the better we did due to no other Western Kentucky Bands marching drum corps style then. We went to Gadsden, Alabama, Dalton, Ga, and Cleveland, TN each year. Thank you for posting this video as I never ever got to see South Cobb perform during my 4 years of high school.

We did Channel One Suite the fall of 1977 (class of 1978).

What a blast from the past. Thanks David!
Do you happen to have Sprayberry from the era?

Doug is right. The first Mambo show was the fall of 1975. Then it was performed the fall of 1978. As to this video, Margaret James is correct: this from the fall of 1976 (class of 1977). Don Grimsley is the drum major.

jlacy0724 - Duane Still was also a drum major that year, I think. There were 2 guys and one gal up front.

I do have other videos. My video machine is being service at the moment. So, I am in a holding pattern for the moment. My plans are to post everything once I get it back. I'll see if re-recording at that time will improve the quality of these videos. I have posted a couple of music files on the facebook page, SCHS Blue Eagle Band-The Freddy Martin Years.

I believe you and Margaret are correct. Mambo was the opening two years in a row, 1977-1978 and 1978-1979. This opening
    is obviously not Mambo.

David, do you have the video of the South Cobb High School Band from the fall of 1977, which would have been the class of 1978, doing the Channel One Suite show?

not sure this is 1978? I specifically remember the big shiny on the shoulder tubas instead of sousaphones but I do remember the bottle dance being done more than 1 season due to its popularity!

This was fall of 1976.... not 1978
