Went to the Govt run Police public hospital in Bkk about 5 years ago, before covid. It was a very busy hosp, and few staff spoke much english. Although they were good doctors, and it was cheap I waited all day to see a doctor. Last year I went to Siriraj public hosp which is the biggest public hosp, and it was a similar experience. Have been going to Bumrungrad private hosp for more than 20 years, where most staff speak english fairly well. Its certainly much less crowded, probably because its much more expensive, if unable to claim it on insurance.

Public hospitals in Thailand work on a number system. You need to be there 4/30 5am in the morning. To get your number. I have never had a numbetcover 10. So if you want to See a doctor quick. You need to get out of bed early.

I live in Pattaya and signed up for Pattaya Expats club group policy with Pacific Cross. I was hit by a hit and Run Truck from behind while riding my bicycle. I am really happy with Pacific Care after they paid for most (90%+) of my 1 week stay in the hospital.

Pacific Cross do offer decent affordable comprehensive cover. However, there’s a big issue should you be over 60 or have any pre- conditions or on long term medication expect them to view everything as a pre- condition. Including Statins. Their underwriters WILL insert exclusions for absolutely anything you declare regarding your clinical history. Check the offer letter forensically for any exclusions and waiting periods. Then seek advice as to what they mean and how they impact your cover. their underwriting to be non negotiable. I was able to evidentially challenge a very significant exclusion. Which was ignored. Everything seemed to take an age, and I really couldn’t recommend them. Luma, different story. Efficient, expedient and great cover, more expensive but worthwhile. Give yourself time ( Months of it) when you go looking for the cover that suits your circumstances.

There under no obligation to renew your policy as it’s only yearly meaning if you get sick in the 11 month and become expensive your out. Better to get a 20 year contract. And check this company out yourself.

Hey Johnny... I just had a health scare with my heart stopping multiple times.. Supposed to be back in Thailand in a few weeks but my usual insurance turned me down.. I reached out to Pacific Cross a few days ago - put in an application but no response yet... Expecting they won't cover pre-existing stuff also though! Not sure what it will cost me if anything happens again while I'm these... I don't trust any insurance company at this point unfortunately - all money making and no care of course....

renewal is a huge question. If you have claimed in the current year you will likely face a significant premium increase the following year and even be refused depending on the actual diagnosis

  • @user-pv2xy1og8h

When you are relatively healthy and not too old, sure you can get some good insurance deals. None of them will guarantee renewing your cover as you get older and sicker. When you are inevitably at that stage of your life where your health starts to fail and you need for healthcare mounts, you will NOT be able to get ANY health insurance. If you go to the private hospitals for health care, they will drain ALL of your life savings so fast your head will spin. If you go to government hospitals, it will be dirt cheap, but you may find the conditions intolerable.

i lived in thailand for years up until 2017. had pacfic cross. no issues.
though i came back to the US then lived in south america. Cigna Global is hard to beat.
for me CIGNA is global except for in the US. not selling anything, just a discussion.
i prefer a western (or US) insurance company. Cigna is US but the global is HQ in Scotland/Ireland.
i do not know IF i pay more. it always factors: policy, age, deductibles, ect.
though i have used it in thailand, PI, peru and argentinia. they have the largest list of direct billing hospitals also.
i used it in Bangkok and Bangkok Hospital and i when i gave her the GoP...you could see they were impressed.
anyways..to each their own. for someone, myself in my 50s..you can not responsibly live ExPat without a good, reputible insurance policy.
i was talking to expats in peru. IF you get a retirement visa you pay like $80 a month for the government insurance. some were OK with that. to each their own.
you want a 70yoa Peruvian physician making medical decisions based on saving a buck for a foreigner...or see your top-end policy and in a private hospital?
then again we all have different resouses.
bottom line: however, wherever----have a policy in effect.

Liked the presentation but some of the things he said just didn't add up.
I mean for example you asked how many policy holders they had in Thailand and what percentage were expats. He said 2m and about 50 percent expats.
So 1m expat policy holders in a country that has less than 300k expats from all of Europe, Australia and the US COMBINED.
There only are about 3 m non Thai Nationals in Thailand and 80 percent of those are from Mynmar, Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam and China. I highly doubt all these Burmese and Laotian manual workers have 30k Pacific Cross health insurance
Anyway I guess he didn't know so just said something off the top of his head but makes no sense if you know anything about Thailand.

When I arrived here three years ago I took out medical insurance
Unfortunately, it is not worth the paper it is written on
Non payout on claims is over 50% across all sectors, and the exculsions are mind-boggling and for pre-existing medical conditions if you have ever visited a hospital in the last ten years they the underwriters will find a,way of associating the condition you had with the current claim and rejecting this
Let ne give you an example. A friend here went to a hospital 7 years ago for a routine check on his heart, no. problem just lipids levels high gave one'dose of medication
Roll on 7 years had to be admitted to hospitial for a heart condition , claim rejected on pre-existing medical conditions due to.lipid medication
    Hospitial bill 955,000 baht
