Web Slingers is literally a CLONE of the Legoland Ninjago ride from years ago. Yet another "off the shelf" ride from Disney in a mid tier IP reliant, copy-paste land. At least Slinky Dog is more re-ridable and less tiring. lol I agree that the guardians rides are the best Marvel attractions so far, but they don't fit in their respective parks. On top of destroying their park's respective thematic cohesion, I don't think Mission Breakout works as well as Cosmic Rewind. The spooky ToT vibes fit perfectly with the drop tower ride system, and the exterior wasn't an eyesore. Anyways, great, if overly sweet review.
We are from the UK and have just got back from Paris and we were there opening day. While I agree with you on the industrial aspects of the land and was expecting a little more on the exterior I think you are coming at this as a seasoned american Park goer. We are priced out of coming to America and so for us this was our chance to get a taste of what you guys have had for many years. Disneyland paris had been all but abandoned by disney essentially since the space mountain expansion in 1995. This is a huge step in the right direction. We have nothing to compare it to having had nothing like it before and is a 100% improvement on the backlot. I also think it's a factor of target demographics. My 10 year old hasn't stopped talking about flight force and my 5 year old was amazed and has been playing with his spidey bot for 2 days. Attendance will continue to be high as long as parents keep bringing there children. Coming from a french/British perspective, this is exactly what this park has been crying out for.
At this point I enjoy honest reviews more than visiting the parks. Nailed it with the post-2017 assessment. Too many recent Disney lands have brick walls, tiled floors, and a general atmosphere that is indiscernible from anywhere Disney Springs. ( Galaxy's Edge excepted ) It's like Chester and Hester's 2.0
I completely agree with Tom: each Disney Park needs a unique, highly-themed land with E-Ticket to make it stand out. In addition to Tom's mention of Hong Kong, Tokyo Disneyland has the Beauty and the Beast ride & village. That's why I'm so upset that the Tron coaster got cloned; it fits perfectly with the Shanghai Disneland aesthetic, but is totally out of place in the Magic Kingdom in Florida.
What bothers me the most is that Avengers Campus doesn't "train" guests to become Avengers--it just throws them onto attractions where the storyline is "something has gone wrong and a haphazard solution must be implemented, dragging guests along for the ride". It would be much better if they stuck with the training concept and actually had guests train to use their webslingers throughout the park (like magic wands at Universal), then put their skills to the test on an attraction where they have some control over the outcome.
Agree with this 100% the need to inject peril, instead of training is a little daft and possibly reduces immersion. Flight force could be a train with iron man ride and web slingers could have the spiderbots and a different member of the sinister 6 each time (like star tours)
What you said around 45 minutes is so true. Those animators had incredible imagination and honestly a naïveté that led them to create things no one had done before. Perhaps the actual engineers of the day would have told them their ideas were impossible and they never would have happened. And we all know what Walt said about doing the impossible. We need that sort of ambition and passion again.
I simply fail to understand why Disney refuses just give people what they want. Universal re-created Harry Potter exactly as seen in the films. Why does Disney continue to make up places that don’t exist on film? Star Wars should have been easy to do. Create Naboo, Coruscant, Tattooine, Endor etc. The Falcon ride should have been a blockade run with Han and Chewbacca and Rise should have been an escape from the Death Star. For Marvel Stark Expo for sure should have been a base for everything. This is all too easy but Disney won’t do it.
Considering Star Wars: One of the incentives for Disney I heard to not to go with the original trilogy and characters are special merchandise agreements with George Lucas, where he still participates if original characters are used while Disney participates in full if they create (and sell) their new stuff. That might have been a reason to go full in for the new trilogy and new lands and characters (if this was true, it was stupid and greedy, of course).
I've said before that if they wanna make the Disney Spidey ride ACTUALLY interesting they should include the villains from No Way Home (or at least Norman) screwing with Peter and his inventions. It'd give Peter a chance to banter while also changing up the variety of targets for guests to hit. Adding Andrew and Toby would make things that much more interesting...
The land is a huge upgrade on the backlot that was there before. I personally feel that the Flight Force pre show is an upgrade but the ride itself is a downgrade. I was expecting some ACDC or Black Sabbath not quippy back and forth with Iron Man and Captain Marvel. However the presence of so many CMs does really elevate this land and give it something unique in DLRP. A step in the right direction and great for young fans if not a new mind blowing experience for adults.
The Avengers Assemble Flight Force building reminds me of the "Bird's Nest" from the Beijing Olympics or the Apple Corporate headquarters. Both being circular grey buildings. Great review, Tom! Have fun on the Disney Wish cruise!
As mentioned, the theme-ing at Galaxy's Edge is great.... Unfortunately, other than 2 rides, there's little to do other than shopping, and all the shops have the same products. Yes, there's Savi's workshop, and Droid Depot..... But those are 1) expensive, and 2) limited capacity.... Bottom line, Disney needs to add live shows or something.
Imagine a ride called Doctor Strange: Multiverse Mayhem where you ride through different multiverses on a roller coaster. It would be kind of like the scene with America Chavez and Strange when they fly through the different universes in MoM
DCA has got to build the coaster a.s.a.p. -they can re-do the exisiting building with the jet. Can't do much more with the DCA pym but that top-level meet-and-greet would be a great addition to DCA.
As a French and dlp fan, I think we need more "exotic" land here, I mean if i want to see France I just have to go outside of the park... Disney made this mistake with Ratatouille, a Paris quarter just 40 minutes away from Paris. Honestly we just want what Americans have : Cars land, Galaxy's edge, impressive axperiences that we can't see outside of Disneyland.
Great review Tom, and as DLP is my "Regular Home" park, yeah its a nice upgrade to what was there before, and the characters are great but its not the biggest improvement for how long the park was even worse than before its kind of like is this it? Hopefully those future expansions really deliver! I don't know if Marvel needs ride a to capture the spirit of the comics/movies most of that spirit is in the characters themselves and its something both Campuses do really well. Of course the question comes, if the MCU stops making money what happens to these lands when entertainment is cut?
They probably cut the budget and realized people would come regardless if they put in effort or not. That’s probably why the e ticket is delayed if not canceled already. The whole campus is meh but mainly due to Disney not even trying and just using it as a vehicle for selling their avengers overpriced merchandise at. I hope the quinjet ride lives up to the hype, but the budget will probably get cut and it’ll be a copy of star tours.
Flight force is definitely a downgrade from rock n rollercoaster. RnRollercoaster was so good and now its been replaced by flight force which is just screens that can't be seen anyway and then darkness. And don't even get me started on the trains, god they are torture, who created them?
You really hit the nail on the head about the new Avengers Campus, it really does need something unique to draw in a bigger crowd from afar from other parts of the world than just Europe but what they have done with this new land is definitely a vast improvement from what it once was such as the Rock 'n roll roller coaster! I Hope Disneyland Paris is successful with this new Avengers Campus expansion it isn't completely Marvel-lous but it's a giant leap in the right direction but still like you mentioned earlier in the video Disney could have done alot more to it especially if Mr Krabs (Bob Paycheck) wasn't CEO, now we would have an amazing Disney where the focus is back on the parks and not just solely on Disney+ and it would also be awesome if they could reopen all the Disney stores but sadly that is just being overly hopeful, like that's never going to happen again!
My older daughter is the biggest MCU Spider-Man fan there is and could care less about riding Web Slingers. I 100% agree it’s not a ride. Give it a animatronic and throw the villains into the game.
Another really well done review! I love how you pay attention to all the little details right down to how the finish on a desk looks 👍 Well done Vlog•i•neer👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Well I am in Paris about to do Disneyland Paris Aug 1 -3. I live in the Los Angeles area so I've been to Disneyland countless times and Disney World several times. Can't wait to compare the 3 parks
I agree, that the Retheming from Backlot to Avengers Campus is a big step for the Studios park, but still is lacking the magic somehow. They should have take a little bit more money, demolish the stunt show to build a Dr. strange themed Mystic Manor as the big highlight. Especially it would create point of interest on the long empty and boring walk from Avengers Campus to the new Lake.
Rollercoasters are what you build to fill a land in. When they are being built as the main attraction of a land then your creative team has either lost its edge or they are not being given a budget that is worthy of them or their audience. In the case of Disney they have outsourced most of their imagineering team to cut costs and their new attractions show it.
I hope to one day visit Walt Disney Studios Park again in the future. I was a little disappointed the first time I visited. I thought now I know where everything went that disappeared from MGM Studios.
In the preshow, the iron man suit powers down. That would imply it's not Tony himself (which is a whole continuity breaker on its own with Sam Wilson's Captain America around in the area too), but a remote controlled suit. So he might be doing two things at the same time???? Still... I hate it that they rethemed the Cafe des Cascadeurs to "Super Diner" and not "Shawarma Palace". It is a clear marker that DLP's imagineering is not that savvy on their Marvel and MCU stuff and a HUGE missed opportunity.
We were at DCA last week and experienced Avengers Campus for the first time. I’ll be less measured than Tom in his assessment re: Avengers Campus lands…we thought it was horrible. My son is a huge Spider-Man/Marvel fan and even he was underwhelmed. A lot of concrete, lack of shade while waiting for the underwhelming shows (e.g. slinging of the SpiderMan). We didn’t do web slingers because of wait time and I refuse to buy an ILL. Didn’t take away from the day.
The two best marvel attraction (Design by Retired Imaginers and Universal Creative) is The Amazing Adventures of Spider-Man and The Incredible Hulk Coaster. Disney’s closest ride to that is CosmicRewind. Close, very close.
People don't like the Spiderman Web slinger attraction because...who wants to look at a dorky, clueless Spideman flailing around, and play the role of his janitor? Toy Story Midway Mania doesnt pretend to be anything more than a game, all the characters on screen or trying to help and rooting for you, everyone wins a prize at the end, and the building a line are full of interesting things to look at. The Avengers Coaster only has Tony Stark being talked down to by Captain Marvel and his computer, a bland building with mostly nothing inside, and a last minute threat involving....missiles landing somewhere. What suspense.
France one day a Disney cruise the next, I definitely want to grow up to be just like you. Unfortunately I’m already in my 70’s. Love your reports, keep up the great work.
I wish the Tower of Terror at Disneyland, Paris was turned into the Guardians of the Galaxy: Mission Breakout ride so the Avengers Campus in France could have move than one okay interactive ride and the one sad rollercoaster
Having never been, but I watched the walkthrough, I looked at Google street view and I see how a lot of the existing buildings were converted like you talked about. Also weird to think that the whole stadium for the car show is still back there but I guess that will be taken care of in future expansion.
Tom, what don't you understand about it not being special or unique? With Cheap-ek in charge. Corporate Disney doesn't allow original ideas anymore. Only IP is allowed & duplication moves butts & swallows crowds, but looks & IS done on the cheap. Under this leadership, we will NEVER see the uniqueness of Mystic manor or Haunted mansion, or Pirates. Even Shanghai under Iger they redid Pirates in a remarkable way. You will never see a non-IP ride or originality from this management group. Even if WDI throws them an idea, it will never happen. Walt did pull people & told them that they could do even more than what THEY thought they could do. OLC is the last remaining place where WDI can still show what they can do as seen at DisneySea & maybe soon with the new Space mountain.
I really hope the DLP avengers campus gets a big e-ticket ride to replace the former stunt show arena. Would be great to get the Spider-Man stunt animatronic at some point. In terms of phase 2 of the expansion to the park it’d be great to have a world of colour/ fantasmic show on the lake to have a proper night time show
There really is so little in WDS that makes the park feel special. They absolutely need something unique and spectacular to replace where Galaxy’s Edge was going.
To European fans, Avengers Campus is definitely a huge improvement to what was there before. But from what Disney has done in years gone by, they should be aiming to be the best at what they do. I think that calling it Avengers Campus, the campus suggest that it's more like a college or university feel to it. Maybe if the called it Marvel or Avengers land, would have allowed them to do more with the theming 😀
I agree with pretty much every point that you picked up on. Huge improvement, but still not that spectacular Disney investment that we know that they're capable of. Plus, one thing that you didn't pick up on is the identity of the park. The Avengers Campus doesn't seem to really help it. As much as I love the Tower of Terror at WDS, for the identity of the park it really should be given the GotG theme, and they could turn that whole left side of the park into Avengers Campus. Plus I'm also holding out hope that the old Stunt show arena will eventually get knocked down for a new e-ticket attraction, which would really help that back end of AC.
The issue with Iron Man being in two places could be explained by him using remote Iron Suits like in Spider-Man Homecoming 😅 It opens the question though of how is Ant-Man and the Wasp in two places at the same time, one in nano-battle and the other on Disney Wish helping Captain America (Falcon) and Ms Marvel...
As of this day 5/24/23 with all the construction at Epcot out side of the 2 magic kingdom parks DCA might be the best domestic park is there really a land that makes u feel like ur in an EXACT scene of movie more than cars land?
I hope they’re holding Tower of Terror for a phase two attraction. Maybe Mission Breakout! I suspect they won’t be getting the Avengers Multiverse ride.
Completely agree with evarything you said i think paris needs a decent water ride a water park and some good rides with the latest tech they definitely need a sorin type ride
I think they could have used a major city or two that the Marvel Universe is located. Disney Studios already had old NY and CA. Disney California Adventure had CA. IDK, just seemed to make more sense for me.
On your note about each park having unique attractions. While I really enjoyed my day at Disney Sea, I think it was really hyped up how good that park is. Yes is it very detailed and undoubtedly the best themed park (not best theme park), but I was pretty disappointed in the rides at the end of the day. While some are unique in different ways, most of the major attractions there currently are clones.
20,000 Leagues, Journey to the Center of the Earth, Sindbad’s Storybook Voyage, Electric Railway, Venetian Gondolas, Scuttle’s Scooters, King Triton’s Concert, SeaRider, Fortress Explorations. Magic Lamp Theater, Caravan Carousel, and the Transit Steamer are all wholly unique, that’s a lot.
Great commentary about the lack of a modern E-ticket for Marvel. Disney's biggest Achilles heel is that it is a Hollywood-driven company where the Hollywood executives continue to treat theme parks as the tacky ugly step children of the company - never respecting the cash flow and branding/synergy effects of the parks.
I know.... I know.... My Imagineers suck at Marvel. But look at the brightside, when The Money Hungry Rat Buys out Larry Flint Publications, Larry Flint Chicken will be huge in the parks (We do Chicken Right). I honestly think it will be a far better replacement for this land when it fails (Interactive too!)
We love Disney Genie+ and Lightning Lanes, it's definitely NOT just FastPass for $20. This service might operate exactly like FastPass, but now it costs money 💰 and has a different name. Therefore, it is NOT the same as FastPass. The only difference is that now the guests lose money 💰, and Disney makes EVEN MORE money 🤑! Hooray 👏🎉!
I feel like the idea of smaller, more detailed, IP based lands isn’t a terrible idea in concept. DCA is my favorite park to visit because they have a handful of great rides and plenty to do where you can sit and relax and soak in the theming in between. It’s what I want out of a Disney trip- I’m done trying to cram every ride in every time since I’ve been so often. However, this idea comes with challenges and weaknesses; you run the risk of the IP becoming dated or irrelevant, or having a section of your audience not interested enough to visit. If you don’t throw enough quality detail in, you’ve made a tiny crappy land that eats up space. Avengers Land is… fine, the Agent Carter fan in me loves the references to the SSR and old Stark stuff. Cars Land, a similar concept, is FANTASTIC and my favorite part of DCA. I think they can continue with this concept of smaller IP lands, but they need to tread more carefully.
Hey, this "land" at Disneyland Paris actually looks pretty cool. Yes, it probably could have been done better, but the video made me consider saving up and going. I think Tom is just tired from all the traveling (well, ok, he always makes good points in his commentary).
WDW News, Tom. Avengers Campus, what we are seeing is the best version yet. D.C.A.'s version is missing the extra ride badly. I think they get a B+ for this effort, though some parts are an A. Why with these new attractions is the story line the same? You enter a room where you are told we have to save the universe, space or the planet before going down a long passage to the ride vehicle The end of the ride ends in a vast cold empty room. ( I'm looking at you Guardian's). I suspect the new area look's fantastic at night from the outside. I don't know why Disney won't let Paris D/L really go for a one of a kind new spectacular "E" ticket attraction. Other European parks are starting to up their game and they'll start to give Paris D/L a run for new attractions going foreward. Cheers, Chris Perry.
Don’t know your income, but just IF I could bring my Fam to one of the Properties outside the States I would be thrilled just to see the different designs. Pinching pennies get us to Disney World once every five years. LMAO! 🤣
It looks really good, especially for the Studios Park, however not upgrading Flight Force's trains to the newer Vekoma restraints like Space Mountain is very dissapointing, I assume they simply skimped on the budget as per! Those old rocking rollercoaster restraints have always been awful (and every veokma that has them is also uncofortable), unless they retracked the ride I imagine it's still awful if your ears sit between the shoulder restraints!
It feels like Disney hate this park just as much as I do. They're looking at how much it would cost just to correct the sheer number of flaws, let alone to give it something fresh on top, and they start to panic and put the wallet away. While I have absolutely zero interest in visiting and will spent all my time in the main park, I hope SOMETHING they try will finally hit with success, because its starting to feel like it's taking all the attention and money away from the resort as a whole. And I'm scared of the rest being neglected during the wait
I didn't see much captain america either on top of wakanda - maybe it's too american? Actually a lot of characters. I bet they could've done something with the hulk - like universal studios did (strange they owned the rights at one time).
Imagineering pitch: a fifth gate in Florida devoted to recreating the experience of Bob Chapek desperately trying to bury a freshly deceased escort somewhere along Western Way.
What's the tuition like at Avengers Campus?
Hyuk Hyuk
Overpriced, and the graduates end up working at a theme park.
It’s ugly
In Captain America: Civil War, Tony paid all the MIT student's tuitions...
I want a bugs land back!! God dammit
Web Slingers is literally a CLONE of the Legoland Ninjago ride from years ago. Yet another "off the shelf" ride from Disney in a mid tier IP reliant, copy-paste land. At least Slinky Dog is more re-ridable and less tiring. lol

I don’t think I am, it’s steps away from one of the most beautiful parks ever built. That’s an easy comparison for guests there to make.

Avenger’s Campus wishes it had half the soul Dinoland had.
You shooting your flashy new webshooter only to be disappointed by the results pretty much sums up the experience of both Avengers Campuses.

Thank you for integrating the videos into this monologue.

@@brittariedel3446 its gonna well maybe not anymore
"This thing doesn't work very well..."
Great analogy.
One thing I noticed is that there is so much more trees and bushes and green in general which is something that has been lacking so much in this park
Imagine a ride called Doctor Strange: Multiverse Mayhem where you ride through different multiverses on a roller coaster. It would be kind of like the scene with America Chavez and Strange when they fly through the different universes in MoM

IMO, Crushes Coaster is the best ride, not just in WDS, but both parks. Needs to be brought to the Seas Pavilion and that ride will DRAW!
No thank you, we already have a spinning coaster
42:59 that back wall would work well as a hologram projection constantly moving. Maybe even some of that on the ground too.
If there was to be a unique land at Disneyland Paris, a hunchback of Notre Dame would definitely be unique and french related 😀

We're lucky to have had Joe Rohde for Mission Breakout.
I am not a Marvel fan, but I am curious about meeting a Thor with a French accent 😂
11:00 not treu, there are animatronics in the crush coaster
That’s not an animatronic lol
@@WDWNT the seagulls in the station are (so far as i heard) animatronics.
That building looks like a hockey arena, good call Tom
Having never been, but I watched the walkthrough, I looked at Google street view and I see how a lot of the existing buildings were converted like you talked about. Also weird to think that the whole stadium for the car show is still back there but I guess that will be taken care of in future expansion.
The Frozen ride that Disneyland, Paris will get it's said to have scenes from Frozen 02. That was made officially by Disney
Looking forward to visiting next month, the studios needs all the help it can get
All I'm mad about the Avengers Campus is the fact that the Quinjet ride looks forgotten by Disney
I’ve never encountered a park review of this specificity within the Disney realm. Thanks so much✊🏿
I really hope the DLP avengers campus gets a big e-ticket ride to replace the former stunt show arena. Would be great to get the Spider-Man stunt animatronic at some point.
In terms of phase 2 of the expansion to the park it’d be great to have a world of colour/ fantasmic show on the lake to have a proper night time show
42;12 I have to be honest that sounds amazing. I bet if you were a ride designer - you'd do fabulous!
wait there is 2 parks in paris?
The most interesting part about Avengers Campus is basically that cool picture at the meet and greet.
Not surprising that WEB Slingers is way more popular than Flight Force during the opening day of the land.
There really is so little in WDS that makes the park feel special. They absolutely need something unique and spectacular to replace where Galaxy’s Edge was going.
I like the idea of an avenger's campus - I went to the one in vegas - it was probably the only thing I liked in vegas outside of the VR.
Web Slingers could have been a laser tag arena. get rid of the ride aspect and have the kids run wild shooting at pop ups
They can't name it marvel do to universal rights
I agree with you about Web slingers.
I thought all the campuses would have different main characters but I guess that’s not a thing? (Having Spider-Man’s and iron man’s in multiple parks)
you're right the california adventure isn't really something that makes sense except when you get to the water area. It leaves a little to be desired.
Spot on man!
After watching Tom’s honest review, guess I won’t be enjoying a cigarette with Axel and the Fridge in DLP Studios Park any time soon. :(
It’s better than what was there before but not by much. Sport stadium made me laugh btw.
My favorite ride is the Spider-Man ride at island of adventure has been since I rode it years ago - nothing has come close to it for me
I think Indiana Jones is still the best dark ride ever made. Spiderman is certainly better than Forbidden Journey though.
Hooray 👏🎉!
@@allaccessentertainment4755And boy! We love more money, It means More Chickens, More Hookers, More trips to Bangkok, more Cocaine ;)

@@anevilbobchapek3888 Not really, Thailand 🇹🇭 is an amazing country with friendly people like me 😊! It's a great place to just visit and relax ☺️!
Does this version of avengers campus have a spider man stunttronic
It was planned but budget cut.
I can say this much, I'm happy that the folks that got laid off when Dubailand collapsed are finding work elsewhere
Hey, this "land" at Disneyland Paris actually looks pretty cool. Yes, it probably could have been done better, but the video made me consider saving up and going. I think Tom is just tired from all the traveling (well, ok, he always makes good points in his commentary).
No, my thoughts are well organized, heavily considered, and I think more than fair.
@@WDWNT yes, they are... but you can appear cranky. I appreciate this video and enjoy your fairness.
My gosh. web slingers in DCA was barely worth the single rider walk on wait. Can’t believe they approved this
Don’t know your income, but just IF I could bring my Fam to one of the Properties outside the States I would be thrilled just to see the different designs.
It's not just Brie Larson, you've also got the footage of Tom Holland from Disney California's Web Slingers...albeit in French.
Well said. Very fair
I really would love to see Disney approach universal and get the power to make true marvel lands in Walt Disney World
Gotta agree Tom, they need to pull the trigger on Marvel! Someone call Fiegie!
I didn't see much captain america either on top of wakanda - maybe it's too american? Actually a lot of characters. I bet they could've done something with the hulk - like universal studios did (strange they owned the rights at one time).
Just tell me when they make a Marvel land at least half as good as one made over 23 years
Imagineering pitch: a fifth gate in Florida devoted to recreating the experience of Bob Chapek desperately trying to bury a freshly deceased escort somewhere along Western Way.
when I go to DCA, I'd rather do Tow Mater's than Webslingers....
I don't get why people don't like iron man 2 either - it's my favorite movie of all time!
Lassiter is missed..say what u will
