This RUclips video: Doing the inlay or purfling for the violin of the Quartet of Peace.
Beautiful music and cat make for a very satisfying video.
The cat supervisor xD
This is a beautiful technique. I will have to try it. I can watch these videos for hours, They are marvelous works of art in their own right.
it is incredible the amount of patience that it must require to shape wood into such beautiful musical instruments.....i watch these videos with the hope that they will help me increase my level of patience so i will be better in my own woodworking...
And when the master is out of the house the cat does the PURRFLING

It actually saves the body of the instrument from cracking all the way up if you hit the edge of it. Also it's pretty decorative. + if you check it out, you can see that most of student instruments have this inlayed stripe just painted on them - so it's also an unofficial quality indicator. For me at least.
In a world of instant, it's nice to see someone taking thoughtful deliberate steps. Thanks for sharing.

hey please i have a question !! how to recognize inlaid purfling or painted purfling on a violin !? thank you very much !
ps: wonderful work, your hands are gold
WOW! Thanks.
Lord, give me patience, and give it to me NOW!
Hi Bertie,
This is the natural color of the wood and does not have any dye on it.
I wish it showed him doing it on spruce!
In its previous Life, that Cat was a Luthier !
See how it pays attention !
A very challenging , but very necessary task , Purfling almost stopped me from continuing the build of the instrument... I ruined a top
Many Blessings , SMR
Bravo, Nice job
The Black wood is Ebony

Beautiful work, very impressive!
-What did you use to stain the outer layer black?
- Also, is there a special process to get an even penetration of colour, or is it so thin that the dye simply soaks through?
Thanks
Bertie.
Please tell me the name of the song on this video and the song in your web
Wow - I can't believe you made purfling! Nice work! How did you plane the wood to be so thin? Did you plane it or somehow shear/slice it? Are the three veneers laminated with hide glue?
What is the name of the first tool you used to get your lines please
is beaurefou viola
