Y'know, at the beginning of Jerry's solo you can kind of notice that it took him a minute to feel really free and comfortable. It had been a long time since he'd played that song; took a minute to get it back. But when he found it, he wailed with it!
I find that as I get older I enjoy the later Dead shows. When I was touring in the 80's, I thought I missed out on the 60's and 70's. But, once you hit 40, nothing can match the degree of regret and brokenness in Jerry's voice in the late 80's.
Like I said he didn’t know where I was + nobody knew but big Steve who thought he owned Jerry ! 😵💫😵🥱😴😠🥲😥😢😰🥵🤬🥶🤯blow my head off I didn’t have my daughter so I can’t take my life yet for Jerry but when my time is ready I’ll b with him my Jerry , my soulmate ! ❤️🐇🐰🌹👻Jerry’s ghost because he came to me 5/6 times because the last time he lay on me + kissed me goodbye! I was so sad because I’m so healthy that I just want to go but can’t !

God damn... I get goosebumps every time I watch this. Perhaps, my favorite GD clip ever! Simply sublime! The camera is positioned so perfectly... when all four join in for the chorus... perfect! And that look that Jerry gives the other guys on the last chorus... One of those wonderful moments when we, in the audience, project our emotions onto the band. Just exquisite!

"My Back Pages" and "Desolation Row" rank way up there next to Shakespeare and Homer. When rumors started circulating about Dylan getting a Nobel Prize for Literature, I got really excited and did everything I could to promote it. It took 15 years, but he got it. Needless to say, Dylan's epitaph on Garcia is superb. I'm old myself, turn 65 tomorrow..... Take care of yourself, keep listening.

As someone that was at this show and realized in the moment that it was a wonderful show, I still judged it according to my experiences of listening to 70s shows and being disappointed. However, I agree--brainmed--there is a certain melancholy, perhaps, finality, in Garcia's voice that is extremely convincing. His solos, during this period, though may seem truncated, are--instead-- emotional ladened and to the point .
