- GROWING WALKING CATFISH IN A TANK
Now that we have a spare fish tank, we have decided to go breeding catfish.
We introduced two female walking catfish (Clarias batrachus) and one male, along with plenty of aquatic vegetation. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that they get it on.
Not many people would attempt to grow catfish at home without any water treatment and no oxygen added. So why are we doing it then?
Walking catfish are air-breathing fish, and we have only put a few together to breed, so water quality and oxygen levels aren't an issue. There are also plenty of aquatic plants to help keep the water clean and healthy.
Catfish are easy to farm in warm climates, leading to inexpensive and safe food at local grocers. About 60% of U.S. farm-raised catfish are grown within a 65-mile (100-km) radius of Belzoni, Mississippi. Channel catfish (Ictalurus punctatus) supports a $450 million/yr aquaculture industry.[6] The largest producers are in the Southern United States, including Mississippi, Alabama, and Arkansas.
In Asia, many catfish species are important as food. Several walking catfish and shark catfish species are heavily cultured in Africa and Asia."
I want you to know I intend to absorb as much as I can. I really appreciate your videos. You really explain things nicely, you don't skimp on the details, it's just... Idk but I hope you're teaching and taking interns. You've really got a nice set up now and know a lot of useful info.
The world needs folks like you two
That's very kind of you to say thank you Miles. We do offer homestays & farmstays here on Porpeang Farm Thailand. Guest can do as much or as little as they want.
As always, I love your videos!! You guys are great and for-real. I don't always comment like i should but i truly enjoy watching you two. Thanks

You're very welcome Pauline. Cheers Leigh and Toon.

Still another week of preseason to go then I should be up to full match fishing fitness lol.
Love Bambi in back ground under umbrella she isn’t stupid great dog
Bambi's too posh to be out in the rain when there's an umbrella up for grabs lol.
Now you two look like your enjoying life!😊😎
Very much so thanks Mick.
Nobody can live forever and forward planning is essential. It struck me immediately that the tank you are experimenting with now would make a lovely grave. Situated only a hop, step and jump from your verandah it would save thousands and the cost of a cremation. I would recommend, however, that you invest in a concrete lid rather than rely on the corrugated metal you use at the moment. The proximity of the mango tree would provide shade in due course and would give the appearance of "natural burial" which is all the rage down here at the moment.
Best regards, Nigel.
Truely inspired Nigel. Just one problem . . . It's a papaya tree not mango. Some may say I'm being picky but then again I was picked up on that we had a veranda & not a balcony. The good news is there won't be any of those big red mango ants to eat the deceased.
Thanks again Toon and leigh, hope those catfish don't cook under that tin .
Mr Leigh that small floating plant is called duck weed here in Oz. It is good for the compost pile as well.
If only it would grow quicker than the fish eating it, then this time next year we'd be millionaires!
Good luck. Hope it goes well. My only concern is that the concrete leak out high ph into the water. But if it's an old tank it might not be a problem. U should throw in some banana and guava leaf to lower the ph. If u have Indian almond leaf that's is good to. It also have a antibacterial properties.
Brilliant info thanks Kjell. The tank's about 12 years old but I'll pop a few banana leaves in to be safe.
Cheers Leigh.
favorite channel
Great to hear that. Many thanks Jack.
Good luck with the Catfish
Fingers crossed Graham
Heaven !!! Lock up with two females.....( in the dark ) and plenty of grass to eat , what more do you need ......
Sky Sports & a few cold ones?
A cat in the tank is worth three in the bush. The question is what is a bush worth? Well, what I can tell you is that a bush is worth a frog in a bog when one gopes for a snog - jeez, I need to slow down on the Vodie’s (or speed up to make sense maybe)
Words from the wise as usual Vince.
But the bigger question is, what is the optimum speed at which voddy should be consumed? I've carried out endless research over the years with extremely varied results!
I’ll let you know when I have found nirvana - if at first you don’t succeed try try again.
Toon just like my missus when you been with them along time they resort to the big sensible under garments sorry could not miss them 5555555
Why are there ads at the beginning of ya video's? This has to be the best one for a while ..prob because toon did most of the filming 😉😆
If you enjoy the videos and have the time to watch the ads.We will be able to watch more.x
You just like her swearing Gary lol.
Not fiddled with the ad settings so not a scooby on that one. Not turning off monetizing because we need some new flip-flops soon lol.

How is the trio going so far ? Any sexy time yet 😂👍
We had one escapee which Klopp was happy to see, which leave hopefully one breeding pair, fingers crossed. Cheers Leigh and Toon.
Toon & Leigh porpeang farm Thailand oh I bet he enjoyed that, hopefully one of the girls and not the only boy 👍
Luckily it was the smaller female catfish so hopefully all is still OK.
How do the eels make babies. Is there any chance a baby eel could be lurking in a slight indent in the cement. Boy I love watching you two. How very smart you are, and to see what two people working togeather can accomplish. Could I tell you about some lazy stupid spoiled people in America.grrrrrrrrrrr😤😤😤😤🤪🤪🤪🤪🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
Hi PL - super emptied & checked the tank. Anything that's in there other than catfish will be eaten by them for sure.
We haven't got a clue about how Thailands freshwater eels spawn but there seems to be lots of them this year.
Cheers Leigh and Toon.
