What a lot of people don’t realize is that Patrick reached an Eb5 in his mix at 3:08 That is absolutely unheard of even in a studio. He did an insane job with the vocals. Don’t care what anyone says.
he hits an E5 at the end of This Ain't a scene this is a goddamn arms race and there are song where goes even higher in the studio version of this song he hits a F#5 in the bridge "i'm just here for the for the..." he's so amazing 😍
Everyone who is concerned about Patrick's voice: Pete Wentz was tweeted and was sent these comments because people were concerned about Patrick's voice. According to Pete, this doesn't hurt Patrick or his voice at all. If you want, you can look at Pete's exact tweet, but I just wanted to let everyone know here that this issue has been discussed. :)
BlueFire29 TV. Good. I loved the chorus like this, but I was really worried about Patrick. But I trust that he knows what he's capable of, and if he thinks he can keep singing it this way, then by all means, let him.
BlueFire29 TV They've always been careful about his voice, so I figured as much :D Thanks for the clarification. Would be a shame if he did ruin his voice, as it is so unique!
Adayla Hudson-Price he still wears it occasionally. He wore it during the sunfest show (aka Andy's birthday show) but said sometimes it's hard to travel with it.
I felt bad for Patrick during all the "young and menace"'s during the the more electronic part, he looked like he was having a hard time trying to do the repeative parts. His voice seemed to start to crack, and as a vocalist I understand that that song is hard to sing. Anyways, Pat sounded really good other wise. I enjoyed it, but still the song is a pain in the butt to sing.
He did it completely without the autotune voice which is totally impressive and it's so rare to see musicians do that when performing live so you just gotta love them 🙌🏼
I couldn't have said it better myself. That song would be hard to sing without the autotune voice, but Patrick did the best and while his voice was cracking here and there. He still sounded great for the most part. I enjoyed the song
I dont know why every is like "when will they learn you cant sing a dubstep chorus" I think Patrick killed it! I like this way better than the normal version honestly.
Me too, but I'm just concerned about Patrick straining his voice like that. It sounded amazing, but if he keeps doing that, he could permanently damage his voice.
i don't want to seem like a fangirl who loves everything FOB does no matter what but I actually enjoyed the performance a lot and I think Patrick did a great job!
When I heard this song for the first time I thought about how are they going to do the chorus part on a live situation. I guess they didn't think this part through as well. Still love them though :)
Kfir Ochaion I don't think it was that they didn't think it through. I think it was more so that they don't use audio tracks the way they should. Their thinking was in the wrong spot and the live approach was off because of it. They did great though!
Kfir Ochaion it’s more pretty during there tour show when Patrick plays it on the piano an it’s just him and the piano and they don’t do the weird thing for the chorus I love it ( this video was really awkward )
I definitely agree. You can definitely tell they've never performed this song before, so I'd be willing to bet they treated this as a trial run. They'll figure out what to do by the time they start the tour.
Guys Patrick has an amazing soul voice and he wouldn't do anything to affect it I'm sure he's had a really long career with harder songs then this vocally! I'm not trying to be rude as us fans care about our favorite bands but these guys are professionals and know how to work the system! I personally love this song so very much live and recorded it's so good I do my work outs to it since I'm a dancer! But yeah guys I truly thing that his beautiful soul voice will survive this song!
Ginna Crouse I bet Bruce Lee thought the same thing while intensely working and training everyday, and look where that got him; an early death from overworking and exhaustion. We are just worried about Patrick straining his voice so much that it damages his vocal cords like Adele. We are also worried about him if he is working hours and hours intensely trying to perfect his voice.
Lu from what i've heard/read, the way the song was composed they should easily be able to do that. but something tells me it wasn't really their choice for this show at least
Lu totally agree. The chorus sounded so rough with the high pitched voice in the back. For the small parts without it, Patrick sounded just fine. The rest of the song was great though.
For the circumstances of the song and the incredibly difficult electronic influences I think they actually pulled this off SUPER well. Sure, Pat was struggling a bit but that just goes to show his vocal power that he could make a techno-rock song like this work. I'm super proud of them, they have come so far as a band and developed their sound so much.
when i watched this for the first time my cousin and me were in the back of our cottage and we heard joe doing his backing vocals and we were like "BOY WhAT" And started screaming and slapping our hand on or knees LIKE HOLY COW JOE U GO MAN
FOB accomplished the impossible: Performing an EDM song live with actual instruments. This is incredibly difficult and the amount of technical ability and talent on this stage is under appreciated. Kings!
To be honest I thought they were gonna let the audio just do the chorus. I'm sure any other band would've took the easy way out, but I'm so glad that they put in the work to actually make it work. Now I heard Patrick sounded a little strained, but he will get better with more practice. I commend all their hard work for this. Love you guys! 💜
He does! Such a fantastic voice, can really sing some really high notes that other singers can't do, just a shame that the chorus doesn't coincide with his brilliant voice.
SomehowStillSane Yes definitely! First time, don't blame them for being a bit out of rhythm, thats okay! They will get the hang of it and nail it like all their other songs
It was great on the verses but with the chorus Patrick needs to give himself a break, put those voices on the backing track and just go mental with the guitars and the drums. He's gonna wear out his voice if he keeps doing that. But great job for first performance!
I thought that was going to be the way they would play it live, but I actually liked that Patrick sang on the chorus with that distortion. Who knows, maybe they'll change it up. I liked it quite a bit like this because Pat is so into it, and a recording will never emule his passion while singing live. I'm just sad that they are getting quite the backlash for this track, recorded and live.
+Crybaby! at the Disco thanks and thats correct... i love yours too i'm actually a crybaby too and i want to incorporate it into my user name but i don't klnow how i would do that without wrecking the entire structure
I personally think patrick did awesome for such a hard song! Not everyone will like it and that's fine, but I'm so proud of this fandom being so supportive of them regardless
Aw I feel so bad they seem really nervous :/ I hope people hating on the song didn't discourage them, there are still loads of fans who love the song and this was a good performance ❤
I feel so bad for Patrick, you can hear he's straining his voice during the chorus, it's a hard song to perform live so he's done pretty well but you can tell it's definitely hurting his voice
i was so excited to hear this live, and i was not disappointed but hopefully they find a better way to do the chorus so patrick doesn't strain his voice i really love it tho
They did a piano version during the Mania tour and I will not rest until they release that officially because it was the most incredible thing I've ever heard
This song is so hard to play live. I'm concerned for Patrick's voice. He did his utter best, and nailed it, but it looked like he was having such a hard time during the chorus. Hope this doesn't affect his voice in the long run. Also, loved it whenever he deepened his voice.
This song is still new to them. The band is not used to this kind of music but you can see that there 're trying to improve. I'm 100% sure they'll work it out and make the song sound perfect even in the live shows. Until then I'm gonna enjoy the studio version. Keep it up boys, you've already achieved so much and I know you can do so much more.
Pat looked like he was about to die of dissapointment in himself at the end, but he didn't need to, for their first performance of this song he did really well
If anyone ever tells me that patrick stump can't sing, i'm going to punch them. He pulled off that dubstep chorus ridiculously well, instead of just putting a vocal backing track, he sang it too, which is really freaking difficult.
A lot of the comments are saying Patrick looks sad, but I think he's just shy. Joe looks looks like a pretty happy dude, Andy was smiling at Jimmy and Pete is just Pete :) I feel like they would be awkward just randomly smiling at the end if Jimmy is talking to the camera/audience. In other interviews they were talking about how excited they were to try out the new sound and this was the tv debut so there obviously not tired of it.
PATRICK LOOKED REALLY SAD LIKE HE MESSED UP REALLY BAD NO PATRICK BEAN YOU DID GOOD THERE THERE YOU DID AMAZING YOU KILLED IT I WAS WRONG ABOUT THIS SONG AT FIRST THEN I LOVED IT NOW I LOVE IT EVEN MORE GOOD JOB GUYS LOVE YOU
This song is really difficult to perform to be honest, you can hear the strain on Patrick's voice, which is bad for his vocal health. Also the chorus sounds so weird when Patrick sings over the high pitched vocals. But it's still a good performance, I still enjoyed it!
Madeleine Sky he is not singing over the high pitched voice, the high pitched voice is generated automatically via vocal effect over his voice, if he doesn't sing the high pitched voice wouldn't be there. I asume he does it that way in order to make the song more pure since they are generating all the sounds themselves. Nevertheless I personally wouldn't mind if they put the voices on the chorus in a backing track so that he doesn't hurt his voice...
I think if they used a vocal synthesizer that kicked off with a pedal instead of playing a pre-recorded track it might be a bit easier. As it is that was much better than I was expecting.
Releasing something like this as a pop single is a really bold move, to be honest. That drop resembles those experimental genres of electronic music youd find really far down on music genre icebergs much more then pop music
even if the band was "off track" or "lost rhythm", cut em some slack. first time performing this! they know that they still need to rehearse, but they got a chance to perform it for the first time!
No one can complain about this, cause the vocals on this that he pulled off are insane. They are a rare band where they are good live and on record, so you try pulling the all nighters they did to get where they are. This band will always have hardcore fans.
I think they could maybe modify the chorus to make it easier for Patrick to sing. They did an amazing job though, the chorus would be an absolute b*tch to sing live. 💜💜
Man, that was cool. I give them huge credit for actually doing the pitch shift transitions live and all. It takes immense coordination and the result they got wasn't album-exact, but it was impressive nonetheless.
I know some of the most hardcore Fall Out Boy fans - saw Fall Out Boy when they were playing in small 10-15 people venues and getting booed - and even they're not buying this crap. It's one thing to be a dedicated fan, but it's another to be a sheep and lick every shit they put out. Be a real fan, hold your band/music to the standard you expect from them. This isn't one of them.
tbh i think they need to improve on the chorus. they had to figure how to play it live but they did it! patrick's voice was amazing and he SO into it. to me, this song sounds heavy live, which is great. (i love it). but this was, overall, a good performance! i'm proud of you boys.
Makenna Phelan they could either just leave the high pitched part where they can just do their thing (or headbang) or let patrick sing the chorus (it will be difficult though) i hope there will be improvements on the performance soon
hoodeddmoo Yeah I agree it would be tough to sing all of that. I think Patrick shouldn't sing over the high pitched part and do what they did in the video where he sang in the chorus but not exactly over the high pitched part
just like the rest of us, Pete looks proud of Patrick during the chorus like, every now and then, he'd send him a small smile and that's nice. the guys all played passionately, as usual, and that was wonderful. Andy plays so hard he looks exhilarated, Joe plays next to Patrick in what looks (to me) in a reassuring way in the end, and then Pete's smiles? I hope They all feel good about this performance. my boys did well and the song is incredible. Props to them :)
People like to hate on Patrick for struggling to sing this.... but they forget 90% of male singers don't have Patrick's vocal talent and wouldn't even be able to sing any of it
Everyone in the comments sounds like a parent trying to tell their kid that it's okay that the glitter is all over the place because at least the kid made something and it's great! And you don't wanna crush the kids spirit so you just clean up the glitter when they're not looking and hang the picture from the fridge showing the kid how happy you are.
I don't want hear anyone trashing this...especially the chorus! What they did was bold and unique and Patricks vocals were brilliant, I mean he literally matches the speed and pitch of the EDM it's quite incredible
patrick trying to sing the repeating parts is the struggle we all face when we belt it out in our rooms
except he has to play it in front of people 0_o
CnLiOnUeD And make it sound good
Trash. Just,Trash I love that ur profile pic is Brendon Urie and ur watching a

What do you mean? Andy is the dad of all of them.
Youngblood_ 12 The only band member who doesn’t have a child or children is Joe 😊
lol that's Andy!
Megan Amber Joe has a daughter called Ruby, and another child coming soon
Fall Out! at the My Chemical Phandom weird! When I looked it up to double check it only said he was married. My bad, all the band members are fathers
"Then they said how do you have a soul voice and he said yo watch this,"
*young and menace plays*
"Yo THAT SOUNDS LIKE SOUL"
SamanthaIsDunWit You have you heard Patrick's solo albums?

he's so amazing 😍
Fucking facts
Just ignore all those male tenors who can hit higher notes
@@bt3743consider the fact that Patrick is a baritone and it's much more impressive
STOP MAKING THE MIC STANDS TOO TALL FOR PATRICK!!!!!
Poor lil guy 😢
Dirvinator too tol for smol
Dirvinator "thanks pete" -APMA's
actually they should make mic stands shorter for Patrick because he can seriously fuck up his voice
Dirvinator "look at how little I am. I'M A LITTLE GUY"
bet they did that on purpose tohave the iconic ''thanks pete'' moment again

Adayla Hudson-Price he still wears it occasionally. He wore it during the sunfest show (aka Andy's birthday show) but said sometimes it's hard to travel with it.

Jennifer Resch I do love them, so much. But I tend to be a music critic, and it was pretty stellar that they did it without Autotune.
ChapstickFace ! you are
olan official A music Critic?
I couldn't have said it better myself. That song would be hard to sing without the autotune voice, but Patrick did the best and while his voice was cracking here and there. He still sounded great for the most part. I enjoyed the song
JOE SINGING BACKUP VOCALS IS A BLESSING
YES
I dont know why every is like "when will they learn you cant sing a dubstep chorus" I think Patrick killed it! I like this way better than the normal version honestly.
Me too, but I'm just concerned about Patrick straining his voice like that. It sounded amazing, but if he keeps doing that, he could permanently damage his voice.
HolyHound I'm with you. I thought it was flawless as is the case with all of the performances I see them do live.
HolyHound
He did great
i don't want to seem like a fangirl who loves everything FOB does no matter what but I actually enjoyed the performance a lot and I think Patrick did a great job!
HolyHound ikr
When I heard this song for the first time I thought about how are they going to do the chorus part on a live situation.
I guess they didn't think this part through as well. Still love them though :)
I love your work dude!
Kfir Ochaion I don't think it was that they didn't think it through. I think it was more so that they don't use audio tracks the way they should. Their thinking was in the wrong spot and the live approach was off because of it. They did great though!
They likely had it figured out way before they recorded it. It sounds even better live because it has the human element.
Kfir Ochaion it’s more pretty during there tour show when Patrick plays it on the piano an it’s just him and the piano and they don’t do the weird thing for the chorus I love it ( this video was really awkward )
But not gonna lie this still sounds good and so does the album version too
my baby patrick is glowing

I wouldn't have mind if they just played a track for the chorus while rocking out like the music video with Patrick ad libbing occasionally
Aaron Vitug just every so often "YOUNG AND A MENACE"
heavy agree, would sound and look a lot better. im not a big fan of this song, i just wanted to see how they would do it live.
I definitely agree. You can definitely tell they've never performed this song before, so I'd be willing to bet they treated this as a trial run. They'll figure out what to do by the time they start the tour.
Crystal The Luxio Hopefully because if so then this one will be epic live when it's super loud
I think all the choruses should be like the second one! If you listen carefully the high pitch voice is turn down on this one.
Jewel 7 7 Jewel yes! I think exactly the same!
Sound guys may have found it jarring the first time through and turned it down.
I liked it better too.
*pete's voice * yoooo this is gonna be f*cking DOOOOPPPPEEE

He has had a rlly long career
Edward Xia bruce lee died from a combination of cerebral edema and equagesic lol
I feel like tey should have played it without the high pitched voice on the background, like a clean live version (?)
Lu would work much better
Lu from what i've heard/read, the way the song was composed they should easily be able to do that. but something tells me it wasn't really their choice for this show at least
Yes and I want the to release a version of it without the vocal manipulation
Lu totally agree. The chorus sounded so rough with the high pitched voice in the back. For the small parts without it, Patrick sounded just fine. The rest of the song was great though.
Play the high vocals in the back ground but have a heavy (ish) guitar part instead of trying to keep up with the vocals.
For the circumstances of the song and the incredibly difficult electronic influences I think they actually pulled this off SUPER well. Sure, Pat was struggling a bit but that just goes to show his vocal power that he could make a techno-rock song like this work. I feel so bad for Patrick
He has such a wonderful voice, but this chorus is just impossible to sing :((
Alraesys he is sick
He does! Such a fantastic voice, can really sing some really high notes that other singers can't do, just a shame that the chorus doesn't coincide with his brilliant voice.
impossible for anyone except patrick stumpy stump
you could definitely tell this was their first time performing it live, but it wasn't bad. they just need to work out the kinks with the chorus.
SomehowStillSane finally someone said it the right way
couldn't have said it any better. its a good song, they performed it well but they just need to work out the little kinks
SomehowStillSane Yes definitely! First time, don't blame them for being a bit out of rhythm, thats okay! They will get the hang of it and nail it like all their other songs
2:14 I love what Patrick did when he sang "oops I did it again"
Patrick's smile at 2:53 cured my depression.
It was great on the verses but with the chorus Patrick needs to give himself a break, put those voices on the backing track and just go mental with the guitars and the drums. He's gonna wear out his voice if he keeps doing that. But great job for first performance!
yeah and hes playing guitar at the same time

Mikey Wentz I think Patrick mentioned that it's hard to travel with or something so he doesn't really wear it anymore
RIP Fedoras
He said if he put it in his briefcase/bag it would "smoosh" or something
Hey I'm Patrick, look it mer trucker hat
I did the same thing... It wasn't even intentional

Hotpocket Wentz I felt bad for him during the chorus.
Hotpocket Wentz it's because he doesn't have his fedora
i was so excited to hear this live, and i was not disappointed
but hopefully they find a better way to do the chorus so patrick doesn't strain his voice
i really love it tho
Yeah,I could hear the strain too,it was painful to hear it
Champion sounded much much better
patrick stump's hand maybe he should sing it lower instead of going too high It would probably should great
patrick stump's hand 3:38 - 3:44 sounded really good with his voice low like that.

IRINKA no, you're not
Pat looked like he was about to die of dissapointment in himself at the end, but he didn't need to, for their first performance of this song he did really well
If anyone ever tells me that patrick stump can't sing, i'm going to punch them. He pulled off that dubstep chorus ridiculously well, instead of just putting a vocal backing track, he sang it too, which is really freaking difficult.
A lot of the comments are saying Patrick looks sad, but I think he's just shy.
Joe looks looks like a pretty happy dude, Andy was smiling at Jimmy and Pete is just Pete :)
I feel like they would be awkward just randomly smiling at the end if Jimmy is talking to the camera/audience.
In other interviews they were talking about how excited they were to try out the new sound and this was the tv debut so there obviously not tired of it.
*screaming internally bc they all absolutely killed it*
Trash. Just,Trash TRUE
Oh, pat stump, you're still the damn cutest.
When jimmy waves to Andy and he just holds up a peace sign
PLS PROTECT THE PRECIOUS
Patrick voice is so awesome!
hiii!! please check out my latest cover of Champion by Fall out Boy!
JOE WAS SINGING! 😱💜
I am in love with their drummer...
Agreed. Andy is really cute.
dope song but singing the 'dubstep' parts is a little weird
namegirl12 ikr
even if the band was "off track" or "lost rhythm", cut em some slack. first time performing this! they know that they still need to rehearse, but they got a chance to perform it for the first time!
1:19 *SHEEP SCREAMING IN THE DISTANCE*
lol
No one can complain about this, cause the vocals on this that he pulled off are insane. They are a rare band where they are good live and on record, so you try pulling the all nighters they did to get where they are. This band will always have hardcore fans.
Yall did good don't be disappointed patrick
placenta
OMG I FUCKING LOVE FOB
I think they could maybe modify the chorus to make it easier for Patrick to sing. They did an amazing job though, the chorus would be an absolute b*tch to sing live. 💜💜
Wendigo Hood Yeah cause the chorus is electronic
Can we take a moments to appreciate the repeating part, and how he continues normally after it? MAH BOY PATRICK
Omg....I'm so excited for their new album, +Joe looks amazing
okay so purple aesthetic, nice nice, but what about that neON COWBOY
Sounded much better with Patrick just singing the chorus without having the awful chipmunk vocal on top.
David Sobiegraj So true I actually like this song but I hate that chipmunk voices.
David Sobiegraj I totally agree
But like
I love this a shit ton
My crops are flourishing and my skin is clear
That they can do this song live at all is EPIC... It's crazy technical and reverbed and the voice skipping thingy... For real, mad skills! :D
Man, that was cool. I give them huge credit for actually doing the pitch shift transitions live and all. It takes immense coordination and the result they got wasn't album-exact, but it was impressive nonetheless.
Its such a hard song to do live they nailed it tho
Yep they nailed a shit song.
the song is not shit, it's a fucking masterpiece
biebsgrande very true
I know some of the most hardcore Fall Out Boy fans - saw Fall Out Boy when they were playing in small 10-15 people venues and getting booed - and even they're not buying this crap. It's one thing to be a dedicated fan, but it's another to be a sheep and lick every shit they put out. Be a real fan, hold your band/music to the standard you expect from them.
This isn't one of them.
Jimbahiya i am a real fan?? I like their old shit but i like their new shit too? The fuck u tryna accuse me of
That was beautiful!
okay but he rly pulled off singing the chorus
"Yo, I got a soul voice" 2:02
That thing at 2:32 with his hands looks like that weird thing he did with his hands in the beginning of this ain't a scene, it's an arms race
tbh i think they need to improve on the chorus. they had to figure how to play it live but they did it! patrick's voice was amazing and he SO into it. to me, this song sounds heavy live, which is great. (i love it). but this was, overall, a good performance! i'm proud of you boys.
hoodeddmoo yes the song live was amazing! but I do feel like they should improve on the chorus, especially with the high pitched part
Makenna Phelan they could either just leave the high pitched part where they can just do their thing (or headbang) or let patrick sing the chorus (it will be difficult though) i hope there will be improvements on the performance soon
hoodeddmoo Yeah I agree it would be tough to sing all of that. I think Patrick shouldn't sing over the high pitched part and do what they did in the video where he sang in the chorus but not exactly over the high pitched part
just cut the high pitched backing track out, lol. The song would be nice without it imho.
agree, patrick should sing it like the last chorus, it sounded sweet, i think you shouldn't sing the dubstep part
lol you can tell that it is going to improve so much the next time we hear it just because of the look on patrick's face when they where done.
THANK YOU
I didn't expect him to actually sing the chorus but OMG PATRICCKKKKKKKKKK HE CAN MAKE ANYTHING FUCKING SOUND GOOD
just like the rest of us, Pete looks proud of Patrick during the chorus
like, every now and then, he'd send him a small smile and that's nice. the guys all played passionately, as usual, and that was wonderful. Andy plays so hard he looks exhilarated, Joe plays next to Patrick in what looks (to me) in a reassuring way in the end, and then Pete's smiles? I hope They all feel good about this performance. my boys did well and the song is incredible. Props to them :)
Homicide AndGlitter it's sad bc pat looks super disappointed in the end :(
peete wints I did happen to see that, but I hope he comes to realize they all did well :(
This is dope 😁🎸🔥
Patrick's deep voice though
People like to hate on Patrick for struggling to sing this.... but they forget 90% of male singers don't have Patrick's vocal talent and wouldn't even be able to sing any of it
I keep on replaying 3:08
Those vocals😍💜🔮🙌✨
his voice gives me chills and tingles
Patrick: me-e-e-e-enace
My brain: Sheep
honestly i would love to see this live, but sadly i’m broke and they already came to my state. :(
but anyway, GREAT JOB ON THIS I LOVED IT SO MUCH
Everyone in the comments sounds like a parent trying to tell their kid that it's okay that the glitter is all over the place because at least the kid made something and it's great! And you don't wanna crush the kids spirit so you just clean up the glitter when they're not looking and hang the picture from the fridge showing the kid how happy you are.
luluellie Hmmmg I feel like that
HAHA YEESSSSSSSSSSSSS. We are all trying to give them love ... but, gosh they're making it so hard
luluellie this is my favorite comment ever
I feel like that's more for the studio version than this version. Patrick actually really fucking killed it with the vocals, chorus aside.
luluellie lmao no i actually really like it
I don't want hear anyone trashing this...especially the chorus! What they did was bold and unique and Patricks vocals were brilliant, I mean he literally matches the speed and pitch of the EDM it's quite incredible
FALL OUT BOY! FALL OUT BOY! FALL OUT BOY! FALL OUT BOY! FALL OUT BOY! YAAAAAAAASSSS!!!
