- A panel of Dalit activists and a political leader shared their stories of oppression and struggle at India Today Conclave 2019 session 'Why We Marched'. Singer and Dalit activist Bant Singh, whose daughter was raped when she was in Class 10, shared his long fight for justice. He spoke about his daughter who gave him the strength to survive and fight despite his limbs being amputated after he was attacked by upper caste people in his village.
Dalit activist and Magsaysay Award winner Bezwada Wilson, who was born in Karnataka's Kolar in a family of manual scavengers, said "In our country, we have no concept of equality. Even today more than 1.6 lakh people clean human excreta by hand and they are an invisible lot."
Meanwhile, Gujarat MLA Jignesh Mevani, who was also present at the same session, said, "This is all one big circus and while we have the technology to discover water on Mars, we have not found the technology to help manual scavengers."

@Truth Reigns First of all since you are repeatedly and deliberately using the term "lower caste people" over and over gain here instead of using SC/ST or even Dalits, I assume you are from upper caste or from another religion. Your kind of people are actually stopping this menace of Caste System to go. Yes your kind of people. There are many General Caste people who are illiterately arrogant, have not achieved anything and thus to hide their inferior complexity use this as a moronic tool to feel good. Similarly there are many SC/ST people who have now made up their mind to use this as a medium forever and continue taking advantage of the Constitutional Takeaways which were ought for a certain amount of time in certain context. They themselves don't want to come outside of it in fear, I know. Such people from all the castes must be taught a lesson. The question that arises here is HOW?
1) By gradually taking Reservation from GROUP based to INDIVIDUAL based. Since most of the poor people are from SC/ST even today, so reservation in the form of assistance based on 'Individual Need' will help them more than other Castes, even more than what they are getting now bcoz there will be no rich SC/ST then to eat up their right. How will it be implemented? Answer-By making a honest Score Card based on Unique Identification Number(AADHAR) and keep updating it from time to time. I know this will require certain amount of infrastructure and also our unorganized sector needs to be mainstreamed for this which is rapidly going on.
2) By freeing temples from Govt Control and utilizing the fund to open Vedic Schools all across India wherein People irrespective of Caste and Varna will learn Sanskrit and Vedas and not only know by themselves the reality of Caste as propagated but also interpret it and update it from time to time as and when required.
3) Ban on evangelical NGOs who come here in the name of helping poor but secretly get into large scale conversion by cashing in the need and insecurity of the poor.
4) Implementing Uniform Civil Code for all and not giving special privileges to specially those Minority Religions whose headquarter is outside like MNCs and is anyway very strong internationally. That is, by really becoming Secular in true sense i.e, by keeping EQUAL distance from all religions

The Secretary of kerala regional office asked me some money for the fellowship. I cannot give money.so that year i lost the fellowship. It is not a silly thing for me. I am net holder in malayalam literature and preparing for the lecture ship exam. That fellowship is important for me. Corruption is everywhere even sahitya academy. We never get ambedkar fellowship. The person(Bant Singh) who spoke first was telling his story that what happened after his daughter get raped by upper caste people. The sad fact is his daughter was engaged at the time she get raped. He went to filed a case against them but police tried to convince him by offering 10-20 lacs rupees. He rejected that offer and answered "I have 4 girls and 4 boys, I will get tired counting all the money". According to him he got 8 children and his Dignity is more important than anything else. After that he got cut his arms and legs by people. Also, he is writer, singer, and trying to stay hard wiith Dalits. So that's the story of Mr. Bant Singh. The message he wants to give us that no matter whatever going to happened, do not lose your dignity.

Can anyone please translate what Mr Bant Singh was saying ? I’m from down south and couldn’t understand punjabi . I could feel the pain but I want to know what’s he saying . His words are too important for me . Could anyone please translate 🙏🏻

The person Bant Singh who spoke first was telling his story that what happened after his daughter got raped by upper caste people. The sad fact is that his daughter was engaged at the time she get raped. He went to file against them but police tried to convince him by offering him 10-12 lakhs rupees. He rejected that offers and answered " I have four girls and four boys, I will get tired of counting money". According to him he got 8 children and his dignity is more important than anything else. After that he got cut his arms and legs by some people. Also he was a singer, writer and trying to stay hard with Dalits. So that's the story of Mr Bant Singh. The message he wants to give us is that "No matter what ever is going to happen, do not lose dignity"
Hats off to this guy though his arms and legs are now amputated!

We must to what ever that is in our ability to ensure backward people and rural people get their fair share in county’s development. They’re being left out since independence. There’s only poverty inclusion in books but not on ground 🔥
when ask from where you get inspiration to punish the cruel culprits...he says i am son of Baba Jiwan Singh(follower of Guru Gobind Singh)....he is not afraid of anyone.....according to him Modi is Big Lier......and same goes with Captain Amrinder of congress......
इस मंच पर बैठे तीनों लोग वाल्मीकि समुदाय से हैं जबकि sc में जाटवों की आबादी 65% के करीब है लेकिन मंचासीन एक भी व्यक्ति जाटव नही , कुछ समय पहले भी जागरण समाचार पत्र ने भी दलित साहित्य पर मंच पर 3 लोग वाल्मीकि समुदाय से बुलाय और उस मंच पर दलितों में फुट डालने की कोशिश हुई और इस मंच पर भी यही काम हो रहा
