    new owner here. After watching a couple of videos, yours has given me the confidence to do the job. I have an empty storage box for screws/ nuts etc. I have the idea of putting every fastener in a the compartment next to it as I remove them. Then when I install the gasket following the video, I will have them at my fingertips without searching for them in a box.

      Congratulations on getting a Z! Great plan with storage box. Keeping parts and fasteners organized is essential to project success. I'm so glad the video gave you the push you needed - I'm sure you will do great. Thanks for watching!

    I’m am so happy that I left Maine and the ridiculous inspection system 8 years ago. It supposed to be a SAFETY inspection, and someone is going to have to explain to me how a minuscule leak in a valve cover gasket is a safety issue! BTW, that M52B28 engine is an INLINE 6 cylinder, not a V6 :-)

    • @mainejason
      @mainejason  Год назад

      I agree about the inspection system. I often see vehicles on the road that cannot possibly have passed inspection.
      Thank you for the correction - I certainly misspoke as the cylinders are obviously in a "straight" line!!
      Thanks for watching!

    I have a 2001 Z3 with 53k miles and I replaced my valve cover gasket back in January. Definitely cheaper to do yourself.

    Well done mate, a brilliant how to; didn't work out what you'd missed - what was it? I'm a Brit. expat living in France and have just got hold of a 2000 3.0i with 123,000 miles on the clock - just about run in😉. What a sweet car; pretty much pristine all round and has just passed the Controle Technique, the all round inspection here which is valid for two years and provided emissions are okay they're not fussed about a little gasket oil seepage. I have a similar oil leak caused by the gasket and the replacement kit is on order, together with half a dozen Denso iridium spark plugs which IMO really do improve/enhance engine performance. With your very helpful guidance I'm Looking forward to the job and saving some spond's too.

    Great video! However, after I assembled everything I found a long black plastic part that I realized from my photos was supposed to fit on top of the cam. Is this the part (oil baffle) you were talking about? Also, does this mean I have to do the whole job over again? Thanks for the video and your response.

      Your comment sounds exactly like the internal conversation I had with myself when I realized the same thing!
      Yes, that is indeed the part I was referring to.
      I have not reinstalled the part on my Z3 and have noticed no issues yet.
      I do not race my Z, or otherwise beat it too hard while driving, but that's been my experience.
      Thanks for the comment!

    The oil baffle! I just did mine today after watching your video and I have to say my engine is browner compared to yours. (273000km on the clock) And weird thing is that there is a lot of crude over the top of the oil baffle but underneath it was clean. Wonder if this points to something being off? Maybe PCV or smth?

    • @mainejason
      @mainejason  11 месяцев назад

      Good eye! That's a lot of miles, so I would expect to see a bit more wear. What is your oil change interval? I changed mine every season regardless of millage, so there was really no chance for sludge to form. Interesting thought about the PCV. Glad the video helped you out, and thanks for watching!

      @@mainejason Well, i bought the car during Covid back in 2020 and I always change the oil every 6 months or 8000km. But there is no service record provided by the previous owner, so can't comment about the 220k km that the car had prior.

      Gotcha. In that case, sounds like it will be a fun project car with plenty of opportunities for some wrenching!

    I've got a 1999 z3 with 62,000 miles on the odometer. I see this job in my future. Just curious, how many miles do you have on your z3?

      Nice! My Z has 69,000. I also just replaced the top as well - big job! I'm working on the video. Fortunately the valve cover gasket is pretty easy. Good luck, and thanks for watching!
