Does Howard realize how huge his mastery of the instrument actually is? He can literally play ANYTHING on that 10 hole beast. These lessons he gives are Gold. I do appreciate his demos without the overblows & overdraws, for I am one of those poor souls who still can’t work it out, and/or lack any control over them when I do. Levy’s playing and his lessons are always an inspiration to continue practicing and challenging myself to be a better player/musician. And many thanks to Mr. Levy for bringing some needed respect to that little metal sandwich.
I remember for YEARS listening to the Flecktones' old stuff (think Sinister Minister) and trying to figure out what that sound even *was* that I was hearing. This man literally brings entire characters to life with the sound he creates. So humbling and such a genius. That whole group was special, but I think the craziest part is how down to earth each is - how, as advanced as they are, they're all childlike in the joy they from their instruments and sharing music.

As a fiddle player I've been trying to find out all these thing for years, and I've bought Harmonica books. I really appreciate you dealing with Dorian Mode, and If you could help me out with Aeolian Mode and Harmonic minor that would be huge! To me this is "Real World" Music Theory, that would totally bog the mind of a Walter Piston. It is sort of a "Slide Rule" Theory of Music where you get the right answer without having to do all the Math. I can play most of this stuff on my fiddle, but if I actually knew the keys I was "Cross fiddling" to it would be so much easier to find the positions. Thanks, Jack

I started harp in 1974 as a young teen and after hearing/meeting Charlie McCoy went into Bluegrass bands in Fla ("Bluegrass Gospel Train", "Shady Grove Bluegrass") and then full-time at 20 in a SoCal in a Honk-Tonk Country band so, 2nd position was my main "go to" position. Later had a Swing Dance Band 10 years so, much Dorian on those heads and lines with horns. Whenever I get a country or bluegrass session usually go for 2nd position, but going to try this mixing it up. Thank you again for always being generous in your sharing your gift!

I've been playing the Power-chromatic chromatic harp for years, still finding new possibilities occasionally. Although using different instruments, you have always been my life-long inspiration! That is awesome sounding. Howard do you practice overblows with any specific exercises? I've been doing diminished scales in cross on a C harp lately. It'd be a dream to just be able to grab these notes like any other but sometimes i miss one or it doesn't pop out. I gave up on overblows and overdraws for a while but there's so much you can't play if you omit them. Like nice chromatic runs and stuff. Thanks for your videos.

Ive been trying to show players the value of 12th pos in country and soul music for years, but they seem too proud to re-learn, and take up Oblows. I believe that If you stop listening; you stop learning; you stop progressing as a musician
I bought a Marine Band Deluxe, I tweaked the reeds, it played overblows and overdraws perfectly for just 5 min. Once the moisture reached the wooden comb, air started to leak from the channels and it became awful. Hohners are garbage scrap rubbish
I don’t think I’ve found anyone who can get as much out of 1 harmonica as this man.

After 30 Years of playing bass and guitar, i now started playing the harmonica. I love it!
I was a bassist in 90s grunge /funk bands now I teach harmonica but gees I'm only about 10% as good as Howard

Thanks! As to practicing, I practice everything! It is easier to get over blows and overdraws if you adjust the clearances of your reeds.
