One of the schools near my hometown does a pre-prom "red carpet event" at the stadium so the kids can strut their stuff and parents can paparazzi their kids.
McKinley is me as a kid. I always got frustrated with myself, but I couldn’t express it so no one knew why I was crying & they just got annoyed. You had a very gentle approach Mel. Because my parents would’ve had a TONE with me and would’ve made me more mad.

This is so funny because I had this conversation with my 4 year old last night in the car in preparing him for Prek...telling him he can talk to the teacher and if he has a problem who can he go to and etc...and he told me the teacher and we role play at home appropriate behavior and how to sit and listen and ask for help but he told me yesterday when he gets older, he can't talk to his teacher lol and I asked him why and he said just because..I have no idea what that means in his 4 year old little mind. Prom is an EVENT in the Bahamas!! I’m talking it draws crowds of people from the public just to see the entrance. They literally have “best entrance” competitions for proms. I went to prom 3 times… loved it! Growing up I always wondered why prom wasn’t as celebrated or as big of a deal in the US as it was in the Bahamas. We plan for MONTHS for prom 😂

I loved this episode for real. The marriage discussion is so important. Because people leave out the idea that we are continually changing and evolving. You have to go into it realizing the person you say I do to will change. Just be sure the core values are aligned. That you can navigate those changes together. But also realize there could be drastic changes that may take a lot more work, or just not be negotiable. (I had a friend who’s husband decided he was an atheist and they had been very religious. Not saying some couples couldn’t work through it. Just an example) Lots to unpack here

My husband and I have been together since I was 14 and he was 17. I am now 45. Our 22 year old son said the same thing when he was Isaiah’s age. He refused to go to prom because he said it was a waste of time because that particular girl was his friend and was not his wife. He married his high school sweetheart in September 2022 and they are expecting their first baby November 2023! I LOVE young marriage! Grow together!
