I actually picked up a high yellow sun conure baby less than a week ago and this has helped me understand her a bunch! Her body language is very different from my indian ringneck and cockatiels.
Awesome video. Excellent summary of Sun Conure behaviour and body language. The happy thing with the wings is usually called “wing flipping” btw. Worth noting too that Sun Conures (like cockatoos and cockatiels) use “powder down” feathers (feather shafts filled with powder) to condition their plumage (instead of just relying on preen oil from the uropygial gland), which can make them less than ideal for people with allergies. Sun Conures are famous for being extremely affectionate and snuggly and every owner usually has at least one photo of their Sunnie peeking out from the neck of their hoodie - apparently because in the wild they prefer to roost _inside_ tree hollows instead of on branches (most parrots only use hollows for laying eggs etc but Sunnies sleep in them all year round. Unfortunately this makes them easy to catch which is why they’re under threat in the wild. every Sunnie I’ve known loves snuggling with their human, and juveniles love being under their shirt, pressed against the skin. I have COPD (a lung disease) and for years had to sleep on my back with a harness and a board to stop me rolling over - my first Sunnie used to sleep on my chest (do not try this under any circumstances unless you’re physically unable to move in your sleep because it’s not safe for the bird). My one year old, Felix, is just as snuggly but thankfully he now sleeps with his partner at night, but during the day he will come and bury himself under my shirt when I’m meditating, making little happy noises (beak grinding) and pressing his body against mine. It feels like an expression of unconditional love and trust. Being so affectionate and bonded to their humans they can get bad separation anxiety. My little guy screams whenever I go out and then waits in the kitchen window until I get home. His exuberance and joy at my return always makes it a pleasure to come home.
@@mimisbirdhouse Thank you for your kind words. I found out a lot of this stuff the way so many of us do, by living with these beautiful birds (and asking lots of questions). This video is awesome and will help a lot of people. Wishing all the very best to you and yours!
I can confirm everything you mentioned is 100% accurate :-). My Sun (Rio) does all these things, pretty much daily. - He does that cute head-bobbing thing when we say "Hi Rio". I feel it is his way of saying hello back. - Rio LOVES the shower; he goes in with me every morning. About once a week he also likes to kind of soak in a dish and flap his wings around for awhile. When he hovers around the sink I know that is what he wants. - And one thing I cannot STAND is the food throwing! Definitely a temper-tantrum, like you said. I take the food away in those cases. A couple other things I see that you didn't mention, and wondering if you see this as well. - Sometimes he will shake very quickly, almost like "shivering". I feel he is nervous or worried about something (usually has something to do with food LOL) - This is just a funny one, but when we are just laying down resting and I put my finger near his beak, he will sometimes press up against it and vibrate really fast. I call it "glitching" :-)
Rio sounds so cute 🥺 im not sure about the first one thats like shivering. Are you able to send me a video through instagram @babykiwiandmango and as for the second one I should have included that! They have that reflux still from babies when they want someone to feed them 😂
@@mimisbirdhouse If I am able to capture if I will take a video, it doesn't happen that often. It is sometimes tied to his temper tantrums ;) And yes! I forgot that vibrating was a baby reflex.

Skittles is the cutest flippin name ever oh my gosh!!!!!!! With sun conures theres a little trick, females tend to have a flatter head like Mango, Males have rounded heads Im seriously in love with the name skittles why didnt i think of that😩
When I open the cage door, and slowly put two fingers inside (I don’t try to touch the bird, since she is new) she comes up to my fingers, and sometimes she bites softly and licks my fingers, and other times, she’ll bite softly then gradually increase pressure. Does this mean she doesn’t like me, or is she trying to examine me?
She is trying to tell you to not bring your fingers close by. She is giving a gentle warning. Id recommend following the timestamp to gaining their trust on this video: ruclips.net/video/6GR_xFnD1do/видео.html
Id be a bit slow with my movements, it can either mean they are a little annoyed about something or marking their territory thats you, though id think more so the second
I got one question I got a second bird and he’s tamed but he’s so scared what should I do…But he comes up to my finger but he is so scared what should I do help please
Hi check, a bird first coming into a new home is going to be scared and they may not eat or drink the first day or two. Keep the environment quiet and calm, and speak softly. Let them know you are not a threat until they feel comfortable enough to let their guard down and eat. If they persist more than 2 days like this please see a vet
Baby sun conures bob their heads when they’re hungry. It’s innate so they all do it - although at 4 months s/he should be fully weaned and eating solid food, one problem is that baby parrots do not recognise food they don’t already know - as food. You might need to eat some yourself so they know they can eat it. That’s what I do. Recently had a guy saying his Sunnie was sick and “vibrating” so I got him to send me a video and there was nothing wrong, the little one was just doing what baby parrots do. Begging its parents to feed it. In the wild the parents will feed the babies from their crop (regurgitating partly digested food) whenever the babies - and juveniles - bob their heads. If there’s a decent pet store near you, try some hand rearing mix in a feeding spoon. You can improvise a biscuit and egg mix if you can’t get anything else. They will usually eat fresh apple, blackberries, raspberries, bean sprouts and these will generally provide enough hydration but in the worst case try a few drops of (very) diluted honey in water - say a quarter of a teaspoon of honey in a cup of lukewarm water and if necessary go to an avian vet. My most recent baby Sunnie wouldn’t eat anything unless he saw me eating it first, which is how I got him to start eating pellets.
I don't know why my sun conure is constantly biting me even when she's on me, she constantly tries to bite my ears, my fingers and it's painful. even if I walk away she'll still fly to me and continues to bite. I have no idea why she does that. I have her since she's a baby earlier she was okay but for the past few months she's constantly doing it and this makes me hard to spend time with her and I feel pity for her being in the cage for a long time... can you heelp please 😭
