This Christ figure is nothing like any other figure Caravaggio painted. I do not believe this is Caravaggio's Christ. Was it painted over.? Who is this fat faced man risen from the dead? Was he in such dire straights and fleeing that he was forced to paint someone else's choice of the Christ figure? .
I am ill informed about Caravaggio and his various paintings. I have seen the Baccus in gli Uffizi and the Caravaggio canvases in the church in Piazza del Popolo in Roma, This a revelation, much less theatrical and yet more moving than those paintings. Thank you for noting in your commentary that the disciples, as portrayed by Caravaggio are 'ordinary' men, poor and 'meek'. I have read that Caravaggio frequented less-savory parts of the cities and he chose his models from the people in these environments. True? Can you please share where / for whom this painting was originally intended? It can't be coincidence that the shadow of the disciple to the left creates a 'negative' halo behind the head of the resurrected Jesus.
These are not 'apostles '. One is Cleophas and the other is unamed in sacred text, supporting the ordinariness of the people.Caravaggio added a server who was not mentioned in Luke's gospel, and also indicates his emphasis on ordinary people. Great video, thanks

Hmm. I have complicated feelings about this painting. On the one hand, Caravaggio love forever. On the other hand, Jesus' facial structure, long curls, and stank face reminds me of the jerk ex I mentioned on the previous playlist. Hmph.
I never hear anyone say anything about the foreshortening on the disciple on the right’s right hand. His hand is way too big. The foreshortening on Christ’s right hand isn’t strong enough. The hand is too small! I think Caravaggio is probably not a slouch. An error like this may have been mean to suggest something about how the presence of divinity alters relationships or perspectives.
