- Maria Teresa Rafaela of Spain - Louis XV's Daughter In Law: Marie-Thérèse Antoinette Raphaëlle de Bourbon, Infanta of Spain and Dauphine of France was born on June 11, 1726 in the Royal Alcazar of Madrid (Spain) and died on July 22, 1746 at the Palace of Versailles. She was the daughter of Philip V, King of Spain, and Elisabeth Farnese.
Her marriage to the French Dauphin Louis de France marked the reconciliation between France and Spain, alongside that of Madame Première with Philippe, Duc De Parma, after the failure of the engagement of Louis XV and Mariana Victoria of Spain, elder sister of Marie-Thérèse and Philippe.

So sad she died at just twenty years old. Her daughter's portrait is so cute. Childbirth was treacherous back then. May their souls rest in peace together.
Thank you Ambreen !
What a beautiful video, I‘ve never heard of her before, it‘s so cool that you cover many lesser known people & bring them back to life 🎉
Thanks… next wednesday I’m doing a big one though. Mary, Queen of scots. Still working on it now… I watched yours on her too. Loved it !
@@TheKingsofFrance That‘s exciting, can’t wait!
You’re the only one covering these interesting people’s lives on RUclips, so thanks! ☺️
Glad you like my videos Amy !
What a beautiful love story. It's sad that Maria Rafaela and her daughter died so young. What a sweet couple they were but I like Maria Josepha of Saxony too. I like how Maria Rafaela, Maria Josepha and Louis Ferdinand were able to show examples of a good marriage in a court where moral values were hardly prioritised.
Also, I'm not sure if I have mentioned this before but the videos on this channel always come out the day after the announced date in my country. I think it's a matter of a difference in time zones. Just wanted to share that.
Yes, it’s the time zones. I always upload at 9 pm CET on Wednesday and Saturday (unless I make a mistake when planning them in which has occurred sometimes)…
@@TheKingsofFrance Ah I see. Here it comes out at 4 something in the morning Malaysian Standard Time on Thursdays and Sundays.
@@vishnukanagalingam1991 ah yes that explains… i hope it’s not inconvenient for you !
@@TheKingsofFrance Oh no not at all, I always look forward to every one of your videos. I usually watch them at 9 something in the morning. Every time one of your videos comes out, it becomes a highlight of my day.
So sad that Maria Rafaela and her daughter both died so young. I'm glad her marriage to Louis was happy for how short it was.
Thank you so much for watching !
It’s great that she got to have a happy marriage to Louis Ferdinand, thanks for another great video!
Thank you so much !!!
Sad for her if she hadn't died they would have been a match made in heaven. I have never heard of her. 😔 Sad that revolutionaries didn't even spared that little girl's heart she didn't do anything. Great video as always
Thank you ! Glad you liked it !
You have the best videos on French history thank you
Thank you so much ! I'm really glad you think that !
Ahh it’s always such a treat when you post! I always learn something. Great content. Love from Canada! 🇨🇦🍁
So happy you enjoy my content !!!
She was a dedicated wife. So sad that both she and her baby died 💔😔🍼
Thank you so much Christine !
Lovely vid but so tragic 😢
Thank you hun !
The main character of Rameau's Opera ballet "Platée", performed at the royal wedding festivities, is often associated with the dauphine because of her features.
Thank you for sharing this additional information with us.
I've read that there was some doubt about the propriety of choosing this opera for the wedding celebrations because there could be inferences drawn between the work's ill-favored heroine and the new Dauphine, whose appearance was not universally admired at the time. Incidentally, the opera (the world premiere of which was at those 1745 nuptial celebrations) is thoroughly charming (I've watched an upload of a Parisian staging on RUclips), and is regarded by some as Rameau's masterpiece.
And about my favorite Spanish queen Victoria Eujenia she was actually a niece of the Bulgarian Prince Alexander Batemberg Ena (as she was known to her family and to the common people) was a daughter of his brother Heinrich
Ooooh, next week will be interesting as well! Can't wait!
First I got Mary Queen of Scots coming up on Wednesday... Still working on that one now.
@@TheKingsofFrance Wow, the first of the two beheaded Guise/Lorraine Queens. I'll watch that with the most attention.
@@reniasva I hope it’ll be nice but I’m stepping on Tudor territory, others on youtube do it so much better lol
@@TheKingsofFrance You'll be Queen on that one, I'm sure. Your advantage is your perspective. You don't even have to copy others, you have your own approach. Go for it!
We'll see what happens lol. It is fun to talk about other courts though... I'm enjoying the whole 'branching out' thing a lot.
Great history video I enjoyed it. How are you doing and your cat? I'm doing well my cat Benjamin is good 😀
I'm glad to hear you and Benjamin are good. How old is he ? My Rani sends purrs !
@@TheKingsofFrance my cat Benjamin is six years old. How old is your cat?
@@michellebruce5092 Rani's approximately 8 years old, but we don't really know because she was rescued from a hoarding situation...
Can’t wait to watch next video! Very interesting! Marie-Therese was a beauty and a deeply loved mother and wife…
Next video is this evening, about Mary Stuart, Queen of Scots. Curious what you'll think about it !
@@TheKingsofFrance Thank you so much for answering! I have to say that…I don’t feel sympathy towards Queen Mary I of Scotland, taking into consideration her actions towards her people, her government and her neighbours…
It's so sad to hear that the heart of a little baby was sold :(
The hearts of many nobles were, as they were said to contain an ingredient sought after by painters…
I guess not strictly royal, but have you done a video yet on the Chevalier d'Éon? They seem like an interesting character.
I saw an anime (very loosely) based on their life ages ago. At the time I didn’t know they had been a real person until I came across a biography video of them.
Hadn’t considered it but it’s actually a great idea. I’ll add them to the list. Thank you !!!
Great idea indeed! He (they were a he, as unequivocally stated by doctors who examined his body after his death) was a very unusual and strong headed character with an incredible life, much to say about him and his adventures!
Lovely video but so tragic. 😔
Thank you Lily !
@@TheKingsofFrance Thank you my friend.
It’s sad that she died so young and that her daughter died too.
Thank you for watching and commenting Lynsey !
When will the video on Elisabeth Farnese be done?
i haven’t done any work on it yet. It’ll be a few months I’m afraid.
So sad that she died so young. I actually think she would've been an asset to the French court if she had lived a bit longer, as her lower key lifestyle might have attracted more positive attention than future royal women *cough*Marie Antoinette*cough*.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts Robert !
top ! thanx!
Thank you so much for watching and commenting again ! I really appreciate it !
Thank you for another intersting installment. But can you explain why the red hair was an issue?
I don’t really know, personally I think it’s gorgeous !
Were any of those people capable of just leaving a couple of teenagers alone????
Thanks for watching !
Petit Radel,is this a family name or an expression, such as John little/ Petit Jean? I ask because my mom's family sir name is Petit. Thanks
I Googled it and yes his sir name was Petit which is Little in English then Radel,or Little Radel.Interesting.
Thanks for sharing this info with us !
fun fact: they're marrying each other.
Thanks for watching kirby !
Louis Ferdinand had dreamy eyes
I never noticed... Thank you for watching and commenting !
When I hear a sad story like this about a young woman dieing way too soon, I am so greatfull for the progress we made through science and modern medicine. - And I am even more shocked to see people today not only abandoning science, but also fighting it. I guess ignorance and stupidity will never die out.
Thank you so much for watching and commenting, Lilly...
It's so depressing to learn that people died so young back then
Thank you so much for watching and commenting !
Not everyone
Childbirth was always a considerable danger at that time, before modern knowledge of infection and prevention thereof had developed. But it was not uncommon for women who survived their childbearing years to live to advanced ages.
awesome
Glad you like it !
Marie Terese Raphaelle was Phillippe de Parma's sister
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
❤️❤️❤️
She was amazing but I don't like the fact that she was an enemy of Pompadour
Thank you for watching again !!!
There was a masquerade as part of the wedding the king was dressed like a yew tree and Pompadour was dressed like the godess Diana that's how they met
Yes, I briefly talk about that in my video about De Pompadour ! Thank you for sharing this with us.
@@TheKingsofFrance I found it on Wikipedia
Poor princess!
