  • The complete "One Ocean" Shamu killer whale show One Ocean at SeaWorld San Diego.
    June 2017 SeaWorld San Diego has now replaced "One Ocean" with a new Orca show, Orca Encounter.
    Park officials said it’s more educational than theatrical when compared to the previous orca show, One Ocean.
    “The way they've trained them was very interesting,” said Linda Beckwith, who watched the show. One Ocean was discontinued earlier this year after a documentary film criticized the park’s treatment of captive orcas.

    My buddy is the grown up version of the guy in the dolphin segment, he is actually an Orca Trainer in SeaWorld Orlando. He Played the lead a lot of the time in Believe, the Former Shamu Show in SeaWorld Orlando! All the scenes for the dolphin segment in the beginning are filmed at Discovery Cove in Orlando. I saw the world premiere of this in Orlando...AMAZING, they brought in about 50 Childrens' Choirs who were all standing in the aisles singing during the finale it pretty incredible!

    At 7:56 when the whale spins around instead of waves just goes to show that they enjoy playing and interacting with their trainers. They like to have fun and so they become innovative and imaginative to create new "games" so to speak. Even though the whales spun around instead of waved, the trainers went along with it and actually encouraged the innovative behavior instead of punishing them or making a big deal about it.

    They already announced this pod of Orcas will be their last and are discontinuing the orca show. They can't release the ones they have that were born and raised in captivity into the wild, obviously.

    Why does everyone want to be a SeaWorld trainer when they could be a marine biologist? They could actually see the animals in the wild while protecting them. Holding such intelligent and social animals in captivity is just wrong.

    • @margolou2010
      @margolou2010 9 лет назад +7

      Exactly, and these people commenting, or some of them, have bought the lie. They are treated like circus animals, with no dignity at all. Thrown dead fish, when their very natures are to hunt live prey. How would these people feel, living in one room for their entire lives, being thrown food if and when they performed correctly, and oh yes - being torn from their families and loved ones (that includes parents and children).

      Lilly Love No need to thank me, but you're welcome. With stuff like this, it seems like people are just blindly following the popular opinion, which isn't always right. And what's right isn't always the popular opinion. Of course I'm quite likely going to get hate for saying what I just said, but it does hold some truth to it. I gotta be honest; I would much rather that wild orcas, whales and dolphins stay in the wild, but those born in captivity are better off in captivity.

    • @bridgitmfansite
      @bridgitmfansite 9 лет назад +1

      someone explain something to me. I just don't see how being thrown the same food they eat in their normal habitat is WRONG. It's not like they're feeding them poison or anything like that. Animals kill their prey before they feast on them so they're basically eating dead fish anyway which is no different than an empolyee feeding it to them. Do you guys even realize that animals are actually exposed to more danger in the oceans than in theme parks? Think about it. At theme parks , they are fed a proper diet and the food is actually cleaned before it is given to them. Where as out in the ocean, their food is exposed to things like PARASITES and other bacteria that can harm them. Not to mention the water that they live in is more polluted versus a theme park where their water is filtered daily. So again, I don't see where the fuss is.

    • @beetlepawss

      bridgitmfansite Well, a SeaWorld holding tank is like a bathtub compared to the ocean... Imagine that you're held in your room your whole life while just being fed and forced to do tricks. That would suck, wouldn't it?

      ThePlayground Dominators Watch The Cove, which deals with dolphins. Both whales and dolphins are exploited for profit, and they are blackmailed with the threat of not being fed unless they perform tricks. Plus, take a good look at the intro - at the free whales and dolphins. Look at the expanse of ocean at their disposal, then look at the unimaginative, unstimulating tanks that the captives have to swim in circles in. Many live their lives in solitary confinement, torn from their pods. Lolita has been languishing in Miami Seaquarium for 45 years in August. Place blame on those who deserve blame - the hunters and those who wish to exploit all cetaceans for their own profit.

    I know people keep saying Blackfish is one-sided, but you also have to realize that wasn't meant to be the case. The producer's of Blackfish tried MULTIPLE times to have SeaWorld interviewed. They refused the offer to redeem themselves every time. Obviously SeaWorld doesn't want to get beat down on camera because they know that some of the things they do is obviously cruel. It is SeaWorld who is one-sided. They care about the money more than the wellbeing of the animals in their care.

    Of course it's a huge privilege to see these awesome creatures at close range in and out of the water in a giant turquoise pool - in a way you could not experience in the ocean.But those days are over. And gone too are the sleek aqua-athletes of earlier days. Athletes whose amazing performance and interaction with these awesome Orca's wow'd the world and will never be forgotten.

I think even though these shows aren't great they still create a great love for an animal people would otherwise never know about. They help too and we shouldn't forget that, even though there is obviously downfalls I think the species publicity is probably worth it.

    • @PupGarment

      ***** so being in fresh clean salt water, having a balanced diet, and being cared for is wrong? Having these animals in captivity is helping the whales in the wild cause we are able to understand certain things. So we can watch a human pretty much salve itself over dancing and performing but its wrong to watch animals exercise and show majestic they can be? Doesn't make sense. Sorry but I know tons of people at Seaworld and they take very great care of the whales. Even the trainers parents and came out to say that the documentary was propaganda and pretty much a domestic terrorist. PETA only has one thing on its list without doing proper research. Im for both sides but people need to do their research before having an opinion. Plus tons of animals are stuck because of boats or nets or some other reasons and Seaworld stayed with the manatees for 72 hours until all of them were free here in Florida but they get no credit for that. People research!

      Dustin Harper Seeing as you appear so knowledgeable on the subject of orca captivity, perhaps you could answer these questions:
      1, Why are there numerous incidents of aggression from captive orcas towards trainers and other orcas?
      2, Why did SeaWorld never allow trainers in the water with Tilikum prior to Dawn's death?
      3, Why does Loro Parque not allow trainers in the water with their orcas that are on loan from SeaWorld?
      4, Why do captive orcas chew on concrete walls of their tank or metal gate?
      5, Why do captive orcas self-mutilate by banging their head against the side of their tank?
      6, Why do captive orcas regurgitate their food and play with it (and then eat it again)?
      7, Is it ok to keep a massive and highly intelligent marine mammal that can swim at speeds of up to 30mph and 'see' up to 10 miles away using their echolocation be put into a sterile concrete tank that is only a maximum of 10 times their body length?
      8, Does the transport of captive orcas from one park to another, or to another country (which is at times a necessity) cause suffering to the animal?
      9, How can marine parks guarantee captive orcas are placed into artificial social structures with compatible orcas?
      10, Why is it captive orcas have to rely on constant enrichment from humans in order to maintain their physical and mental health?

    I remember when I first saw free dolphins on a bay in Croatia. I live in Finland so we never had free dolphins where I lived, but we had this one Seaworld-type dolphin performance stadium. Before it closed, as a child I used to often go watch that performance. But seeing them in the wild was so mesmerizing I could barely say "Look.. Dolphins" to my friends so they could see them too. The joy you got out of seeing those happy dolphins can't even be compared to these poor orcas and dolphins locked away from freedom.

I fail to see how the intelligence or lack thereof fails to justify training them and keeping them not in the ocean. Seems to me, other than the smaller quarters, they have a pretty sweet setup. They get fed, they get medical care, they build relationships with their trainers...

Not saying some of the things aren't true, 40 years ago the captured whales, but a lot of the things in the documentary are out of context and plan wrong. Like in the beginning where they saw Tili ate Dawns arm. Wrong and they knew it. Whales live to be up to 90 years old in the wild, wrong. Its one-sided.

Do you know anything about the people who made that movie or where they got their facts from? Did you do any other research of seaworld and orcas and all that seaworld related stuff other than just watch blackfish? For all you know they couldve just pulled all their info out their ass and did no research at all and made up a bunch of crap to make seaworld sound as evil as they possibly could. Im not on anybodys side I just dont like how peoples minds can be so easily influenced just because of what blackfish says.

    I will continue to support SeaWorld. I stand with them. A majority of their orcas that were captured, weren't even captured by SeaWorld themselves. They haven't captured an orca for themselves for about 35 years, and they only helped in the rescue of Morgan because they believed she'd be set free. And, Morgan sadly cannot be released and rehabilitated properly due to her deafness. Now all you ignorant anti-caps will gang up on me, but I don't care. Because a majority of you have only watched the documentary and nothing else. I don't think you've thought over that CNN was a large part. Now, what does CNN do? Oh yeah, make things much more dramatic then they are. All you antis who believe that SeaWorld 'tortures' their whales and whatnot, have you ever seen them abuse their whales? Physically? I don't think so. Everyone needs to chill out and realize SeaWorld is not some big bad evil company. They love their whales, and not just for the money they make. In fact, my brother only likes SeaWorld for their roller coasters and sharks. Not everyone goes there for the whales. And, if we didn't have SeaWorld, who would have brought up that interest in cetaceans and made people want to protect them? Without SeaWorld, people may not even know about and be so struck in awe by these amazing creatures. Blackfish is completely one sided and I will not listen to anyone who sits outside SeaWorld and protests, yelling at people who enter the park, and ruining their days. Please, don't bother trying to correct me on what your opinion is. I refuse to deal with ignorant Blackfishers.

      Beautifully written!!!!!! I used to watch a marine mammals rescue show, and SeaWorld was on that show as an "organization" that rescues, rehabilitates, and sometimes releases, depending on the severity of the injury. They take AMAZING care of these precious mammals! If needed, they operate on the mammals to help them recover. I didn't even know about the term "Marine Mammals" until I went to SeaWorld!!!!! You can kind of tell that I LOVE animals!!! My favorite marine mammals are DOLPHINS!!!!!! I am a HUGE dog lover!!!! I REALLY care about the health and wellbeing of these PRECIOUS babies!!!!! Animals are REALLY awesome!!!!!!

      It's good to have different opinions, and I grant you, blackfish only gives his point of view. Seaworld has acknowledged that "some things were wrong" with the orcas in captivity. I agree with you that people should not be prevented from visiting a aquatic park, but we must understand that these things would not happen if the subject was not important.
      There are ignoramuses on both sides, the difference is that some get rich on the captivity of these wonderful animals.

    If you hate Seaworld, You HAVE to hate Disneyworld, why? Disney's Epcot park holds 2 dolphins, the dolphins have been captured from the wild is what I've heard, and everyday they are pacing in circles around their tank. When I went, I could hardly see them, but when I did they swam in endless circles near their tanks floor. That is worse than Seaworld, when I went to SW last, the Dolphins were jumping, playing with enrichment and interacting with people at the glass. When at Disney, the dolphins didn't even acknowledge the humans. What does this tell you? Seaworld has not captured a wild Killer whale in over 30 years, Epcot gets new Dolphins everytime the old ones die. Hm?

    I have no problem with MoneySavingVideos posting this. I am glad this video is here. However, having grown up in Southeast Alaska and seen whales many times following us while we were in fishing boats and cresting playfully in the waters, I am staunchly against sea mammals in captivity. Medium to small fish in gigantic aquariums is okay as long as they are well taken care of . I'm not sure about how turtles do. But mammals, I have a lot of problems with. If every person could see the magnificent and frightful spectacle of the whales in Alaskan waters, there would be no question this is cruel. Seeing them from a fishing boat is an overwhelming experience. They know you are there. There is a connection I cannot describe. You must experience looking into the eye of a whale while it crests out of the waters to know. You will have a lifetime connection to them after that. Even now, I live near the Orcas in Puget Sound. Sometimes you see them from the ferries. I hate that some are in captivity. How they catch them and hold them against their will. Sea World is not a good keeper of these creatures. The ocean is their home. This would be like a human living in a fifty square foot space. There are laws against that. And there should be laws against this too.

      They love the attention because it's the only mental stimulation they ever receive, plus they get food. I'd highly encourage you to do some research on the lives of orcas in the wild vs those in captivity.
      Imagine a border collie spending all its' life in a crate, and maybe once a day it gets to leave the crate and do a few tricks for treats, then back in the crate. It'll die around age three. That's essentially what's happening to these captive orcas, and there's a very good chance they are even more intelligent than border collies.

    • @joshmclendon3718
      @joshmclendon3718 10 лет назад

      Well Orca capture is illegal. Some morons did it in the past though.
      Most of these Orcas have never seen the ocean. I think that's not the worst thing. The ocean isn't a wonderland of opportunity or anything.
      Their tricks keep the money coming in that pays for their care, as well as the care and rehabilitation of hundreds of other species. Both in captivity and in the ocean.

    • @jmillz600
      @jmillz600 10 лет назад

      Josh McLendon I see ... Now they are just bred in captivity

    • @joshmclendon3718
      @joshmclendon3718 10 лет назад

      Blaze Fast Yeah which, by itself, would be a problem... Sure they could go 100% ethical and stop all breeding of animals in captivity. For the shear reason that they won't have to live their lives in captivity
      But then...the species would die out of the zoo (and possibly the world since most animals in zoos and marine parks are endangered, and the goal is to keep the species alive IN GENERAL)
      Then people would stop coming to Sea World and all the research,science, and ocean conservation they do would end as well.
      It's sad really since education by itself can't be funded. It needs the gimmicks and the tricks.
      So we come full circle that the problem with the whales in captivity is in fact a human problem....but it's not Sea world's. Sea world is on the whale's side.

    • @jmillz600
      @jmillz600 10 лет назад +2

      Josh McLendon You make good points, but I'm just specifically speaking on the Orca and no other animal. If these animals are actually endangered then I'm all for humans stepping in to give a helping hand, if not then there is no need for captive research, and storing them in a swimming pool is as equivalent as to storing a human in a kitchen sink. These dolphin can grow to be 30 feet long. If they are not an endangered species, I just say leave them alone. They are highly intelligent, loyal, and extremely social. Separating a mother from its young in captivity or the wild is like a human losing a child.

    • @molberries
      @molberries 10 лет назад +4

      Josh McLendon You think that if SeaWorld stopped showing Orca shows that the entire species would go extinct? That is not true at all and quite a large prediction. Look around at all the people who are anti captivity for these amazing animals. There is no need for tricks and gimmicks... all of us who want to stop this Orca captivity are against that and we still love Orcas.
      No need for fancy performances; we love the animals as they are. Do you really think that if SeaWorld closed their Orca shows, people in the world would suddenly forget what amazing creatures they are?
      There have been laws and regulations protecting orcas since 1972 in the wild that are very strict and keep most pods safe from danger. These laws will only get tighter as years go by and more people find a love for wild Orcas, not performing and captive Orcas.
      After Free Willy came out, 300,000 people called a number run by Earth Island just to know the fate of Free Willy after the filming was over. They wanted to help save Keiko and set him free. This was also not based on gimmicks and tricks… these people were trying to stop the gimmicks and tricks.
      Education itself can’t be funded?
      SeaWorld itself has very little to do with the actual knowledge we have of Orcas in the wild. Yes, some knowledge about physiology has come from captive animals but little if any of the information regarding behavior, population demographics, or social structure has come from them since it is widely known that these characteristics are greatly altered in captivity.
      Nowadays, the vast majority of information we have on these topics are coming from studies done in wild populations.
      Warner Brothers, Richard Donner and Lauren Shuler pulled together millions of dollars thanks to donations from people all over and schools that had fundraisers to get Keiko out of Mexico and into a seapen.
      At the end of all this work, Keiko ended up in Newport, Oregon in a rehabilitation center funded by the Free Willy Keiko Foundation. The foundation built a new $7.3 million rehab facility with the intention of returning Keiko to the North Atlantic. This rehab center was visited by numerous people not to see Keiko perform tricks and gimmicks but to see Keiko in general.
      Education itself can be funded and even if it couldn't be, SeaWorld is not educating the public on killer whales, they are educating them on what they want them to believe about their captive orcas.

    They have Dolphins in captivity. I've see quite a few people trip to Florida each year and won't go to SeaWorld because Blackfish told them too, but then still go to Disney.

    Please don't "dedicate" anything to people like Dawn Brancheau. If people like her truly loved the animals they worked with, they'd bother do a Google search on their history and lives. These "trainers" play stupid for their own selfish sense of purpose and meaning in life. And to those who think that these whales are fine with what's being done to them at these parks, know that you too could be locked up in a bathroom, starved, and then made to do tricks for peanuts.

    See, stuff like this makes me sick. Don't bother giving me stupid little comments like "shut up" or "don't watch then", it's not going to work. I have my reasons for watching this, just as anyone else has reasons of watching Miley twerk and then say they hate her. I have a voice, and I'm going to use it. If anyone has a problem with that, deal with it. This is really awful, they don't just take them in if they are injured. Oh no, they keep them in captivity so they can preform. Animals can't truly be happy like that, they are not meant to be put through this. I may not know how animals feel, but this is how I feel about it. Great job humanity, you just end up shortening the life spans of many orcas all because of your stupid selfish shows you put them through.

    i really want these animals to be freed but the thing is, these whales live in pools and are spoon fed. if they were to be released into the ocean not only would they find it difficult to survive but these animals wouldn't know how to defend themselves as most of these whales are in bred and haven't been exposed to the ocean so they would have very little chance of survival. it is just my opinion but these animals really are too beautiful and intelligent to be caged like this. the same goes for all other animals in captivity including pets.

    What most of you don't realize is that that animals are so dependent on humans that they will die within a week of being freed. Yes, some of these animals were captured, and brought to live in a tank. But most of them are born in captivity. Someone had to train a wolf to get a lot of you your dogs. This is how it works. The animals are not mis treated if they were they are powerful enough to do something about it. Until u know the whole story don't judge.

They r very smart, they r big, but like i said when they have been put from a wild life setting to a captive setting at that age, they will be rejected from a pod and eventually die. If they do get accepted then they will learn to survive. Killer whales are amazing creatures. Yes they need to be freed but, if they can not survive then whats the point in letting them go, there is more then one side then just letting them go. Im sure they r mistreated and it is wrong. I know that.

    I don't want to say it's funny how people make a big deal about how people in Japan still hunt Whales, but I mean honestly, just cause you "feel" that way doesn't make you innocent. Last time I checked, everybody else was pretty much eating everything else out there. So, I take it chickens, cows, etc. don't have feelings or are considered as something to think about every now and then. *cough* Black Rhinos *cough*. So, did I get anyone riled up? Who's gonna "correct" me? I'm not too sure why I felt the need to say this, but, I guess I'll ponder on it while eating my instant noodles. TTFN!

      1 - There is no humane way to kill a whale at sea. Chickens and cows can, and should, be killed humanly. (even though some aren't in some places in this world)
      2 - We can’t be certain that whale populations can survive large scale hunting along with the other daily threats they face. (Some whale populations can go extinct if Japan keeps on hunting Whales)

    Sadly the baby orca are taken away from it's mother and sold to another parks. This is the heartbreaking reality of this disgusting entertainment. Orcas live in pods and never leave their family unit. This business is heartbreaking and tragic. It should be illegal to keep these beautiful and intelligent animals in captivities. Depriving them of food so they will entertain us. If you want to be entertained by these beautiful animals, then take a boat out into the ocean and watch them in their natural environment, in family pods. In this video, you don't get to see them taking the baby away from its mother. The mother having a nervous breakdown and crying out for her baby. Or the baby crying for its mother. They keep all of that fun for after hours, when the park is closed. Please do not buy a ticket to these parks and encourage this industry to exist….. Have mercy and be a voice for these wonderful animals.

    Honestly, unless you're actually a trainer in Seaworld and see their methods first hand, you cannot form a well constructed opinion on this matter regarding their animals in captivity. "Black Fish" cannot be your only source of information because that research, like most, is very biased. Now, how much of it is biased, I cannot tell you because I fully admit that I am not well versed on the issue. I am completely neutral on this whole issue with Seaworld but I do believe people may just be looking for someone to target and what better place to target than some huge franchise like Seaworld, because that would just cause so much drama. Granted, unless these animals were either bred in captivity or rescued, they should not be placed or forced to be in captivity. But it has been scientifically proven that animals born in captivity or rescued cannot be released back into the wild because they cannot take care of themselves since they never learned how or simply forgot in captivity. Which is not a bad thing; if they had stayed in the wild being hurt then they would have died or if they were born in captivity, that is the only life they know or care to know. I just hope that anyone having mixed feelings about this theme park like I do remembers that you have to take every piece of information you revive with a grain of salt because things are always being manipulated to make someone look bad or cause controversy. You should also never bash someone for simply having an opinion that differs from your own. The worst thing to see in the comment section of these videos, besides people referring to "Black Fish" as a validation for their so-called "expertise", is when people tell others such offensive things just because they do not agree on the issue. If you want to solve any problem, you have to learn how to compromise and work as a team to achieve your goal. I hope people watching and commenting aren't just searching for these videos so they can bash people and corporations without getting the appropriate amount of unbiased information first.

    • @matthe3234
      @matthe3234 9 лет назад +12

      Hayden Patterson The thought of you or anyone being neutral about this argument is beyond me, the solid evidence to show that Orcas are not suited to Seaworld's environment is sat there right in front of you. It's shown in hundreds of RUclips videos, a simple google search and of course the documentary like blackfish. You're correct, it would be hard for a captive Orca to reintroduce himself into the wild. However, Dr Ingrid N Visser, an Orca biologist, had created a method of transporting the captive Orcas into a secluded Bay where they can practice hunting fish for themselves, practice their survival methods in general and will be carefully monitored to assess if they are suited for the wild yet or not. Once they are perfectly suitable for the wild, they will be re/introduced. There's nothing bias about being against Orca captivity, it only sounds biased because there's no justified or valid reason to show they belong in a bath tub.

      What you people don't seem to understand is that these animals were born in captivity. They have no experience in the wild. Therefore, releasing them would be condemning them to death. And I'm sure that when they died, you PETA activists would blame Seaworld for releasing them in the first place, calling it a bad decision on their part, and blaming them for the idea you came up with. Also, you must be against every single zoo in the world that is trying to rebuild the populations of these animals.

    • @saveourseas7
      @saveourseas7 9 лет назад +3

      I definitely understand that releasing animals that are born in captivity have an uphill battle being thrown into the wild. They should have never been captured to begin with and forced to be exploited in captivity for their short lived (orcas in the wild can live up to 100 yrs, NOTthose in captivity) They can definitely be freed into a sanctuary where they can actually swim while being taught how to hunt and hopefully be accepted into a pod one day. THIS ISN'T a PETA board, this is about advocating for these highly intelligent, social animals to right a SERIOUS wrong. All for your entertainment?

      And SeaWorld claims to be holding them to study them and for conservation purposes. Such lies, ALL for profit.

      Ornery Oh You are correct on the sanctuaries. And here's something that may surprise you: SeaWorld does in fact rehabilitate any dolphin or orca that has been deemed able to be returned to the wild. But here's the thing: timing is crucial. If you wait too long, then the orca will become too dependent on humans to fend for itself. Being as intelligent as they are makes it all the more difficult to wean them off of us. Lolita is a fine example of that.
      And then we have Morgan. They have actually discovered, after several tests, that she is hard of hearing. She was like that before they captured her. So she cannot be released. To do that would mean certain death. She would not be able to hear a threat coming, and at that point she'd be as good as dead.
      Oh, and then we have Winter. No way in heck can she be returned to the wild. Something happens to her prosthetic out there, and she's screwed.

      Do watch 'Blackfish' before going. You will be shocked at the violent illegal way Sea World captured these Orca, subject them to mental cruelty today, misinforms the public about Orca. And the shameless way Sea World drags the reputation of killed trainers through the mud.

    Everyone, I know that you think the orcas are held in "captivity". And yes, that is somewhat true. But, it is not like SeaWorld abuses the orcas. The orcas get fed, played with, and treated well. Yes, true, the orcas are not in the wild where the rather be, then preforming everyday, but again, they are treated well. It is not like SeaWorld abuses them, beats them, and starves them! Sea World is OBSESSED with the "protect the ocean thing" and I am too.

    Ok so here are my thoughts...we all know that SeaWorld is an extremely financially-successful company with a huge annual turnover. The new plans that they've recently announced with regards to building a larger, more 'stimulating' tank for the killer whales at the San Diego location by 2018 (which will be followed, they say, by the Orlando and San Antonio locations soon afterwards) gives us a glimpse into the kind of revenue they can afford to pay out - apparently this new project will run into the hundreds of millions to complete but they wouldn't specify exactly how much. So seeing as money is so clearly readily available, here's my suggestion to you SeaWorld...why not take all of your money that you are spending on these upcoming projects, sell all of your SeaWorld premises and add that money together with your project money and other profits and savings. Then, secure rental areas on various coastal areas throughout the USA which would enable you to set up a number of 'sea pen' enclosures. Now, I understand that once money is involved there is no way you would just stand by and happily watch the orcas, dolphins and other marine creatures that bring in so much revenue for you, swim off FREELY into the sunset. So why don't we come to a compromise? These sea pens would be large areas of the natural ocean. You could set up your aquarium/seating areas/restaurants/any other money making parts of your business around these sea pens. However, rather than degrading these beautiful, majestic creatures by training them to perform circus tricks for our amusement, why not make 'the shows' a truly educational experience and have your staff feed them and care for them (if required) at various times throughout the day, which the paying public can go and sit and watch them do. That way, these previously captive mammals are now able to swim more freely and more naturally than before, in the waters of THEIR oceans, but having been kept captive for God knows how many years they will still rely on you and your staff (who will still be kept in employment this way) for food and, if necessary, medical care. Make these sea pens as large as you can and allow these beautiful creatures the (albeit slightly limited) freedom and respect they deserve. And at the same time you can continue to tell the PAYING public that through your new and improved locations, you are taking into account what the experts say, what the critics say and most importantly what the facts spell out and now you have a better way of helping to raise awareness and educating our children on these creatures in THEIR natural habitat. Also, it might be helpful to note that this would make your planned future 'breeding programmes' a lot easier for all involved. No more violent wild orca captures when you finally realise that the inter-breeding of close family members that you have going on currently is only going to spell problems for the offspring in the future - solution: in a sea pen, any mating calls could be picked up by other orca pods who were passing relatively close by...why not allow supervised breeding in the sea pens? Surely it would be easier to gently guide new friends into the sea pen then out again after the deed has been done, rather than resort back to the violent and disturbing wild captures of more unfortunate killer whales when you decide you need some new blood to mix in with the existing DNA you already have. Oh and one last thing, from said business set up (above) - this means you would still be able to do your 'free beer' and overpriced hamburger meal deals in your on-site restaurants - now surely we're on to a winner?

      Because Sea Pens are not even close to ideal for killer whales bred/kept in captivity. Please read "Killing Keiko" for more information on this certain topic.

      MintyFreshYT Keiko died a year after being put into a natural sea pen. He lived a fine life, communicating with other Orca and humans. Hunting on his own for fish, and being able to swim with miles more space. "The first observations of Keiko in Norway document that he is in excellent physical condition. Keiko has been on his own for close to 60 days without food from humans. His lead veterinarian, and a variety of other orca scientists, come to the conclusion that Keiko has successfully fed himself in the wild, a major milestone in his journey to the wild."

      Actually, Keiko's life in a seapen had high quality behavioral management for the first 1.5 years or so, until pressure from activists to free him before he was ready lead to his entire behavior team, made up of experienced animal trainers, leaving because they did not want to participate in a misguided release. Funds dropped off and Keiko was basically thrown into the ocean without approval by the team who was working him for a year.

      "They survive longer in the wild" according to the associated press, orcas in the wild only live longer by 3 years, as for other animals, they live longer at SeaWorld. bigstory.ap.org/article/some-seaworld-mammals-survive-longer-captivity If chlorine was in the water, this would be one huge health risk to the animals, thus having the animal die faster than they do now. Why would SeaWorld even think about adding a chemical that harms their own mascot? The animals do have space, and they have a lot at SeaWorld. cking0298.wordpress.com/2014/07/20/getting-it-wrong/ Now, I'm not saying that the all the orcas at SeaWorld don't or do belong in the wild, but what I do know is they are sentenced to die in the wild, if released. Keiko only managed 12 months on his own, and died at a very young age, suffering from pneumonia, and kept wanting attention from humans. If this is what happened to Keiko, a wild caught, Image what would happen to a captive born. As for sea pens, those cause more harm than good in reality awesomeocean.com/2014/07/25/oceanic-sea-pens/

      J31RD No! These orcas have been in captivity for too long! They can't hunt for themselves, they can't communicate properly.
      They'll starve, is that what you want?
