RIP little chocolate. I'm positive the fault wasn't with anything you did, we can all see how much you love all your tanks and inhabitants. As you said it could be an underlying problem he had, and let's face it, fancy goldfish are more susceptible to genetic problems because of the constant breeding for the "perfect" shape/form. My deepest sympathy to you, it's not nice losing a pet, whether it's a cat, dog or fish. We love them all the same. On a lighter note, I'm loving the "toad" tank, looks beautiful. Keep up with the amazing work you do 👍

RIP Chocolate-you we’re very loved! My first fish were goldfish won at the town fair. Their names were Pumpkin and Beans. That was 45 years ago and I still think of them often!

I'm so sorry for the loss of your little scale baby. I just lost a little fur baby yesterday, my little old man rat, Loki. It never gets easier. We love them, and they love us back and will always be with us in spirit. Little Chocolate was given a short life, and I'm so glad it was with you, because you gave him an amazing one!

Love what you said at the end. You have pets, they eventually will die. It rips out our hearts but we go on. Eventually, you will get another when it feels right. Love all your tanks. God bless.

I’d love to see a tank with frogs in them.
If you could do that, then a frog that I’d recommend is the African Dwarf Frog.
Love the way the composition carries on through the tanks. They look awesome.

Rip Chocolate - it's gutting to loose an aqua baby 💙 you totally deserve to sit back and take in what you have created and enjoy it, you've worked hard to get it. Toad tank- sometimes happy "accidents" happen that are just meant to be. 👍

You have such amazing homes for your fish and it could have only been an underlying issue like you said, or maybe he swallowed something that obstructed his system. We never really know, but the next little guy or gal you pick to make the New Ranchu Crew will be the next luckiest goldfish out there! I love your videos, can't wait for the next one! As always MD, Keep up the good work, don't give up, i am sorry that you lost chocolate, it happens some times, i also 2 years ago lost my betta due to dropsy, i suspect that chocolate had drops ( which bloats up the liver), it nice to do a nice water change just to be on the safe side, also i am reaally looking forward to see the difference between the aqua soil and the dirt
Same thing happened with my bunny. He was happy running around and playful one day. Next morning I found him not breathing in his cage. RIP chocolate. He is swimming in a better place now.

Since i don’t have lots of money to spend on my tanks, I’ve always used dirt in my aquariums. I actually just used aqua soil for the first time in my new rimless aquarium.

Mate I am going to try some of the soil to go in my fancy gold fish tank to day I think sorry to here about chocolate never nice I lost my 80cm daisy this week as she had kidney Problems that ending up so bad I had to get a fish vet out to visit crazy money but I tried everything possible but that’s life like you say we got other fish to keep
And don’t worry about the haters I got a few on my channel

MD Fish Tanks deffo mate and we deffo do but there is some nasty people out there when you visit I will show you one of the trolls I have he is bad ass and just don’t stop had to block him it’s crazy lol 😂 I think like jog on mate some of the things we read as a RUclipsr is nuts if we do something wrong or something they don’t like just got to do what we enjoy I say

I think for Pancho's tank, try doing something similar to a false bottom to increase available footprint to the tank for her. Something like an eggcrate structure (lighting diffuser) similar to what is used in vivarium hobby.... Will look rad!
I did a 'false bottom' scape on my 'recent' fishtank, where I have a cave system underneath the ADA. My kuhlies, apistos, rams and cories love it, as it offers a great hiding place, and increases available footprint for all my bottom dwelling fish as they have 'levels' to hang out on.
Poor Chocolate, feel you pain, one of my Cardinals jumped out of it's temporary home at some point last night, found him dead on the kitchen bench😔🙏on a positive note looking forward to seeing how this experiment work out...."ready to rock n' roll"😂

Yh it is sad wen a fish passes away. But like what that person said, you can look to the future n add another. Keep doing what you love, and try not to get down to much, even tho chocolate was awesome, maybe do a video dedicated about him.

Again sorry about chocolate I had two similar Zig&Zag & lost Zig no apparent reason I put down to age. Love the two new tanks together. Could you have put sand on top of Aqua soil for more of a flow. Tony
You should look into keeping dart frogs if you do fancy a change from fish, building their vivariums is soo much fun and you're skill and creativity would make them an awesome home!

Needed some chocolate time out. A bit too close to home. I also had a fish similar to chocolate once and I adored him and he died. Later found out the water quality wasn't good(not saying that was the problem with your little guy). I'll definitely miss him. 😪❤
yeah checked the water quality twice with two different kits. Done water change and temperature check. All ok.

So sorry for your loss, Chocolate was an incredibly sweet fish and you were lucky to have him for the time that you did. You'll always have the videos you took featuring him and the other Ranchus to remember him by :)

what do you think of those little submerged corner filters that you are using? I have acouple of them, and I tend to feel that not only do they take up tank space, but they are less efficient than a HOB. have you thought of using a cannister filter for these smaller tanks? I have thought about using one canister filter for two nano tanks it would be pretty easy to put a y junction into the in and out lines from the canister

I'd be devastated if one of my goldfish died, although there has been a few times I thought it would happen but they always recover, hearty things. Looking forward to the turtle tank, I've wanted one since a I was little!

I know this is a fish tank channel, but since you mentioned Serpa Design, it would be great to see you do a terrarium. A collaboration with Tanner would be fun!
The increased stomach size I probably post mortem bloating, it's a result of the decomposition process producing gasses.
It suck loosing fish, take some time to reflect on it and when your ready there are many great fish out there waiting for a home.

Hello...sympathies re chocolate. Those bumbly fish prob have a lot of health vulnerabilities like big fat bulldogs. Love the idea of a.picture or two by the kids hanging near tank. ....on the Comparison Test..tropicsoil vs. Topsoil.....I thought you would use the same amount of each...Would topsoil have won if you had used the same amount as you used of Tropicsoil, beneath the sand? Looking forward to the results.
topsoil is way more nutrient dense than aqua soil. There will be more nutrients currently in the dirt tank for sure.

yeah i never rule out anything. Would need to do a TON of research though. I've kept turtles for 9 years so not a complete novice

When you start to set up the second nano tank, i say: ' Woww a wood frog stands over here!!!!!!
One thing I see in your comparison and worry about is the fact that the nano with the garden soil have lot less nutritive soil than the tank with tropical soil ? Do you think it change something for the growth?
that's actually not true. The garden soil is far more nutrient dense than the aqua soil. If any of that garden soil was in the water column, there would be algae in no time due to the amount of nutrients in soil.

So sorry about chocolate 😞💕 one of my goldfish past away a couple of months ago and I still have not gotten another one to "replace" him. Each individual fish becomes so special.
