Oh my goodness this was so helpful, I have childhood apraxia of speech and recently I’ve wanted to learn more about it as it is becoming a more prevalent issue and this video was amazing! I just have one question, can people with apraxia of speech find it more difficult to speak when in a high-stress situation? Thank you! ❤😊

Hi Frank, so glad you found this video helpful! Apraxia of speech is difficulty with motor planning--meaning the messages from the brain to the speech mechanism are inhibited. When we consider "high-stress situations," there is always a possibility that a communicator may have more challenges--even the most proficient communicator. So yes, this is possible, since people with apraxia may not feel as confident about the effectiveness of their communication attempts. Each person with apraxia presents differently and with different challenges and strengths. An SLP can help people navigate these moments and increase their communication confidence in all situations!

So, I don't know if this counts, but I had a speech delay, and now I have a Block Stutter so getting my words that is so difficult sometimes
So I know what I wanna say, but sometimes it just comes out the wrong way or it just doesn't come out
I don't know if it technically counts as apraxia of speech!
I also had a cleft palette as a young child and I also had hearing issues but I got a surgery and now I'm able to hear so much better!

Thank you for sharing, and we're so glad your hearing is improved! A speech therapist is needed to diagnose apraxia of speech, and you may want to consider talking with one about any difficulty you have with getting your words out. What you have to say matters, and speech therapy can help you speak with greater ease and confidence! :)

Is it true that apraxic people my say a word that he doesn't want to say? Like he would say that this is yellow when he wants to say it's red?
Is it true that an apraxic kid would point to the wrong object inspite of him wanting to point to another because he cannot control his muscles?
