If any form of bias is found, the judge is required by law to recuse themselves, in the hopes of finding a different unbiased judge. That is how the system has worked since the founding of America. The issue is a Supreme Court justice displaying support for an insurrection. It doesn't matter what ABC thinks. It matters what the rest of us think. Tradition. The constitution doesn't even say "lifetime appointments." It says "shall retain their offices under good behavior" which is potentially a lifetime appointment and has typically been so. But we also didn't, in the past, have so many scandals involving justices taking bribes or lying to congress during the job interview. It used to be that justices honored their responsibility and took it with great weight. Now they listen to hate radio and want to get in the mosh pit personally.
